...but if you can't, just confirmed: we will be attempting to stream the whole thing in entirety. No promises on quality/connectivity, but it's free. It's probably just a better idea to come down and see the whole thing live. We'll try, though. Brought to you by Goner Records and Rocket Science Audio.

Scott's the only one you need to watch out for. He's kind of a big gay asshole.

You mean this guy?

Yeah, I'm actually pretty terrified of him already.
Posted: Sep 10, 2010 9:59 pm

update, may do some preliminary testing tonight and tomorrow, and could use some help from anyone available. Watch this space for further details.

Also, if anyone using a Mac in past years to watch the stream, could you kindly provide the details of how you were able to get in? We're still using the Windows Media stream utility, and the Apple thing seems to be one of the most common problems we run into for connections. I know some folks have been able to watch/hear the stream on a Mac previously, so help us out and share if there's anything special you are doing.

You know I'm glad to hear that, and Josh is a pillow fucker.
If y'all come down for sxsw, you should stop in and play a night. We'll all chip in to put it on. And Gonerfest next year would be great; it ain't up to me, but you know you and Amber or a FEW freinds can stay here if you need.

the plan is to do some gigs on the way down and the way back, we play thursday night. i know gonerfest aint yer call, but once THE ONIONS unleash our monster debut on the world i have no doubt the powers that be will be impressed. we have been working hard as a band for over a year, and it has really started to pay off. 8 gigs just this month! we begin recording in a couple weeks...
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 3:05 am
i want to see roundabout!!!
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 3:10 am
we begin recording in a couple weeks...

Y'all doin' it a Josh's new place or somewhere in the back 40, next to the boat dock on your lot next to the video arcade?
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 3:15 am
Night man. Test worked. Tell your friends.
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 3:16 am
we are waiting on josh to get a reel to reel and we're gonna record down there with him for a future vinyl release that way, but for now we are going to be working in my basement, i have a decent 24 channel board and set up a control room and separate studio room. i have some good mics and a computer down there, so we can make pretty good recordings right here, though its only 16 bit A/D conversion, so its pretty limited that way. here we will be working mainly on demos and new songs, but as i have found in the past once you have something recorded its pretty much impossible to guess what will end up on record years down the road. sometimes that first recording is best, even if the fidelity does leave something to be desired, so who knows? theres some pictures of our current setup over here:

We're streaming now. Reminder: you need to use Internet Exploiter to access the stream...people who use chrome firefox or safari or any other non-shitty browsers are out of luck
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 9:01 pm
It's working fine on IE. Hope I don't get filled with Trojans.
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 9:12 pm
I would worry about the worms cumming out of the trojans. Watch your backdoor.
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 10:08 pm
Apparently, I'm told that there is a way to get the stream on a Mac, but you have to install some extra stuff to get it to work. I'm sure someone has figured this out already...if anyone knows, holla!
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 10:23 pm | Edited by: dale
It's not loading for me. HELP!!! Oh, wait. I gotta use fucking IE.
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 10:26 pm
Where's that direct long IP link from years past where we could watch in just straight up Media Player?
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 10:28 pm

Try that.
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 10:38 pm
YES! Bigger screen too!
Posted: Sep 22, 2010 10:50 pm
There better be some talking too the internet this year and I better be mentioned on it too. It's one of my highlights of the year.

mac users, Aaron says "flip4mac"?
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 12:06 am
Yes. That works. I have flip4mac, but I just put that mms:// in the "open URL" in QuickTime. I think flip4mac works as a plugin for QT.

Anyway, Vermillion Sands is coming through loud and clear. But it's only making me more distraught that I'm not gonna make it up at all this year. Life really gets in the way of my life.
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 12:27 am
the required plug-in is not installed

4. paste the link

Thanks, everybody (how you doin' wesss)!

Brad, whichever file type is easy enough to burn to dvd, otherwise we'll try to play it through another laptop. Burning to dvd would be easiest, though.

Join us at 5:30 for The Oh Sees and again at 9:00 back at the world famous Hi-Tone.

I believe Live From Memphis will be joining us tonight, so we should have better video action.

Tell your friends!
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 3:36 pm
The VLC media player will play just about anything you can throw at it. Works on PC/Mac/Linux.

