"Symptom of the Universe" is hands down the coolest Black Sabbath song, IMHO. "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath" and "Children of The Grave" are up there, too.

I've always thought the first Sabbath record would have been cooler had they had a bigger budget/more time, a la "Paranoid". Well, they re-recorded some of that shit a few years ago, of course.....and it sucks! I have no idea why i'm even typing this.

I like to imagine how cool it must have been to have been them playing when they were just starting out and harshing all them damn dirty hippies "mellow".
Posted: Dec 25, 2004 3:01 am
yeah, but it would suck if you were being them now.
Posted: Dec 25, 2004 3:39 am
they are definately NOT aging too gracefully for sure.
Posted: Dec 25, 2004 4:28 am
Sabbath are alot cooler when you think of them in light of the time period in which they exsisted, but you also gotta think: VU, Stooges, and MC5 were all around at around the same time. So I dunno.......

never say die

never say die

That's the Sabbath song that starts out with the lyrics "Guess who just got back today? Those wild eyed boys that've been away" isn't it? Never say die is just a sped up version of boys are back in town, which had been an international smash two years earlier. Even the second song on the NSD album has a guy named Johnny in the title, and lizzy sings about a guy named Johnny in boys are back. I think Sabbath were either intentionally or unconsciously ripping off Thin Lizzy on that one. There's nothing on the Never Say Die album worth the poop on the bottom of Ronnie James Dildo's boot on the next two sabbath albums. Sorry, but I had to get that out of my system. I've been on a sabbath discography binge and I realized that about that song the other day. Now I'm on a Deep Purple binge listening to Glen Hughes destroy that band like he did sabbath with the exception of Come Taste The Band.

Anyway, I was running around in a parallel universe the other day and brought back a recording of Paranoid as recorded in that other reality. Listen to the lyrics and you'll know I'm telling the truth.
Posted: Jun 6, 2013 1:55 am
There's also yet another reality where they are known as Black Savoy instead of Black Sabbath and have a guy named Dave as their vocalist. True...all true.

Got my hands on the new sabbath album last night (well not the actual vinyl but you know what I mean) and I was pleasantly surprised. It did not sound like Ozzy's solo stuff but a lot like the first two sabbath albums with a bit more modern production, the old heavy doom style. It should please old school sabbath fans but might sound like self parody to some, and maybe it is to a degree but I quite like what I heard.

The new Black Sabbath album has gone to #1 on the Billboard charts. Love the irony of this article being on the Christian Science monitor. Is this the first doom metal album to top the charts?

"sabbath bloody sabbath" is one of my favorites. "war pigs" is an obvious early monster.
