Goner Message Board / ???? / They Dont Wanna Sell Horizontal Action at Reckless Records Anymore.
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 5:15 am

Why?

Because there's (gasp) graphic depictions of sex in it, and apparently, this is the first time they've ever noticed it in the 7 years of selling it.

Wait: What's that?

Are you trying to tell me they will now, logically, ban all pornygraphic referency-ez in EVERY SINGLE THING THEY SELL, because, natch, any casual perusal of a large chunk of what they own (with the exception of some of their G rated movies and a few of their classical music offerings) has graphic references to sex? Like 3-6 Mafia, to name just one?

No, that's different.

Why?

Umm...Because, in our narrow little hipster worlds, that's ironic and kitschy, as opposed to old fashioned satire. Because we like selling hiphop to ironic Art Instytute kids throwing ironic booty rap parties. Because, if we stopped selling everything potentially "offensive," we'd go out of business in about five minutes.

Horizontal Action offends all women. Just ask a woman. Any woman. Any woman can speak for all women. Even the women who write reviews for Horizontal Action. Even women with senses of humor.

Hmm...sounds like censorship to me, so when you come to Chicago for the Blackout, don't give your cash to these Tipper Gore grrls.

Pick up "Time Out Chicago," proud members of the jerking class, and read all about it.

no, no, no

it's 'cos you feature such things as

i am ruining this community single handedly

Fuck Reckless. Those stupid assholes take weeks to get stuff in by widely distributed punk/r'n'r/garage labels. I want my shit right now, not a month from now. Then they treat you like common streetshit when you order your selection from them because they were too stupid or stubborn or hellbent on big buxxx to do it themselves. I want them dead.

i consider myself a feminist and i love horizontal action!

Looks like you guys will no longer get to jerk off at the used/new arrivals bin anymore. bummer
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 3:01 pm

I'm still going to hide behind the movie section and jerk off looking at that one employee's big ass. But I won't stand for this banning baloney!
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 3:25 pm

As a boy, I had always thought censors were uptight old preacher prudes who shook their long old bony fingers at dancing to Kenny Loggins. Boy, are my eyes opened to the wicked ways of the world.

That Time Out Chicago article is pretty hilarious in a sad way with its double-standards and hypocrisy.

Although she says personal taste did not affect the store's decision, Brode readily admits she's offended by recent editions. "It was pretty antiwomen. Mixing anti-women sentiments with music is pretty offensive to me, because I work in the music industry."

YOU WORK IN A RECORD STORE!!!!
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 4:02 pm

now that i re-read her statement, if she worked at, say, Quizno's I guess mixing anti-woman sentiments with music WOULDN'T be offensive.
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 4:10 pm

Thanks April and Black Guy.

best quote by "reckless" Taylor Brode, re: the 'joke' that is Horizontal Action and how it's interpreted:

"Certainly anyone under 18 would NOT get the joke- and it's not funny. I'm 26 and I didn't get it- and I grew up in Chicago in the punk scene."

yes, that was actually said 'out loud' and without hesitation. Pretty "reckless" eh?

and doesn't that name kinda sound like a frustrated porn starlet, anyway? Taylor Brode?

Mixing anti-women sentiments with music is pretty offensive to me

Let's play a game here, folks.

What else in Reckless Records should be banned--err, I mean--should they "choose not to sell"--due to mixing "anti-women" sentiments (whatever the fuck that means and whoever the fuck determines such horseshit parameters) with music?

I'll start. Howzabout, anything involving Steve Albini.
Next?

How could anyone over, say, 12 years old not "get" Horizontal Action?

That girl's just mad because she's nothing but a walking vagina and a suckhole.

it sucks that they won't sell it anymore, but does that really affect sales of the magazine all that much?

People buy it? I thought it was free?

The quotes from Reckless representatives are awesome.

