It's called The New Food Lover's Companion- Comprehensive Definitions of Nearly 6,000 Food, Drink, and Culinary Terms. Almost everything is in there. I couldn't find "salchipapas (Spanish term for french fries with hotdog pices mixed in)." Anyway, it's worth having if you wanna get a good, fun to read kitchen book.

A friend of mine got an early edition of the Joy of Cooking. It even has instructions for skinning a squirrel.

I have the first edition of Betty Crooker's cookbook. It has good basic recipes (white sauce, cheese sauce, cookies, pies) but some of the ingredients I would never use - lard, shortening, beef stock....

Anyone got the book put out by the people who do America's Test Kitchen?
