You should be taggin All those "who sings that song" websites and stuff. There are people asking who it is.

Gives me the creeps. Dunno how I feel about it after actually seeing the commercial.

I get that. At the end of the day however, I like bands i like getting paid, so I don't blame them. If a Mangina song appeared in a Pepsi commercial tomorrow...first of all I'd freak out and laugh my ass of.....,then I'd be proud. It's fun being ahead of the curve. When I first heard that song I knew it was great....it doesn't surprise me a bit. The fire
rises.

Also, it probably won't mean shit. America still has generally shitty taste in music. Are the Oblivians world famous from that Nissan commercial yet?
Posted: Aug 23, 2012 9:17 am

Get that money, mates!

But who are CHAD AND FRANCOIS???
Posted: Aug 23, 2012 1:04 pm

It won't mean shit...you might hear it at a bar if they have internet streaming radio instead of a DJ.

America has killed its youth.

Same here. A lot of these tunes from underground or forgotten bands used for commercials help turn people onto music they would otherwise have never heard of. I remember being in a store when a TV commercial came on with a Sonic's song playing and the whole place went silent with the customer's and staff trying to hear it clearly and figure out who the band performing it was.

How can you not love it? Wouldn't the world be a better place if ECSR was played everywhere, all the time, instead of the whiny autotuned crap we hear everywhere?

If I were president, I would make it mandatory.

The problem is that good music in commercials turns fucktards onto quality...but they still remain total blatant fucktards....that's the real problem as I see it.
Posted: Aug 23, 2012 2:27 pm | Edited by: tigerblinds

I mean realy how sad is that? You need a fucking cell phone commercial to turn you onto good music?

But I don't have a problem with licensing goods to major corporations.....

I just don't like the argument that it will make the world any better of a place....no not realy.

I mean I guess alot of people got clued into Nick Drake via a BMW commercial...again how sad is that?

Yes! The music industry has changed so much....I imagine it's really hard for bands to make money....That's why I never minded the Scion thing(you knew that was coming from some one).....My version of an artist selling out is basically when you consciously start writing music that makes you appeal more to the masses. If your just doing your thing and some corporation wants to pay you for your music.....I have no problem with it.

Not my problem. Not your problem either. Let the sheep be.

I do like that people with music tastes that match mine are gradually making it into influential positions with advertising firms where they can recommend music that I like for use in the commercials. You people make me proud.

Great song. shit ad.

Great song. shit ad.

now this is actually a great point. The ad does kinda suck. the song is easily the most interesting part of it. good for ECSR though.

I think its pretty funny that an ECSR song is in a commercial that features a black guy.

I think it's funny that you think that's funny.

ECSR on a cricket phone commercial with a black guy would have been much more believable.

God you all are getting a little defensive....I'm the indifferant one here...you guys getting your panties in a bunch?

I mean I still like the band, what the fuck is your alls problem?
Posted: Aug 27, 2012 9:46 am

...and yeah, since there is no legit music media...what the hell are we going to do?

Not my problem is right...fuck me for pointing out the problem douches.
Posted: Aug 27, 2012 9:50 am

Maybe my grandmom will see this commercial and get me the cassette just like she did with MC Hammers II legit II quit album...here is hoping.

I'm happy corporations even bother with real bands...I mean it's not like they don't have a slew of jingle writers they could put to work.
Posted: Aug 27, 2012 10:00 am

I mean I expect this kind of bullshit from Cole, he has no point of reference.

AT&T just postponed payment on my bill...they haven't fucked me over yet. I could realy give a shit.

But yeah, it's a sad state of affairs indeed...I say take whatever money anyone offers you, but like most old farts I thank the stars I was born when I was.
Posted: Aug 27, 2012 10:36 am

It's realy not worth arguing about but let me leave on this note:

"one small step for ECSR, one giant leap for mankind" AT&T is doing Gods work.

It brings me endless joy to think some kid in Peedee, Kentucky, might see this commercial and take it upon themselves to google who does the music. I mean they could have used The Decemberists, but they didn't, they chose a band I dig...that's awesome. I couldn't be bubblier.

I don't even see this as a political matter...I'm being sincere here...it's just, 'great for them'...it doesn't make my dick hard...sorry Cole, sorry Joe, sorry Uptight White..it just doesn't make my dick hard...maybe I've reached a certain age...maybe viagra is in my near future.

I see a new category at some lame music awards program. This years top smart phone jingle goes to___________, and That's all it will be remembered for. Take the 15,000 dollars, cuz it's really gonna change your life. Campaign to keep music ugly in 2013.

Look, I never said I had a problem with licensing your music out to corporations...
I just said I was indifferent about it.

Did anything good come from Ford Motors using The Dirtbombs, "Can't Stop Thinking About It?"
No, not realy, not as far as I can tell. I was kind of happy about that one because I knew how obscure and overlooked
Horndogfest was when it first came out, and it is still my favorite Dirtbombs record.

