There's tons of them. What's yours?

My vote goes to The Swamp Rats. One of the most psychotic ever!

the one on girls in the garage vol. one with kim fowley ad libbing spoken word nonsense over session musicians playing louie louie for two and a half minutes, i think its called "The Worse Record Ever Made"

totally ridiculous

I love that song! I didn't know that was Kim Fowley though. Good to know! Girls in the Garage is so good! I love that series.

Pebbles Presents: Highs in the Mid Sixties- "Vol. 7, The Northwest" has a band called H.B. & The Checkmates who turned "Louie, Louie" into a girl in order to try and be original and came up with "Louise, Louise". I don't think it's a very good song though if emmory serves. No soul!

Bob Hocko And The Swamp Rats

I've never heard it of course, but i'd have to say the version that an estimated 500-1000 Native TacomaWashingtonians rocked at Cheney Stadium(?) has gotta be the best! You can't go wrong with THAT many guitars (i mean, maybe 3 or 4,but 1000? At that point it doesn't matter what the hell's going on!)!

Mark Markham and the Jesters- Marlboro Country(basically louie louie with the lyrics changed).
Posted: Sep 19, 2005 7:35 pm

I have that on the Eva FLorida garage comp but don't rememeber it being very good. I'll have to listen again tonght to make sure your not full of it.

How bout the WORST version? Probably the worst I've heard would have to be the Kids' version on their 3rd LP where they add steel drums and try to give it a "Carribean" flavor.
Posted: Sep 19, 2005 9:59 pm

the worst i've heard is the beach boys version. so candy-assed it's annoying.

yeah dude read the liner notes, it makes it even funnier

the worst version? just about every version on that rhino comp "the best of louie louie". a misnomer if there ever was one

I'm going to have to go with the any version Uncle Jessie did in one of the early Full House episodes. Same goes for "Wild Thing". Fabtastic.

Toots and the Maytals give the song a pocomania gospel reggae workout back in the 70s on some lp whose title I forgot.
Posted: Sep 20, 2005 4:30 pm

kingsmen
finally!
Posted: Sep 20, 2005 5:37 pm

Yea I agree it's the Kingsmen for me. All the rest is just so much fluff.
Posted: Sep 20, 2005 7:46 pm

That would be Funky Kingston by Toots and the Maytals. And yes, it rips.

I like the old stooges version, but it's not the best,It's just MY favorite, and I'm sure that's all that matters!

You people have terrible taste in rock-n-roll,how do you live with yourselves?
Posted: Sep 24, 2005 9:12 pm

The fuckin' Sonics all the way. The Wailers version is a close second for me. A lot of teen Garage versions are cute or gutsy, but Washingtonians always did it best. Now if there were a Wilson Pickett live version or something...

I'll go with The Outta Place.
Posted: Sep 25, 2005 8:51 pm

The Kingsmen again? Who doesn't notice that the Kingsmen's Louie is pretty damned "white pickett fence"? Not bad, but a little too "radio friendly" if you know what I mean. That's all.
