Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes - Paix lp (Phillips,

Epic, legendary French experimental prog rock, in the league of Can/ Faust/ Ash Ra etc... or kinda like a tripped out French Os Mutantes!

Four long, wailing songs... fourth album, from 1972,

Wikipedia says Catherine Ribeiro (alongside Mama Bea Tekielski and Brigitte Fontaine) is possibly the most unusual voice in French rock. Often referred as the French Nico, her Portuguese origins are responsible of the unique character of her voice.

Julian Cope says

...Some time later, it will dissipate into the ether to allow the recurring bass line to gain in strength and corral everything to pour back into the opening theme to unite with Ribeiro, who operatically and wordlessly wails a series of “OOOOOOOHH” and “AAAAAAHHH”s with the colouration of dashed hopes pulsing in those hearts long dulled but newly reawakened, breaking the waves of the layered keyboards that surround and propel her lamentations. A crescendo takes the track down to an exhaustive conclusion.

Side two is...one song -- but only if you could call a multi-tiered, quarter of an hour supernatural odyssey that swirls in the mystery zone between life and death a ‘song.’
