We have an extended Family Reunion every year at Christmas. About 75 people, everyone brings a dish. My stomach acts weird for days afterwards. There are many, many things on the table that you don't know what they are, but you eat them anyway. A sampling includes hash brown casserole, many different varieties of green bean casseroles, lasagna, lots of ham, KFC (from the lazy bastards), home-made deviled ham, chicken and asparagus casserole, and the famous Poppyseed Chicken...Ritz Crackers, chicken, poppyseeds, and cream of chicken soup...layered.

I make old southern lady 7 Layer Salad:

2 things of bagged lettuce (convienent!)
5 stalks of celery, chopped
1 red onion, chopped
(some people do a layer of green pepper, but I don't like it)
2 small cans of those little tiny english peas
lots of mayonnaise spread all over that mess (Hellman's of Kraft)
lots of shredded cheddar on top of the mayo
1 pound of cooked bacon, chopped (coup de grace!)

Layer in deep lasagna pan and refrigerate overnight.

No cleanup of pan. It's always practically licked clean.

I forgot to list that Cousin Linda was making "grill cheese" in an electric skillet this last year. You know...like instant omelettes in fancy brunch places.

My cousin Nita MADE THOSE UP! Or maybe saw them in Good Housekeeping. Either way, she is brilliant.

I think we cook just alike. I always leave out the "behl peppah".

Unless, it is red and cooked like mad.

Oh shit. Busted...
Kind of. We're the poor BBQ and fillin station branch.

I think that's pretty cool, really. Even if he was responsible for noise laws in Memphis.

Anyway, back on topic...
We're usually responsible for the baked beans n' bacon and the French Silk Pie (bought at perkins, 'cause we get the discount) at any given potluck.