Kip McCade, who has managed Reckless's store on Broadway for ten years, says he's embarrassed to admit it, but it's possible the store carried Horizontal Action for so long without incident because the exact nature of the contents were unknown. "It wasn't until somebody noticed that some of the stuff in the magazine was penetration shots—what we considered triple-X—that anybody took notice," he says. "As far as I know, unless you take safeguards to keep from exposing that material to a younger audience, you're breaking the law."

Not being familiar with what you're selling and not being familiar with any laws which could possibly govern what you're selling -- now that's good management!

or her mouth. seems like it's constantly flappin' anyway. wait, that was very anti-woman. i'm a pig. i saw this moosehead beer ad that said something like: "the average woman speaks 10,500 words per day. 10,000 words too many."

Well you know these liberated chixxx don't shave the pits, so it'll feel au naturale. Man, I'm horny now. I'm going to Reckless right after work. I hear that's where the girls are.

O.K. so you put out a magazine that MIGHT make some female readers / clerks uncomfortable and then you want a boycott a store that doesn’t sell it? Don’t get me wrong, I think that the magazine should be sold (the same as I thought that Answer Me! should be sold) but don’t act like you don’t understand that someone might not like the content.

Seems like you would use something like this to your advantage to be sold in more “smut peddler” type establishments... Um, open up your market... (Saying all of this based on non-zine type distributor) vs. trying to get Blackout visitors to not shop at a certain store (record collectors would break their mothers pelvis, just to get a good record score...)
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 7:04 pm

ok then...here's a more valid reason to boycott

their "reckless" overpricing.
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 7:22 pm

We never said to boycott anything. But special ordering really offensive stuff and then not picking it up might be fun.

It's not a religious bookstore, it's a RECKLESS retail store that bases it's selection on having WRECKLESS music-oriented products, and they sold the magazine for almost eight years. If we would have thought it was in the wrong place, we would have never brought it there in the first place.

That's the only reason why this is stupid.
It's like the age-old adage of the scenario of a vegan working at a salad bar. Of course they would not want people to put bacon bits on their salad, but is it really up to them to decide what their clientele wants? Do they have to taste everything they sell?

They sell Mentors, white-power hardcore, and Geto Boys albums without a second glance, so this is silly, that's all.

I know, the offended Reckless employees could just get jobs as pharmacists, where they can choose not fill perscriptions for birth control.
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 7:34 pm

exactly.
Just imagine a job where you didn't have to see or deal with anything that offended you.

It's important to realize that people who are upset with the contents are not necessarily the audience HA is intended for. An article about using a chip bag for a condom isn't intended for someone who'd be offended by it. It is not like the cover of HA looks like a Highlights magazine. You can pretty safely judge a book by it cover in this case. Also the fact is that the core HA audience shops at Reckless (and stores of the like) more than they shop at Well Street Book store ( a porn shop). If reckless can't employ a staff responsible enough to make sure the "harmful" material doesn't fall into underage hands, well that just shows what it takes to work there---not much. It is also important to realize that pictures of cum all over a woman's face, doesn't mean you hate them it means you like them. I've have never nutted on someone I hated.----Same goes with finger-banging assholes. And the very subject of ROCK'n'ROLL is SEX! So if you don't like sex don't work at a record store! and don't tell the majority of the costumers that put the spaghetti on your plate what's good for them because that's only for them to decide.
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 7:48 pm

We never said to boycott anything. But special ordering really offensive stuff and then not picking it up might be fun.

Telling people not to shop at a certain store is pretty much the definition of a boycott...

It’s a little easier to see what is in the magazine vs. what the content is of the first Ghetto Boys CD (out of sight out of mind). Anytime a person moves away from their area of a record store or magazine rack (or even move down the dial on your radio) you run the risk of seeing or hearing something that might offend you. Does that mean I think it shouldn’t be there? No. With that said, what happened to Answer Me! In 1995 (I think) was based on someone moving away from the quilting area at a small news stand and looking at the Rape story and having it bring up all of her past issues from being raped.

