former fan. Huge influence on anybody on this board who is 23-27. If you don't think so, you're a fucking liar.......

IVE BEEN LOCKED INSIDE YOUR HEARTSHAPED BOX FOR WEEKS NURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRneeeee.

Hey man, they were a fuck of alot cooler than Green Day.

cum 420 cum all
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 9:49 pm

another former fan. None of their shit holds up at all though.
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 9:53 pm

have to give them credit for distracting me from metal for a while. the records sound really dated now, but i still like some of those Incesticide songs. In retrospect, i think Mudhoney was the better band from that scene.
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 10:04 pm

I still really like Mudhoney a whole lot!
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 10:13 pm

I can vouch for Superfuzz BigMuff..that's about it.
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 10:33 pm

Mudhoney self-titled and Every Good Boy ... have some good songs too. Downhill from there.

Nirvana was cool for turning people on to other good shit like the Wipers and being outspoken about their influences in mainstream media. I thought they had some good pop songs.
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 10:59 pm

I like Nirvana. They're a band I never want to listen to, and forget I like them at all until I hear them and realize they had some great fuckin' songs. And yes, they're about a bajillion times cooler than Green Day, or any other band that was on MTV at the time. Overrated? Of course by some people, but who gives a shit, so is every other band that has ever existed.

Nirvana pretty much aped anything they did that could stil be considered cool from Mudhoney, right down to Mark Arm's haircut. The difference is, Cobain took himself really seriously, so they didn't have the good sense of humor.....or good taste, of Mudhoney. The better, weirder Nirvana stuff, like Incesticide, still holds up as good garage/noise stuff. Their Wipers covers were pretty good, too.

One thing people probably forget about (because it seems like they never re-air it) is the first time Nirvana played on SNL. They were obviously completely fucked up, and played the worst version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" ever made. Worse than any 14 year old junior high band who would have been covering it at the time. Then they just broke all their shit. It was almost embarrassing, and I remember my parents being like, "what the fuck is this?". They score some punk points in my book for that.

Great band...i too hardly ever listen to them but they are by far the best mainstream rock and roll band of the last 20 years. the best thing they ever did, in my opinion, is the split 7" with jesus lizard. that song is incredible. way better than green day, not as good as mudhoney.
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 11:11 pm

Yeah, "Oh, The Guilt" with lighter flicks. I think "Bleach" is still awesome, it's got a weird vibe. Stoned out lumberjack backwoods serial killer punk. 'Incesticide' definitely has some of their best stuff, like "Mexican Seafood" or whatever. That off-kilter shit, like that ridicuolous Primus/Gang of Four song.
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 11:21 pm

I loved Negative Creep.

Until Velvet Revolver did it.

Ruined.
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 11:24 pm

Oh God, I pray I nvever hear that. Just reading about it is making me depressed. I gotta play tonight, man!
Posted: Aug 28, 2005 11:32 pm

B side to last year's "summer-feel-good" single, Slither.

Yes. Never hear it, if you can help it. There's a jam solo at the end.
Posted: Aug 29, 2005 12:21 am

I still throw on Bleach every so often. Nevermind has aged poorly. In Utero has a few good songs.
Posted: Aug 29, 2005 12:32 am

listened to "Sub Pop Sessions" Tupelo Recording Company LP the other day, it's great i luv that song "spank thru".
Posted: Aug 29, 2005 12:35 am

I think "In Utero" is the best Nirvana album. Mudhoney is good, I don't think they sound like Nirvana.
Posted: Aug 29, 2005 1:32 am

That whole time period was really weird. You had "In Utero", then he killed himself, and then everybody sort of gravitated towards his wife's record, and Hole were huge for awhile. Then The Foo Fighters came out around then, and were/continue to be huge. It's kinda creepy how that shit all streamed out.....almost as if......it was a huge marketing scam, and he's not really dead. DUN DUN DUNNN!

The Melvins are the greatest band to ever emerge from the Pacific Northwest.
Posted: Aug 29, 2005 2:06 am

The Pearl Jams!

Are you quoting the prank call on the end of Cheater Slicks Don't Like You? That's pretty friggin' funny.

Posted: Aug 29, 2005 3:20 am

just got the old Nirvana/Fluid split on Subpop. Fuckin' awesome! I've loved this band since '91.
Posted: Aug 29, 2005 4:45 am

I love Nirvana, alot of people don't like Nirvana because it's cool not to.
I don't care how over played Nevermind is, you sit down & write an album with that many catchy tunes, post them here on the Goner Board when you do!
Posted: Aug 29, 2005 6:16 am

Some good songs, but I'd rather listen to the Foo Fighters.
Posted: Aug 29, 2005 2:48 pm

Your screen name is utterly offensive to women, by the way...! I don't think that happens too much outside of porn movies.

Yes I am a fan of Nirvana.
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 8:28 am

None of their shit holds up at all though
remember when "teen mood elevators" was on every 100.000 watt radio station in top markets, now the metal stations throw a Nirvana track into the mix daily, the band's songs are almost "Stairway to Heavan" in caliber
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 1:42 pm

"Boooredom, booor-do-ee-um ... be-dum, be-dum ..."

Fucking wank ... Cobain, whatta loser! Not a Real Loser, even! Nirvana? C'mon, gimmie a break ...
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 3:15 pm

HATED them during their heyday. In tenth grade I thought Slanted & Enchanted (and those EP's collected on Westing...) was the best, most acute statement of purpose(lessness) in that whole post-punk/post-rock/indie milieu - and that Cobain and his ilk were a bunch of whiny, posturing bitches.

