There is a big battle going on over breakfast here, Macca's & Jacks are both pushing hard. I hate having to wait til 10.30am to get my cheesburgers, though. And that Macca's Flash website is terrible.

And I'm still waiting for Pizza Hut & KFC to introduce breakfast items. Oh yeah.

What's in an Aussie Burger? Koala?
Posted: Jan 8, 2007 11:25 pm | Edited by: T J Honeysuckle

Think it has beetroot in it.
We like that good purple stuff here, a real Aussie burger should have egg, bacon, pineapple, onion, beetroot, lettuce, tomato & ketchup on it. On a toasted bun.

Koalas are a bit stringy and unpleasant, unlike platypus, which has a light gamey flavour if eaten in season.

Yeah, from the HJ site:
"Beef Patty (25%) (100% Beef), Hamburger Bun (Wheat Flour, Water, Sugar, Bakers Yeast, Canola Oil, Gluten, Salt, Sesame Seeds, Soy Flour, Emulsifiers (481, 471), Preservative (282), Vitamin (Thiamin)), Tomato, Egg, Beetroot (Beetroot (60%), Water, Sugar, Acid (260), Salt), Lettuce, Bacon (Pork Meat, Salt, Sugar, Mineral Salts (451), Antioxidant (316), Sodium Nitrite (250)), Ketchup (Concentrated Tomatoes, Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, Spice Extracts), Onion, Cheese (Milk, Cream, Milk Solids Non-Fat, Food Acid (270, 331), Salt, Mineral Salt (339), Colour (160b), Preservative (200), Spice, Starter Culture, Enzymes)."

Yum, enzymes.

The McD version is called the McOz. "It's Australia on a bun!"
I mean, really, who thinks this shit up?
Pretty much the same crappy ingredients.

beetroot?
Posted: Jan 9, 2007 10:08 am

Yes, beetroot- the roots of the beet. Round purple things that grow in the ground, you peel 'em slice 'em and kind of pickle 'em in a sweet vinegar stuff.
You can get 4 kilogram cans of them in any supermarket here.

I've been through this conversation with Grrtch once already.

psycho burger king customer!!!

beetroot = beet, essentially. we don't add the root part on the end of the word. we just call it beets. *shrugs* i don't particularly like them.
Posted: Jan 9, 2007 11:55 am

What do you call the leafy part then?
Posted: Jan 9, 2007 4:25 pm

Garbage
Posted: Jan 9, 2007 4:43 pm

that actually sounds pretty good except for the egg part. beets and bacon go great together!

That must only be at "participating restaurants". However, all Jack in the Box locations will serve "regular food" 24/7, which is awesome. It is my god-given right to eat shakes, onion rings, and their weird-but-delicious tacos at 8am if I so choose.

Dude, there are religions based on Jack In The Box tacos. I remember when Burger King tried to duplicate them a couple of years ago (same 2 for 99 cents deal and everything) and failed miserably.

"Miserably" doesn't even begin to describe how wrong BK got their tacos. Jack's tacos are untouchably great. I have no idea what kind of meat that is in there and I don't really care, but it's awesome.

The last time I had a Jack in the Box taco I was 4 years old. My mom took me there, we both had tacos and both got violently ill.

More for me!

I can't believe Burger King would allow tacos into his kingdom. My friend had a t-shirt that had the old school Burger King logo on it, but instead of
Burger
King

it said

Porno
King

Cat food is delicious
Not true. As a child, I really wanted to taste cat food, because it looked so appetizing on TV. I saved my allowance and bought an entire box of Tender Vittles. I took one bite and spit it out. I cried because I blew my entire allowance on cat food that I would never eat. Maybe I should have bought 9 Lives.

And Aussie Brekky!!!
A Japanese woman, who was the 5678s interpreter on their first tour here, once said to me- "So, an Aussie journo could have a cuppa, a bicky, a sarnie and a stubby for brekky, in the arvo, wearing a cossie, right?
"Absolutely" I said.

We love our abbreviations.

I never ate any cat food, though some of it DOES smell like it'd be mighty delicious. I DID eat a Milk Bone once, and it was fucking HORRID.

I remember back in the 70's they had a dog food treat called "Doggy Donuts". I was like 4 at the time and one of my sisters hoodwinked me into eating one...