Don’t misunderstand me.... We are talking about a record clerk and all it takes it one female record clerk to get into a snit, right? Hell, If I was in a snit about this (or a million other things) my work would do anything just to get me to shut the fuck up. That is probably what this is really about.

I actually had this discussion the about 3 weeks ago with someone. I mean, without sex there wouldn't be any r'n'r... Shit, ol' jump blues and early rock used the reference of "jelly roll" which we ALL know what that's referin' to and hell the name rock 'n roll is another way of talkin' about fuckin'....just my thoughts on the whole thing... you don't like sex, you don't like r'nr

when i first read this last night, I was pissed, but reading this thread, i get more and more angry. to the point where i wanna burn the place down. I just can't handle it.

what you guys need to do is get Time Out, or better yet, the Reader to do a story on you. Then you can talk about this and make them look like fools. If the Reader can do a COVER STORY on some chick that was mentaly unstable, was a nobody, used to be hot, but then tried to kill herself and now looks like a hag, they can find room for you.

that geto boys/white-power hardcore comment is SOLID FUCKING GOLD.

Look I really don't care... I don't live in Chicago and I don't read fanzines -- if Wipeout ever comes out again, I'll make an exception... If you didn't understand what I meant, no biggie.

Also, a gal can think that sex and rock 'n' roll kicks ass and not allow anyone to come on their face... Any female that really is empowered isn't going to try to change some dudes magazine purchases. Any person that doesn't like your magazine shouldn't buy it.

I am soo mad I could just cum all over Reckless!
Posted: Apr 7, 2005 8:18 pm

A little birdie told me that Reckless is going to ban coming on people's faces next month. Civilization has been allowing this for hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of years, but Reckless is just now getting around to giving it the boot. I'm pissed. I mean, coming on someone's face is what makes America what it is.

i think the real tragedy is that Horizontal Action didn't have Sir Lord Shits-his-shorts conduct the interview with Time Out Chicago. I would respectfully suggest that SLSHS handle all public relations from here on out.

remember a few months ago they did a cover story, A COVER STORY, on that chick (who's like, 36 now) that went to school at the art institue back in the day. She was manic depressive. She went up and down. One day she drank some Drano, and now she looks like a crystal meth hag. I mean, that's the story of 100,000 different people. I just didn't get why they made a big story out of it.
BUT, i was at a wedding with her about a month ago, and she bumed a cigarette off me, then walked off into the night.
later, i threw up.

anyway, point is, the Reader, which is free to all, and probably has bigger readership than Time Out, should pick up on this. OR maybe i'm making too much if it. maybe they shouldn't. maybe we should get over it.

but it's not like they turned down HA, and said "we don't want to carry this filth". they had if for FUCKING EVER, and just figured out there are boobs in it. IT'S CALLED FUCKING HORIZONTAL ACTION FOLKS!

i'm done.

Here is what I would do... Cut up 100's of small squares of some color glossy porno mags and just start sticking them in the record bins, between the Cd's, the magazine racks... or just cut up dirty photos from old HA.

Hey! I got it. I can hook y'all up with more gay porn than you can shake your stick at. Sell special Reckless Records editions that feature nude dudes. Than it's equally degrading to homo sexual men. Piece of cake.

Hey, alls I know is even fucking Waterloo stocks Horizontal Action and it's generally considered by many to be the fogy-ist record store around. We did shrink-wrap it the last couple of times, but we still carried it.

I bet you can pick up a Vice magazine at Reckless, and it hasn't been banned despite the un-p.c. hipster content contained therein.

I'm guessing it was easier for the manager of this place to stop carrying HA than it was to listen to his whiny employee complain about it. He's probably hung like a cashew anyway, and wanted to avoid a "confrontation" with an "empowered" female co-worker.

Please fuck off. This "nobody" from "back in the day" happens to be a great friend of mine and if you don't watch out, you may one day wake up to hear that one of your friends nearly killed themselves. Hopefully, the young gent posting about that on some message board in your future is a bit more sensitive in a public forum or you'll be just as pissed off as I am at you, fuckwad.

