I drank some Ballantine this summer in NYC.. it was less than good.
Louisiana:
Best Louisiana beer I've had in a while comes from Tin Roof brewery in Baton Rouge. Abita is shite except for the strong stuff they sell in 22 oz bottles (S.O.S., Abbey Ale, and the new Vanilla Doubledog stout). NOLA Brewery stuff is ok, the more exotic flavors (Hurricane Saison, Hopitoulas) are pretty good, the NOLA Blonde is not.
Dixie beer is actually brewed at the Huber brewing company in Wisconsin, which is well known for producing cheap, nasty beer. Avoid. Also avoid anything brewed in Covington (Heiner Brau, Pontchartrain Pilsner, Covington Strawberry, et. al), shit is disgusting.
In conclusion, we're not very good at making beer down here.
LA 31 beer is actually made in Mississippi at the Lazy Magnolia Brewery. It's good and some of the other Lazy Magnolia brews are good too. I think that's the only brewery in Mississippi.
