I bought a Mitch Hedberg cd at a yard sale the other day....fucking brilliant. First comedy cd I've ever owned. Any other comedians you guys like? I'd like to track down some comedy on vinyl. Anything essential?

hedberg was really, really funny. other obvious current-ish ones would be louis ck and jim norton. there's a new movie out on bill hicks if you have never heard his stuff.

probably can't get either of these guys on vinyl but I think both of these guys are two of the funniest people that have ever been on this planet - quite similar (fucked up) styles abut a few decades apart

Bill Hicks (track down any of his DVD's)

There was a young lady named Alice
Who was known to have peed in a chalice
Was a common belief it was done for relief
And not out of Protestant malice.

Jamie Foxx is pretty funny.

As for "classic stuff", get anything by George Carlin. "Class Clown" and "A Place for my Stuff" are pretty essential.

As for newer guys Aziz Ansari's got a CD that's pretty damn funny. Louis CK too.

Lewis Black and Richard Jeni have had their moments.

totally!

also, if you like mitch hedberg, you might like this guy Anthony Jeselnik - his humor is definitely more off color, but the style is sorta similar:

Lewis Black - Haven't been impressed by his recent material but the title track to The End of the Universe is great.

Bill Hicks - Has got a bunch of CDs as well as DVDs though it probably works better to see him. Dangerous and Relentless both have many great moments.

Steven Wright - Has a live LP, I Have a Pony from 1987 (my laughter is on it.) Has a lot of his best early material.

Bob and Ray - Try to find an LP with Slow Talkers Society on it.

I second CK, Carlin, Hicks, Pryor.

Patton Oswalt's first album is out on vinyl I believe. Very funny. I also recommend Paul F. Tompkins.

Louis ck said his favorite actice comedian is bill cosby, that he saw him months ago and the guy slayed...I know his old records are pretty great. Listen to Norton. He's the closest to Pryor in that fucked up confessional style.

Steve Martin's three albums from the seventies if you like his style of humor.

RIP
http://www.greggiraldo.com

Greg was awesome. I recently watched the David Hasselhoff Roast - Greg's last roast (a month before he overdosed) and, man, he was so skinny, twitchy and sketched out. It was a real bummer to watch him and not half as funny as his other Roasts.
... Like the time he said Flavor Flav looked like a skeleton wrapped in electrical tape.

Jerry Clower is amusing to me. Jokes about RC Cola and small town life that seem to make old people in plastic frame glasses fall out of their chairs with belly laughs.
