NEW ZEALAND RECORD STORE DAY EXCLUSIVE!
As far as pop groups went in 1960s New Zealand, they didn’t get much better than Auckland 5 piece Larry’s Rebels.
Hard
working and electrifying live, they were adept at everything from
bluesy rave ups to poppy soft psych and most everything between.
The
group had seven hits during a 22 month period between 1967 and 1969,
with some of their well chosen cover versions bettering the originals
and their self penned songs remaining an integral part of New Zealand’s
pop culture.
The group nucleus of John Williams, Nooky Stott
and Terry Rouse started playing gigs while still at school. Larry Morris
joined in late 1964 and then Viv McCarthy in April 1965, making this
April 2015 the 50thanniversary of this most iconic line up of the group.
Largely compiled from long lost master tapes, A Study In
Colour highlights both the group’s rougher R 'n' B roots on Side One and
their later Pop Psych material on Side Two.
