I don't have a dog, but my stepmom is a dog training nerd and is constantly teaching their dog new tricks. Their wheaton terrier knows most of the standards above, plus:

bunny (makes her take off into the bush at top speed and disappear for a few minutes in search of a rabbit to chase)
bow (she'll lower her front half, that "I want to play" stance)
shake / other paw
leave it
heel
what's your name (this makes her say "WUWUWOWWWW")
play dead (tits up with her legs open - not a great look)
roll over

and probably more pointless, obscure commands I'll never hear.

my deaf dog only knows a few signs/gestures, but is really good with them:
a circle "O" with thumb and index finger = "go out?"
thumbs up = "good dog!" tail starts wagging the body
point to ground = "sit" usually followed by a handhsake if there's a treat involved.
palm to ground = "lay down"
removing the bath mat in the bathroom = she jumps in the tub on her own for a bath
show her the car keys = "wanna go for a ride?"
stomp on the hardwood floors = "stop licking yourself!"

dang, my dog is smart, he knows pretty much all these plus

drop it
back it up
outta my way
do your cute thing
where's your kong?
get some water
gimme your ears
gimme your paw
lemme clip your nails
time for your vitamins (takes his fish oil pills like treats)
lemme see your teeth
go to bed
gimme a kiss (pushes his forehead against mine)
that's not yours
and so on, I swear his vocabulary is almost as big as mine. These are not things I actually tried to teach him.

He's a hand gesture genius, too. I can point at just about anything and he knows what to do. Palm up means stop and sit. Point to the floor means lay down. He will stay in one place forever until I say OK. Unfortunately, he's just naturally this smart and also drags me when on a leash, etc. and I can't teach him to let me be in charge on a walk. Don't know what to do. In the house I'm the boss, outside he's the boss. Suuuuuuuuuuuuux.

It's weird because if I give him a command like "sit" while on the leash he will do it, but once we start moving again he's full speed charging ahead. Makes no sense, because when we go out in the yard I can tell him to "wait" and he waits, he walks behind me... I've somehow ruined walking for him, and he's a big dog that needs to walk a lot! I've tried running with him, but no matter how fast you go he wants to beat you and he never gets tired. It's an exhausting full body workout. 3 miles later he will still be dragging you down the street, at a dead sprint.

Lula, I don't think Nick would appreciate you talking about him like that.

i'm trying to work on hand signals for my elderly mutt as she's getting deaf.

at least i figured out that a sharp clap or two while she's outside will get her attention & back in the house since she can't hear me calling her. different tones, the vet says.

This is cute. My wife really wants to adopt a deaf or special needs dog.

We have two dogs. Our husky mix is so smart and knows many of the commands on here. My wife is good to teach him new things.

Our greyhound, however, has been impossible to teach. She's hilarious though, and is totally dramatic. My wife yelled at her the other day because she had stolen a sack of bagels off of the counter and eaten 4 of them, and the poor dog screamed like she was being beaten and ran into the other room. It made us both feel so bad!

My cats can:

Hide your cellphone, keys, money(in your shoes or under the bed)...anything that requires you to go away and not pay attention to them.
Come to you when called by there names.
Fetch (sometimes).
Open locked doors with there paws (no shit).
Go to the bathroom on the toilet. (not kidding)
Kill birds, rats, mice, squirrels, other cats, small dogs, chipmunks, ...(not kidding)
Guard the house as if they are dogs( they love dogs).
Tell jokes.
Be the biggest 22 pound each ass kicking sweetest cats on the block!