Awww, boo hoo. Big fuckin' deal. Even if she had killed herself, it would hardly be noteworthy. People do that every day too, as long as nobody forced the shit down her throat who gives a shit? Boo Fucking Hoo. I assume most people know someone who has tried to commit suicide, the ones that are serious about it tend to be sucessful.

Posted: Apr 8, 2005 2:24 pm

Guys, everything's cool. I talked to the owners of Reckless yesterday and they agreed to start carrying HA again. She said the only stipulation was that Todd had to give me one of his really rare punk records and I relunctantly agreed.
Posted: Apr 8, 2005 2:25 pm

I also pronounced "relunctantly" exactly as I spelled it here when I was talking to her.

... so last night as i'm chowing down at my local grubbery--true story--i overheard the following conversation that my neighbors at the bar were having:

"blah blah blah blah ....horizontal action!!"

"What?"

"Taylor banned it from Reckless!"

"What?"

"Cause it's trash dude! And Time Out wrote this article about it and..."

"What?!"

"And she asked Time Out not to print the article [Because it makes her look like a clueless, humorless moron. --Editor] but they printed it anyway."

"No way."

"Totally dude. It's pornography. The last issue they interviewed a porn star." [Interestingly, the gentleman appears rather familiar with the offending volume. --Editor]

The end.

I'm not here to offend anyone, or purposely hurt anyone's feelings. now that I look back I could have worded this differently and been less harsh, and I take responsibility for what I say by not hiding behind a pseudonym. if she was my friend, I'd probably have the same response you did.
That being said, my main point was that she's not a public figure, so I found it odd that they did a cover story on her.

I agree! Good thing HA doesn't have a blog.

I just noticed that every post I made on this thread is not only pointlessly hateful (as none of this even affects me), but also pointlessly sexist. Why don't I have friends?

feminism is not a dirty word

let me begin by saying i think blogging is about the gayest thing known to man. however, i'm actually in the mood to get a few things off my chest. so you may have heard about some purported controversy involving Reckless Records & Horizontal Action. let me say this, Reckless does not carry this rad zine anymore because--and only because--we do not have a license to carry porn. it is not because of my or any of my coworkers' personal tastes.

that being said, Fuck Horizontal Action. and fuck any publication or institution that champions the subordination and degradation of women. the reality of porn--and it is a sad, sad reality-- is that 90 percent of the women involved were raped or molested by a family member or friend at a formative age. the reason these women turn to porn is because they feel that by embracing their sex lives they are exhibiting some level of control over their abusive pasts. obviously, the opposite is true. the porn industry serves to only to further abuse them while reinforcing the negative stereotypes and behaviors from which these women feel they are liberating themselves.

additionally, porn acts as a blueprint for every myth that is WRONG about female sex and sexuality. most women don't get off from being fucked without foreplay.

now, don't get me wrong. i am not a conservative, in fact quite the opposite is true. and i don't hate sex, again quite the opposite is true. what i do hate is that a group of priveleged white boys (i'm talking about you Todd) think it's alright to review local garage bands in the same breath as telling you that women are all whores that like to be treated like cumrags. keep your fucking sexism out of my indie rock please. there is more than enough of that bullshit to go around in the music industry already.

once again though, let me assure you that these, my personal beliefs, have NOTHING to do with what the company i work for sells or does not sell.

Keep it real, ladies, and don't ever let any man, anywhere, make you feel ashamed for standing up for what you believe in.
peace,
t

she sounds repressed.

do you have to have a license to carry porn? I mean, if you do, great, but I've never heard of this before.
plus this pretty much goes against the argument she made for getting rid of this in the Time Out article.
sounds like she's trying to back peddle.

what i do hate is that a group of priveleged white boys (i'm talking about you Todd) think it's alright to review local garage bands in the same breath as telling you that women are all whores that like to be treated like cumrags.