What's good about licensing this song out to AT&T is that hopefully some good guys got paid. What's bad is that
we are one step closer to hearing the MUZAK version on an elevator somewhere. But the "actuality" of it outways the
"hypothetical" repercussions. So who cares? But you can't expect me to get a fucking erection over it...you're like a bunch
of horny nagging wives and sometimes I'm just not in the mood.

I mean I know some of you are all eager to display you undying GONER solidarity, but get a life already. Seriously...it's pathetic.

AT&T is gonna hip folks...not. I mean product licensing has been the name of the game for some time now, where the hell have you all been?

It's realy not that exciting.

Get lives...go for a walk, talk to a stranger.
Posted: Aug 28, 2012 7:42 am

Exactly..I agree with Ventor.

And I'm hoping it's more like 20,000...which is so fucking miniscule in the grand scheme of things....jesus....

I have no problem whatsoever with licensing your music out to corporations...but it's not the coolest thing since sliced bread...and we are living in rather bleak times as far as what you got to do to survive.

Ten years ago I would have been like fuck major corporations....you are better off without them....not so much now.
Posted: Aug 28, 2012 7:51 am | Edited by: tigerblinds

It's about time someone took a slice of pie out of the hands of The Decemberists. Fuck them.

The entire music industry on all levels is supported by major outside corporations...tell me that's not fucked up?

It's where the world is at...

I'm supposed to yell, "Yippie", "Hooray"...I mean that's great that good guys are getting paid, but I'm not going to stick birthday candles in a mud pie.

I'm happy for the people that benefited from this, they deserve a pat on the back and I wanna say I'm glad for you...that doesn't change the state of the world...this isn't going to hip anyone to the raw subversive power of rocknroll, if anything it will do the opposite...so what? No one else seems to care, why should I?...I mean that's all I was even responding too here. So quit busting my hump just cuz you want to rub shoulders.

I'm all for bands I like being paid & paid handsomely. "Good things happen to good people" is a great sentiment, but, regrettably, no one ever gets to see it happen enough.

So far as AT&T phone service goes, I would not buy their service because of this ad as much as I would buy it from working as a vendor for cell service providers, I know how much they put into their networks & I know some of the people who are operating it. It is because of this I would probably only use AT&T or VzW. I would not have a Sprint PCS phone. If you like the service you get from Sprint, that's great, but I've seen the way they run their networks & some of the folks they have in central offices are dumber than the table your computer currently sits on. They are at least 2 years behind VzW & AT&T when it comes to 4G LTE.

im here to tell that t mobile sucks ass. the 't' must stand for twat.
Posted: Sep 6, 2012 12:57 pm

T-Mobile offers what they call 4G, but it's not LTE. It'll deliver probably 11 Mbps, which is no doubt fast, but pales in comparison to the 55 Mbps that LTE can deliver.

For those of you that are really into this, Fast G, or G.Fast as others put it, is 1 Gbps. It has been achieved, but is nowhere close to being offered to service providers & is probably 6 or 7 years away from a wireless commercial launch yet.

After seeing this commercial for the hundredth time, I wondered if one were to take a walk down memory lane, why would they expect it not to look quite the same? Seems hardly noteworthy.

tigerblinds and the ventorlator are the republicans who don't want any money going to music/arts. You'd rather keep them poor. Sounds pretty right-wing to me.
Posted: Sep 11, 2012 9:21 pm

There's no way they only got $15k for a major AT&T commercial. They likely got a big chunk of change for the initial license (often split with the record label, depending on the contract). They also will be getting money from ASCAP or BMI. A lot of money if you asked me, cause they're playing the shit outta that commercial. Finally, the singer of ESCR will be making extra money cause it's his voice. Dentyne Ice used my friends song a few years back and he lived very comfortably for a few years off of that money.

So I say make that money, mates!!!

I don't think commercials pay that much.
I could be totally wrong and usually am tho.

News Flash..I have a record label bub...besides the fact that I've had 4 different local bands over the years....

Also giving a shit about music politics is part of the underground tradition.

This take the money and run ethic is straight out of Reaganomics 101.

Ventor and I had it out, but he made some legit points, I'll defend his stance over the 'can't see the forest for the trees' shit you're spewing any day.

I thought you were in garage bands

because some people do it as more than a hobby

I haven't had cable TV for years and I don't watch sports - so I don't see many (if any) commercials.

they all suck compared to these

There you go mixing up issues again...

You're just like a fucking Reaganite...voting for the bastards sending the jobs over seas and getting rid of unions, and then bitching about how there are no jobs or job security..blaming it on mythical left wing boogie men. Using the regular worker as an excuse for some robber baron to utilize slave/child labor.....

You are so mixed up you need a brain douche. Typical American.

You realy don't want to bring my day job into this bub, I see millionaire corporate CEO's on a daily basis and since I work for the academic designers and primary customers of their products, we don't take any shit off of them, spineless shits.
Posted: Sep 18, 2012 8:43 am

I'm not going to knock the effectiveness of Reaganomics, it fits human nature...mankind are a bunch of stupid, self-serving, scumfucks....
