Goner Message Board / ???? / 100 Best Hoosier Albums Ever!
Posted: Apr 12, 2014 6:58 pm

This just came out: http://www.nuvo.net/indianapolis/100-best-hoosier-albums-ever/Content? oid=2806124#.U0nMpNKsj3a

Though there's bound to be some disagreement over omissions, it was good to note some of the following artists on the list of 100:
Gizmos
MX-80 Sound
Zero Boys
Dancing Cigarettes
Apache Dropout
Vulgar Boatmen
Hoagy Carmichael

Interestingly, all of the above have been associated with The Gizmos (except for Hoagy, who would've been if he could!) And yeah, John Cougar Mellencamp is also on the list, and was associated with the Gizmos on the following entry:
"Gizmos - 1976/77 The Studio Recordings
punk - recorded 1976-77
Best news out of the Gizmos camp this year? The lineup that recorded these songs is reuniting and touring this summer."

Here's an alternate list created in response to the Nuvo article, with the upside that you can download lots of the mentioned albums for free.

It's much more 90s Alt Rock, but still lots of great (Free!) stuff.

(Disclaimer: I do have music on that site, but I ain't on anyone's top 50 list.)

I've got to admit, I prefer Lazy Cowgirls over J.C.M. Call me funny...

There has always been some confusion over weather the Cowgirls were an LA band or an Indiana band...I mean were all the Cowgirls from Indiana? Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin were both from Indiana also, were GNR an Indiana band?

What about R. Dean Taylor? or is it just that Indiana wants him?

GNR may claim L.A. but they are THE Hoosier band per anyone from the St Louis area:

Music gets in the way of Hoosier sports worship.

I can appreciate Indiana for being almost as scary as my own state. Can anyone in Bloomington area put me up for the Manatees show?

Dang it, my work computer won't let me load the link... Horribly Wrong, the real best band from Bloomington!

That state is?

I lived in Indiana for ten years, the "Best years of my life," if you believe the movies.

Shannon Hoon, Axl, Mellancamp etc. all came from small towns here and there.