So, yes, Mr. Killings, I'll see you at the cuntry club tonight after our polo matches and discuss stocks and bonds. Hmm. Quite.

Here's my latest review of local garage band The Worst.

The Worst 7" (Big Neck Records) reviewed by Ron Cozumel

I like The Worst a lot but did you know all women are whores who like being treated like cumrags?

That blog, and all its contradictory and backpeddling nonsense, is representative of a big reason why many people who should know better vote Republican.

That record sounds like a winner, I'll have to pick it up.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go tell my girlfriend to make me a sandwich.

I have to take mine to the emergency room. The whorish cumrag got LITE BEER at the market yesterday, so she paid. Dearly. I'll apologize with anal sex later tonight. I hear most girls like it up the coat.

keep your fucking sexism out of my indie rock please

since when did the bands reviewed in HA and the ones talked about here become "indie rock"

I'm not real fond of Radiohead or Pavement but I haven't really listened to them all that much

do they really sound like the Oblivians and the Reatards?

do you have to have a license to carry porn?

I always just found that stuff in empty lots or in forests. You probably have to talk to the Dept of Forestry about that

I do sort of love how most of the posts here just sort of gloss over the fact that maybe something in HA might be offensive... The message is that if you are female and you don’t like HA you are repressed and you don’t have a sense of humor -- The flipside is if you do like it you are a slut or you have been raped at a young age... I will never sit and say “boo hoo it’s SO hard to be a woman and be involved with garage rock” but with that said can’t there be a little something in between repressed / hates sex and cum dumpster?
What a load of crap.
Most of the Reatards records had been put out by a female -- same can be said for Micha at Crypt.
Posted: Apr 8, 2005 10:49 pm

I really wasn't addressing "sexism" at all

I have no idea what that is beyond a very easiliy identified attitude some people have and it seems to go both ways (not gender specific)

however I really do not like "indie rock" nor even the term

that is a fight I can get behind....were some of the Oblivians record covers sexist? was the ad Uleesha had in the last HA? I don't even have sex or want sex anymore so can I still be sexist?
Posted: Apr 8, 2005 10:49 pm

There is an in-between. Just because some people think you're either repressed or a cum dumpster if you read HA doesn't make it true. Fuck them.

I would never say that anything Alicja has done bothers me, I never said anything in HA bothers me, now did I? I would rather look at the Contaminated Advert vs. some of the "ladies" that have been in HA.
At least I think Alicja has the goods to back it up (hot, smart, talented, fun...)
All I'm saying is it's lame to act innocent about the content HA.

This Taylor chick is obviously not getting any. She needs to get fucked all day and loosen up. Todd, maybe you can help her?

I never said anything in HA bothers me, now did I?

I never said you said anything in HA bothered you now did I? I thought this was a discussion, not a "quoting each other ad infinitum and putting words in each others posts that we did not say" contest

seriously, I was wondering aloud about the nature of "sexism" and where the lines are drawn

I for one would not miss any nude/porn content taken out of HA but also I'm not offended by it, I'm also not really turned on by it but merely laugh at it

maybe that's cause I'm 5 years old

is this a good time to post this photo? (it's worksafe...no porn just sexism)

I for one have never gotten as much as a semi-soft boner from looking at the pages of Horizontal Action and I'm a horny motherfucker. I jerk off at least two or three times a day. I've never thought of the said "porn" as real porn, but as a total joke. C'mon, newsprint reproductions, of the most plastic looking women, lifted from the back of porno boxes. If you guys are gonna be considered smut peddlers than how about finding some good looking and exclusive natural like broads!
Posted: Apr 8, 2005 11:15 pm

There wasn’t any “tone” in my post... I don't know where the lines are drawn. I do know that it’s frustrating to be put in a mold of if you don’t let a guy cum on your face = prude.
Posted: Apr 8, 2005 11:23 pm

where did I say anything about "tone"?

this is why men and women can't get along isn't it?