Download: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Choose File -> Open Network and paste in the stream URL:
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 3:49 pm
Just saw cameras being set up at the "Goner" pavilion so it looks like they'll be video of The Oh Sees performance.

Last night was truly great. Spider Bags as a three piece ruled. Missing Monuments and Useless Eaters killed it. Vermillion Sands lived up to the hype and than some. Jeff and the boys sounded great as well.

And it didn't feel like a sauna in the HiTone!
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 4:24 pm
Brad, whichever file type is easy enough to burn to dvd, otherwise we'll try to play it through another laptop.

i will send audio_ts and video_ts folders, all you have to do is burn them to a data dvd (basically any dvd-r or dvd+r) and they will play on any dvd player.

Trying to find internets out at the gazebo!
We hope to bring you Thee Oh Sees in about an hour!
Anybody got a phone we can use as a modem? Come on down!

Fingers crossed!!
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 5:41 pm
mms:// isn't pulling up anything for me now. Does that mean the paper cups and twine aren't working at the gazebo? Or do I need to be figuring something else out. Got my cold beer waiting. Oh, maybe I should open that first then things will magically start working.
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 5:47 pm

Posted: Sep 23, 2010 6:36 pm
Started out strong, then I had to keep reloading the URL. I figured it was my crap connection here.
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 7:15 pm
We ended up bumming some nets from the restaurant across the street (Thanks Blue Fin!) but it was a little shaky. Hope you enjoyed what you could see.
On to the Hi Tone...
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 7:35 pm
Yes, special thanks to Reef (Bluefin closed a while back). Thanks to the neighbors supporting music anyway they can, and thanks to Taper Joe.

Remember folks, when in Memphis and you are looking for something delicious from the ocean to eat, and you're standing on the corner of Cooper and Young, and you're thinking "What's a girl to do?", go to Reef. Tell them thanks for the Oh Sees. They probably won't know what you're talking about, but hey, you put it out there.
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 7:37 pm
P.S. the connection died only twice, but we got it back up pretty quick. Also, thanks to Live From Memphis with the last minute camera help.
Tonight the connection shall be strong!
Not sure what Buccaneer will be like tomorrow.
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 7:41 pm
Got to hear "Tidal Wave" and that's my #1 jam!
Keep up the good work, chaps. I'll pretend I'm buying you a beer on my next trip to the fridge.

Not sure what Buccaneer will be like tomorrow.

Drivin' me nuts, arrr.
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 8:13 pm
Jack - are you trying to host all of the connections right from yr location, or are you using an intermediary server or CDN? If yr hosting locally, you may want to try hooking into something like justin.tv. You just send one stream to them and they restream to everybody using their servers/network.
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 8:18 pm
the ocs are pretty motherfucking good.
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 8:20 pm
we're at the Hi Tone Streaming now.
Thanks, fuzzyT. We got the connections server side out to the internets, it's trying to get a free, good wireless connection to the server that is the problem. At the Hi Tone, we're Cabled, so shouldn't be any interruptions.
Can y'all see anything?

Seriously, thanks for the stream...It's got me pumped up. I had no idea how to pronounce Friedle either....
Posted: Sep 23, 2010 11:15 pm
I dug seeing thee Oh Sees early today too. One of the rare things I actually ever look forward to on the internet is Gonerfest. The day and night streams this year are so sweet.

heres a link to a zip folder

just burn the video_ts and audio_ts folders directly to DVD and it should work in any player. let me know if you have any problems.

Tomorrow, there will be brats and burgers and beer at the Buccaneer.
Somewhere arond 2:30.
We hope to stream. We'll try to stream.
But parking lot in the back is a ridiculous customer for trying to find a free signal with wireless (Oh Sees almost didn't happen today).
Otherwise, we're good back at the World Famous Hi-Tone tomorrow at 9:00.
Good night.

did Elvis ever go to the Circle K and buy a cheeseburger dog?
Posted: Sep 24, 2010 1:02 pm
How did the stream look last night? We're using HD cams this year, and it looks fantastic from the viewfinder, but I thought it seemed a little dark when I looked at it from the streaming software window. What did y'all think?
Posted: Sep 24, 2010 1:22 pm
didn't seem dark to me just a little far away...I understand you're trying to get a full shot of the stage and everybody on it though

