Don Bryant - Don't Give Up On Love cd (Fat Possum)

$13.99

COMPACT DISC --

KILLER new Old School Soul album from Memphis' own Don Bryant! With Bo-Keys backing- this could blow your mind!

From Bob Mehr's piece in Memphis' Commercial Appeal

The final pool of material would include a trio of Bryant/Bomar co-writes (“Something About You”; “Don’t Give Up on Love”; “What Kind of Love”), a collaboration between Bomar and Memphis roots rocker John Paul Keith (“One Ain’t Enough”) and Bryant’s versions of “Jealously” (which he wrote for Peebles) and “I Got to Know” (originally done by the “5” Royales). He also worked up covers of the O.V. Wright classic “A Nickel and a Nail” and Louisiana roots-soul man Buddy Flett’s “First You Cry.”

Co-produced by Bomar and Watson, the album was recorded last fall at Bomar’s Electraphonic studio. The players include members of the Bo-Keys (bassist Bomar, guitarist Joe Restivo, horn player Marc Franklin), but also reunited Bryant with his old Hi Rhythm Section pals: organist Charles Hodges, keyboardist Archie “Hubbie” Turner and drummer Howard Grimes.

“Being with those guys, going over old times, old memories, it was like coming back home again,” says Bryant. “It was good to have that feeling again. We tried to recreate what we had going on back then — and I think we did.”