I do sort of love how most of the posts here just sort of gloss over the fact that maybe something in HA might be offensive...

Well...SO WHAT if it is offensive to somebody? I always loved the liner notes in that one Big Black record where Albini mocks the idea of expecting punk rockers to go by the "playground parameters" of Decency, and expecting as much from anyone involved with rocknroll/punk rock/whatever you wanna call it. Frank Discussion of the Feederz has some great things to say about this as well in his liner notes to "Ever Feel Like Killing Your Boss?"

Again, so what? Especially when the offended parties aren't customers or parents, but an employee taking on the mantle of "Feminism" for all women, whether or not they unanimously agree with her.

The message is that if you are female and you don’t like HA you are repressed and you don’t have a sense of humor

I love laughing when something is actually funny. HA just isn't funny. I remember last year I put the copy I bought at Goner in a nowheresville Taco Bell bathroom to give the local yokels a bit of a gander of some naked girls. Mentioning that at the time on this board, you'd thought I had put a fucking hit on every member of the Reigning Sound. Some jabronis were really and truly pissed that I had relegated the HA to a Taco Bell toilet!

Posted: Apr 9, 2005 12:41 am

Buzzkill is some of the funniest shit I ever read.

Now that the RS has been drug through this little puddle, I'll give'ya my opinion. The pictures in HA are stupid and childish... as is punk rock. I'm no more offended by it than "bitches fuck off". Unlike Ben's lyrics though, it seems to offer no satyrical comment. It's simply ridiculous. If the mag droped the pics it would make little difference to me. Meanwhile I suggest that all captions of women being fucked read: This girl had 30 minutes of forplay before this photo was taken. Thats why she's so happy. Voila! Your feminists. Your welcome.

Ida Slapter. Just your name gives me the feeling of hostility toward women. Can't we all just breathe? Ok, we can stop now.

Have you read my book, Phyllis and Her Eyelids?

It's the story of a man living in a semi-parallel universe who is arrested for inventing hockey.

Shut up little woman and listen to the queen MILF, Nina Hartley (in response to an essay critical of porn by Prof. Chyng Sun):
Professor Sun defames male consumers of pornography with the same broad strokes used to stereotype the experiences of female performers. Does she really believe that the average man cannot tell the difference between a movie and real life? Does she really think that young people's difficult times with sex are more attributable to porn than to the enforced ignorance resulting from twenty years of abstinence-only "sex education" and anti-choice propaganda? Does anyone seriously harbor the idea that individual conceptions of intimacy and sexual pleasure are shaped more by exposure to pornography than by the examples parents set for their children?

A young person?s self-image, ability to set boundaries, and attitude toward sex is formed long before his or her teen years, before he or she has encountered to the supposed "evils" of pornography. I have personally met, and looked into the eyes of, hundreds of thousands of fans over the past two decades, and precious few of them would fit Professor Sun's construction of the "typical" consumer.

And to confabulate the images on a screen, which are created performances, with the actual experience of the performers themselves, would be laughably literal-minded, were it not so profoundly insulting. Sex performers, like the products they make, vary greatly in taste and temperment. We are much more than the characters we play. LIke it or not, many female performers enjoy what they do, including things Professor Sun finds repellent. If we are not to choose what forms of sexual _expression we find appropriate for ourselves, who is to do the choosing for us, Professor Sun and her like-minded friends of the Christian Right?

