I always liked St Vitus and Sleep but I'm pretty ignorant about this genra. Bought a Pentagram album and a record by this band called Northless I stumbled upon online. I'm really into this stuff right now. I want to find some extremely sludgy, slow, heavy stuff.

the music is alright the fans are annoying.
Posted: Jan 2, 2013 2:00 pm

Dude I live in MS. I'm the only fan here. Your right though, that's probably a good thing. I just get on music kicks. Right now it's really fast hardcore and really slow metal.
Posted: Jan 2, 2013 2:18 pm

Really digging Electric Wizard. Nice. That kind Of musical knowledge is why I come here.

Shit Matt Russell would hate:
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Earth - III, Pentastar in the Style of Demons or the Sunn Amps and Smashed Guitars lp
Burning Witch - Towers ep
Sunn 0))), an Earth tribute band (member of Thor's Hammer & Burning Witch)
OM (ex-Sleep)
Paul Chain - (Death SS guitarist) Park of Reason
Slow Horse

Kvelertak -- is the new favorite around our house. My husband is obsessed
At The Gates -- Slaughter Of The Soul is a GREAT record that I can listen to for hours on end.
Sacrilege
Pelican
Old Man Gloom
Pig Destroyer (someone might debate me on the classification, but that shit is good)
Agoraphobic Nosebleed
The Sword

I can't get into Sunn and I have known the original guys from Earth since I was in my late teens.
Posted: Jan 2, 2013 6:54 pm

I am guessing that someone might want to debate me on the classification of most of that stuff, but if you are looking really good metal, maybe not doom metal.
Posted: Jan 2, 2013 9:20 pm

Candlemass and PAUL CHAIN are seconded.

2nd Candlemass LP and Paul Chain "Detaching From Satan" are certified ASS-POUNDERS.
Posted: Jan 2, 2013 10:13 pm

Warning and 40 Watt Sun
Yeah and most of what ida typed wouldn't be considered slow dirgey doom metal. Some of it is great metal though
Posted: Jan 2, 2013 10:39 pm

Dopelord
Rites

can't believe no one mentioned Trouble, the first 3 LPs are great

tread lightly into the Obsessed's catalog, lots of yawns in it...

Moss - http://mossdoom.bandcamp.com/
Ramesses - other part of the original Electric Wizard -
Yob -
Grief -
Iron Monkey -
Acid King -

Most that shit out of NOLA being more sludge than doom, but fuck it:

I want to get this lp. I knew Keith and Shaun when they were in Rat in a Bucket (great nola grind band that never released anything except a cdr) and Grant (the guitarist) fucking rules (part of the humorously named "Graveweed"). The bassist is in Spickle with Paul from Mangina, they're technical instrumental metal.

Now that whatdatsay opened the gates, or more precisely when ida did with her suggestion of non-Doom bands, try Church of Misery and Boris, both from Japan. Church of Misery is stonery and every Boris record sounds different.

not doom metal, but badass metal. Its 20 years old, but I just heard it a couple months ago. My new favorite metal record...
Posted: Jan 4, 2013 11:46 am

Black Hell and Graves at Sea would probably interest you if you can find anything by them. Also Anathema and Paradise Lost's early stuff is pretty good. I enjoy their later stuff too but it gets pretty far away from what we are tying about here.

Graves at Sea

Isn't somebody who was in Noothgrush in that band?
Oh yeah, Noothgrush.
Posted: Jan 4, 2013 4:47 pm

I like what I've heard of the new Graveyard... I'm not an affcionado of the genre tho... so I don't know if the reason it hasn't been mentioned yet is because it's not mondo obscuro = cool enough.

[i]Godstomper, Crossed Out[ /i]

Wrong genre, but ruling. Saw Godstomper once in Chicago: "Let's play that song about killing people!" "Which one?" Set lasted 10 minutes and I think they knocked their whole drumkit over at least 3 times.

Dead Man is a great LP. Really digging the eponymous Demian record lately as well. Don't think it's doom though.

I just got Electric Wizard's - Black Masses(I think it's called)Double LP
Not near as tuff and heavy as Dopethrone. Kinda reminded me of Hawkwind at times. I wanted more heavy shit. Kinda bummed. I liked about 2/3 of it. I'll have to hawk some serious wind and give it another listen.
Posted: Jan 7, 2013 2:52 pm