I only saw the first two bands but it looked good
Posted: Sep 24, 2010 1:28 pm
Connection here at the buc is shady as fuck, but we'll try to bring it to you.
Staying off the board to preserve bandwidth, so tell your friends.
Posted: Sep 24, 2010 1:28 pm
The back camera has two competing missions: to get the "safe", long shot for when the two cams up front don't have anything worth using during editing, and feeding the internet stream. We try to vary the shot enough to keep it interesting to the folks back home, but there are times when you've just got to go with the long shot. The little screen y'all are watching works much better with close-ups, while a bigger screen like a full TV make the long shots look more cinematic rather than just confoundingly small. The best compromise last night was Super Wild Horses, because there were just two of them and they were close together. Also, they were super hot chicks.

Yes, but I don't remember...I think you can right-click on it and choose "Whole Screen" or something like that.

right click

I have tried everything to get is to stream (on Mac and PC) = no luck. FUCK. My plans for the weekend were to stare at my computer and pretend I was there. Now I actually have to find something to do with myself.

We couldn't get a solid signal at the Bucc. Only got it to stream a couple times briefly in between bands. But it would drop out quickly.

Tonight will be solid!

in honor of gonerfest the PORCH HONKEES did a reunion, it was supposed to stream, but apparently technical difficulties prevented that, so here it is on youtube, when theres a couple minutes between bands or at the end of the night if you want to hear a couple more songs, check it out!!!

Thank you for the broadcast. You have no idea what it meant to me to watch Guitar Wolf live.

ok, this is just my perception of things, and it may have been different in person with a louder guitar, but here is my take. first of all, the new bass wolf is no billy. part of guitar wolf's image was always the greaser look, and greasers dont have long scraggly hair and goatees. obviously guitar wolf was never about expert musicianship, but in my opinion seji's extreme antics were perfectly balanced by a rock solid foundation of toru and billys rhythm work. the new bass wolf is just too over the top, he hits tons of raw open E notes at the wrong times, and plays so hard his bass is always out of tune. its hard to imagine a band that has always basically been a cartoon becoming a caricature of itself, but that is how i see it. they have always been derivative of themselves, but this takes it to a new level in my opinion. personally, i liked it when a song or two were long and drawn out with incomprehensible screaming, when it becomes the majority of songs it is tiresome. i love kick out jams as much as anyone, but i dont want it to be every one of their songs, i couldve done without all the dragged out endings in favor of playing more songs. i mean, godspeed you guitar wolf, i hope you fuckers play until you are in your 70s, but come on. every time i look over i wish it was billy standing there, and i imagine its the same for toru and seji. i am a longtime fan of the band and i mean all this in the best possible way, and i wasnt there, and i appreciate the streaming and being able to see it at all of course, but i am just calling it like i see it. i loved everything through their last record with billy and i was totally excited when i heard they found a replacement and were going to continue, but as i watched the youtube videos of their new songs i was less and less interested. i guess what i am trying to say is that as cool as it is to see them still up there doing it, it is also a painful reminder of how great they once were, i used to look forward to hearing new songs but now i am only excited to hear the old ones. whatever, we are all changing, growing and time keeps on going, i feel bad for passing judgment on a band i have loved for so long, who knows, maybe (probably) i am wrong. i have mixed feelings to say the least. i wasnt looking for a billy clone and the new guy does have lots of youthful enthusiasm, but it just doesnt feel like the right fit to me. shit i guess, keep it going forever if thats what they want to do, more power to them. here's hoping next time i see or hear from them they knock me the fuck out, figuratively that is. cheers goner, and sorry for the rant.

i rant with a tasty bowl of nugz and a party keg of oktoberfest beer and of course am having a great time! GW was exactly what i expected having seen plenty of recent youtube clips of them. i agree they never crossed the line of annoying or boring, it was totally entertaining and i love them. seji was always sloppy, but billy and toru were always shit tight. i do think the bass was sloppy tonight. and, i also agree NBT totally upped the game, they are an incredible force even though their singer has one of the most annoying stage prancing routines, ever. destroy oh boy is still one of my favorite LPs. armitage shanks i enjoy on record but live they came across as mediocre to me.
