Where's the muzak? Even their myspace page doesn't have muzak. Since this says "Metal Thread", been listening to Serpentcult "Weight of Light", heavy crushing guitars contrasted with nice chickie poo vocals.

Dug up a copy of war and pain, 25 years since it came out and still nothing else like it. They are back together and touring, with blacky back on bass. Piggy's guitar student is playing as he is supposedly the only one that knows the weird ass tunings. Wish they would come to Memphis.

I thought newstead was playing bass? maybe not live.

they are playing sxsw. motorhead too.

Repugnant's " Epitome of Darkness" is in constant rotation @ Hades headquarters. the track "Eating from a coffin" rules, and The "Down in Flames" canon explosion @ the the end of side b really drives the whole record home. Looking forward to the release of Vomitor's "Devil's Poison" on vinyl.

Been making my tinnitus worse the past couple of days with Decapitated-The Negation, nicely done Polish death metal.
Posted: Mar 16, 2010 10:32 pm
Dowloaded a Ledenkampf album out of boredom - what you'd expect from a Polish satanic skinhead band wearing Lederhosen. Kinda like Finntroll if they were Nazis. At least they corpsepaint their bare legs.
Posted: Mar 17, 2010 2:16 am
Ventor is channelling power.
Posted: Mar 17, 2010 9:04 am
the whole satanic skinhead thing kinda takes some punch form the music...I mean hating jews is so last century...I mean jews are funny, Larry David is a funny mofo...lotsa hot jewish chicks also. Also, for the most part Nazi's are pussies. Also, I dont wanna hear some stupid politics in my metal...I mean Danny Lilker fucked up Nuclear Assault with that stupid shit. Hitler was a vegetarian. Enough said.
Posted: Mar 17, 2010 9:54 am
Dan Lilker is Nuclear Assault. Lilker Rules!
As far as Satanic Skinheads ever hear Blasphemy, and you know what the main guitarist is a black dude. Hebrew bashing is the same as Christian smashing it's religion. Beliefs that are fucking with my way of life. Enough with the sheep. Fuck politics and religion.

Coexist more like co-extinction. All these religious bumfucks are gonna keep repeating the same damn cycle, cuz they're too dumb and stubborn. Fighting over the same sand pyle. I Realized at a young age what a bunch of shit it all is being raised Catholic. At least my folks didn't mess with my Rock-n-Roll, like some of my friends parents. No Christian burial for me, thank you. Fuck the hypocrisy! I gotta blast some Sarcofago to free my mind.

There's so much good old metal out there. What's kind of cool about it is you could play it for alot of general young metal fans, and they get all pissed off and scream "that's not metal!"....I love that. Even the older guys that were casual fans in the 80's.

Metal is one of those genre's that got over defined to the point where it basically means nothing as an adjective, pretty much like "punk" but without the snotty pretention.

I'll have to check out Schizo.
Posted: Jul 26, 2010 2:56 pm
It's funny how things have changed over the decades. There's so much of it now and it's all so readily accessible with the Internet. I remember at the turn of the eighties, at least in Memphis, finding a new metal band to listen to at a record store was like mining for diamonds. Then in 1984 the Record Bar at the Mall of Memphis had what was probably the first exclusively heavy metal vinyl section in the city. That was like ground zero for us metal heads. It's funny though how you think you know so much about vintage metal then someone comes along with a band you've never heard of from way back in the day. Like Powertrip for example. One obscure underrated album was More "Blood and Thunder". They were a NWOBHM band and that album was brutally heavy for 1982.

Posted: Jul 26, 2010 3:26 pm
while I still like alot of the music I just can't stand the vocals anymore

Innumerable Forms is a classic case of this...the music is awesome, but it could be so much better with a Bon Scott on vocals

Posted: Jul 27, 2010 12:01 am
Well if we're going to talk about Satan & NWOBHM, wouldn't be proper to not mention Brian Ross's other band,

I think that song was created as them having fun with the riff from Focus's Hocus Pocus. They ended up turning it into a real metal song which went on to become a nwobhm classic. I love this old school metal shit before there were a bazillion bands doing the cookie cutter cookie monster vocals thing and saturated with too much of the same old same old. Too many unoriginal death metal and boring goth metal bands (some are Ok but a lot are insomnia cures). I know I sound like a geezer pineing for the good 'ol days. There was something fun and dare I say magic about the English metal explosion back then. They had a lot of that DIY ethic so normally associated with punk.