Looking back, they did write some hooky tunes. Certainly at their best when not taking themselves too seriously.

another former fan. None of their shit holds up at all though
I still really like Mudhoney a whole lot!
that about says it

MELVINS!!!!!

Meh. Seattle. Retread 70s Rock in the 80s and 90s. Grew up in the 70s,so i hate almost all of that shit.

More Statics,please.

Hey man, they were a fuck of alot cooler than Green Day
fuck n a right.

some one needs to slap Billy Joe in his gothic face. what a queerbait.
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 9:39 pm

Hey Joe Pestilence - Zak Static will be in Green Bay this weekend (he's flying in for the Packer game, for some reason), and he's doing a one-time "Statics reunion set," which is basically him, Rev Norb and Erik Lee doing Statics songs. Probably gonna be retarded, but I'll still take it over 99% of the shit on Sub Poop!
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 9:59 pm

I liked them a lot at the time, especially "Bleach." I still think they're okay. They don't hold up as well as Mudhoney or Green River, but next to Pearl Jam or Soundgarden, Nirvana sounds pretty good.
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 10:14 pm

Sub Pop Rock City....
Posted: Nov 16, 2005 1:20 am

temple of the dog anyone..? i dont mind stealin bread.
Posted: Nov 16, 2005 5:15 am

Zak Static will be in Green Bay
and Donny will be playing in the Kave Ins on tanksgiving night here in Seattle at the Funhouse.

If we can only get Rat City Mike to come out for the turkey day show.

Oh yeah nirvana's great. i love when everything's at peace. let's all get high and chill.
Posted: Nov 16, 2005 7:10 pm

Sure, yea, but I don't like the Foo Fighters...
Posted: Nov 16, 2005 9:02 pm

The "Sliver" E.P. is every bit as good as the Replacements. I saw them as an opening act when I was but a wee tot in '90 for five bucks and their live act was intense.
Posted: Nov 16, 2005 10:49 pm

Umm no.

Yer wrong.
Posted: Nov 17, 2005 12:07 am

mudhoney was better and claw hammer is the shit they taught me about beef heartt and devo light years before they "cool "
Posted: Nov 17, 2005 12:20 am

i liked nirvana back in the day when i was 14-16 years old, but now i can barely stomach a lot of it. their more off-kilter stuff i like, and i like the acoustic stuff as well. but i could do without most stuff on nevermind and in utero. *shrugs*
Posted: Nov 17, 2005 9:52 am

I think the lamest thing they ever did was that "Unplugged" shit, which pretty much put them in the easy listening department and made them safer than they already were. Unfortunately, MTV milked that and aired it 45 times a day after Cobain killed himself. So now they are kinda "known" for it.

I still stand by the earlier, pink haired, smashed guitars SNL and MTV "Nevermind"-era live shit as being pretty entertaining, but you almost never see it. I suppouse nobody wants to remember them as not being able to play.....
Posted: Nov 17, 2005 10:50 am

hey whatevers..Mudhoney still plays the same shit hole clubs they did back when Sub Poop took them for a ride to Reprise.

back in that time, I was screwin' with a fat girl in the basement of a 4 plex and above her bedroom lived a chick who worked at sub poop. Whenever they partied all they played was grunge and not only did that crap filter through the floorboads to us, they always spilled beer and it dripped down on us as well.

a distinctive distasted for grunge that lasts to this day emerged on those rainey beer nights.

nirvana sucks. keep it real. keep livin' under them bridges and gettin' high off free samples. yeah man. i wanna suck my brother's dick and smile.
Posted: Nov 17, 2005 2:34 pm

I've heard the wipers were one of kurt cobain's biggest influences, which I think shines through on a lot of nirvana's earlier stuff. That's pretty cool. Wipers are one of my fav bands ever. So I guess I am "a fan" of Nirvana, also because I am young and heard nirvana way before wipers.
Posted: Nov 17, 2005 9:33 pm

Same here. I got "Is This Real" when I was 15 because Kurt namedropped them.

The footage from Nirvana on Headbanger's Ball is funny whne Krist throws the bass in the air and it hits him in the head.
Posted: Nov 17, 2005 9:42 pm

Krist throws the bass in the air and it hits him in the head.

that was on the mtv music awards, headbangers ball is when Kurt wore the big ugly yellow dress
Posted: Nov 18, 2005 5:40 am

the big ugly yellow dress
I'll have to ask Khan if Curt is an influence
or did his sisters get him into cross dressing

I liked a lot of the Sub Pop stuff back in the day, but always thought that Nirvana were one of the weaker of their heavy hitters. In the tier below Mudhoney, Tad, The Fluid and even Soundgarden, but in the tier above the likes of Cat Butt, Swallow, etc. Their cover of "Love Buzz" and the aforementioned "Negative Creep" were the only standouts for me from their pre-Nevermind material.
Posted: Dec 10, 2015 10:40 pm

Incesticide, Bleach, and most of In Utero are great albums, and I will take them over 99.99% of the garage/punk/garagepunk shit that was popular when this thread was made (and since) any day.

Nevermind is "good" but even if all of the songs weren't played out it'd still be my least favorite just because the production is way too polished for Nirvana.

I don't hate nirvana, but I do hate listening to them.

Montage of Heck is worth watching.
Posted: Dec 28, 2015 11:16 am

I was stoned as fuck the other night thinking about how Oblivians are the opposite of Nirvana. It's a damn shame that the kids heard the wrong band.
Posted: Dec 29, 2015 2:18 pm

much prefer Weird Al.