Lord knows there's no love lost between me and Horizontal Action. I'm not a fan of the Porn Industry, either. That said, I'm not giving Reckless any more of my money. Not that I'll miss having to hack through Pavement and Appleseed Cast records(with the prereqisite "if you don't like this, YOU'RE A MORON" staff-review stickers on them)to get to anything decent.
Seriously, shitcanning Hozoc for their (admitedly juvenile)content, while displaying overpriced WHITEHOUSE records on the wall, is so damn two-faced it makes my head spin. Hey, maybe Reckless can give the profits from selling the Susan Lawly catalog to NOW.
The kicker is Taylors' hackneyed Women's Studies 101 comment about Hozoc Being "privleged white boys." Is there ANYTHING that reeks more of 'white privlege' than Indie Rock? Fretting over the new Postal Service lp while the rest of the world eeks out a subsistance-level existence is almost enough to turn a "right-wing scatmuncher" like me into a raving Marxist. I'd bet that Klan rallies are more 'diverse' then your typical indie-rock show, save for the token Asian girl that all the geeks drool over.
But seriously, I better stop here. According to Taylor, blogging is Gay, and we can't have any of THAT, can we?

I hope yall realize that the generally sexist and demeaning way you have talked about this issue and specifically the girl from reckless that was interviewed in Time Out only serves to reinforce the criticisms that she and presumably others have made about HA. I’m not saying this is necessarily true but the content of this thread could easily lead folks to believe ‘well the people who support HA are dumbfuck misogynists. So the magazine (HA) by and for these people is certainly lame sexist bullshit no different from any other porno mag.’ I don’t know it seems to me like yall are hurting your own cause, picking on people, and making yourselves look bad.

Amen. Also, stand around a group of Flock of Seagulls-looking fuckers like this outside a show or a party when there are no girls around sometime. You will hear asshole sexism like you would not believe, coming from a group of guys who feign being the most sensitive pieces of shit on earth.

If somebody looks like a goddamn idiot in print, and then sounds like even more of a goddamn idiot in their blog on myspace as an attempt to elaborate/backpedal/self-contradict/cover-up-their-own-huge-lapses-in-logic, especially over a magazine almost all of us on here enjoy quite a bit (and, duh, not for the grainy pisspoor black/white reproduction of sexual images), WELL OF COURSE people are gonna call bullshit and respond to this kind of stupidity with jokes, razzes, and, actually, some decent arguments.

If somebody claims to speak for ALL women and not just herself under misapplied knee-jerk misinterpretations of "feminism," well, boo fucking hoo if they get shit for it. If I worked at Reckless, I'd pull 80% of what they sell for being "offensive" in any number of ways, all under the rubric of "good taste." Granted, it's my own "good taste," but as an employee, I can surely speak for everyone, right?
Posted: Apr 18, 2005 6:48 pm

a magazine almost all of us on here enjoy quite a bit (and, duh, not for the grainy pisspoor black/white reproduction of sexual images),

I agree with the above argument completely, BUT, I think we all have to admit the porno/sexist/horny 16-year old guy mentality of the magazine is a big factor in why it's cool. I'm not saying it's porno (you'd have to be pretty hard up for adult content to jack off to this magazine), but the misogny and offensive sexual stuff is DEFINATELY a major reason why this rag is so funny. I can read reviews of the new Catholic Boys or Deadly Weapons records in a variety of cheap mags with similiar coverage, but I'm not going to have it told in such a juvenile manner. To me, that's pretty entertaining.

Also, this chick looks like a bad combination of Karen O and Patti Smith......not that it really matters, but.......ewww.....

I dunno, this girl is obviously a D-Y-K-E if you want to know the honest to god truth on the matter. And we all know what a lesbo needs to snap her out of it....some good old fashioned hard fucking. I'm not necassarily saying she needs to be seeking it out, either. We all know 9 times out of 10 that "no" means "yes". I mean look at how her Myspace profile blantanly shows off her face? Might as well have a tagline above it that says "please cum on my face". What a slut. Anyways, like most broads, all this little girl needs is a husband, a few babies and a nice suburban house to calm her the fuck down. Working at a record store in the big city is all fine and good, but when she grows out of it, let's hope she has a husband with enough sense to beat the the sass out of her every time she decides to get all "feminist" and shit.....now if you will excuse me, I have to re-new my subscription to Meatholes.com. Bye.