Listening to metal when it's hot is kind of like waiting behind an idling bus at a stop light.

That's why God made beer. He had the prescience to know that eventually metal heads would need beer to help keep them cool in the summer so it was created hundreds of years in advance so that by the time metal was born not only would the art of brewing have been basically perfected but refrigerators and ice chests would be there to insure utmost coolness of the beverage for head banging repose. So, the next time you're enjoying a nice cold one, thank God for metal.

Posted: Aug 2, 2010 4:20 pm
That Overkill cover absolutely sucks in any era. And that singer (Bobby?) was like the Kip Winger of thrash. Awful.
Posted: Aug 2, 2010 7:06 pm
I respectfully disagree. I think Bobby was a fine thrash vocalist back in the day and the "Taking Over" album shredded both in a guitar and vocals sense. If I were going to ascribe Kip Winger status to a thrash vocalist I would pick Joey Belladonna as the top runner, but that's just my opinion and we all know the story about opinions.

Mission accomplished?

DevilDriver has always been a band on a three-pronged mission: Work hard, rock harder, and kick as many asses as possible in the process.

Since first forming in 2003, the Santa Barbara metal quintet has stuck resolutely to this mission, even though it's often meant traveling a rougher, less glamorous road than most musicians would prefer to endure. Rather than cashing in on the popularity of his previous successes, frontman Dez Fafara (formerly of Coal Chamber) insisted from the get-go that DevilDriver should not only forge their own unique sound, but should also start at the proverbial bottom of the bill and work their way up through endless touring, earning the music world's respect one fan at a time.

Hello there, all you metal'rs. Just wondering, which of these fine acts is "CAN'T MISS" on this year's Summer Slaughter tour? It'd be helpful if you could tell me WHY they're a "can't miss". Thks.

Cephalic Carnage! Can't miss cause they RULE!
Vital Remains album i have is pretty good. Not sure if Glen Benton is still in the band.

Superiorly the cephalic vein passes between the deltoid and pectoralis major muscles (deltopectoral groove) and through the deltopectoral triangle, where it empties into the axillary vein.

It is often visible through the skin, and its location in the deltopectoral groove is fairly consistent, making this site a good candidate for cannulation. It is often referred to as the 'House-man's Friend' for this reason and is generally a good place for cannulaton when a large bore cannula needs to be sited.

Man, that's admirable. Not just anyone can "listen" to Hellhammer. I even have trouble sitting through them. I vegged on Celtic Frost's Morbid Tales yesterday, but Hellhammer takes balls. It's like getting a tooth drilled and an enema at the same time.

um, do none of you really listen to new metal?

I am admittedly behind. It's like one of those things I mean to catch up on but never get around to. I think the most recent new metal band I've listened to was Serpentcult.

I thought that was a great article, btw.

My how the audience has evolved over the years. Us vintage metalheads in the early eighties were anything but "graceful, welcoming, and gentle."

Anyone know a site that has a good thorough breakdown of seminal metal releases listed chronologically by year? I'm looking for lists from the NWOBHM era to the turn of the century, basically a twenty year span from 1980 to 2000. I know about BNR metal and Encyclopedia Metallum but they don't have the breakdown I''m looking for. Basically every important or worthwhile metal release from that time period listed under its year i.e. 1980, then a 1981 list etc.

But then again, I'm a Mayhem, Celtic Frost, Triptykon, Satyricon, that kind of music guy, so no offense, I don't like "pig squeel" vocals, and the sword are boring. If you want "good" down tempo metal, I suggest Morne or Dark Castle.

Husband is currently obsessed with Deathspell Omega.
I would take Thrones over Triptykon any day of the week...

Evil Blood "Midnight in Sodom" Croatian Thrash Metal circa 82-86.
Buried In Time and Dust Put all their demos on one glorious slab. One of the best Thrash demos Ive ever heard.
