Goner Message Board / ???? / another guitar tone question
Posted: Jan 25, 2010 8:15 pm

so i've got this guitar that is called a mosrite (?), and i kinda want a lap slide, but i don't want to buy a lap slide, so i was thinking about cutting most of the body off except for the middle part where the strings go, and throwing away that shitty tiny neck it has and duct taping a 2x4 to the middle part and running some bailing wire up the middle, kinda like that thing jack white made.
i hope it doesn't affect the sound of the guitar too much

The International Blues Challenge was in town last week, and I learned that the sound of the guitar isn't important. The guitar player has to look like he's giving the guitar a five pint blood transfusion.

Here's a guitar tone question for y'all. Why does Keith Richards have some really really sweet sound on, say, Exile On Main street but all the live recordings from that tour his tone sounds like just a cat pissing on an AM radio speaker?

I dunno. What the hell happened when they played the superbowl? Somethin' was way fucked up.

Cat pissing on an AM radio is good tone, right?

Depending on what model it is, you could sell it and buy 10 lap steels. Don't fuck up a Mosrite, sell it to someone who wants it.
Posted: Jan 26, 2010 10:18 am

I'll cut most of your body off!
Posted: Jan 26, 2010 10:34 am

scott, do you think i could produce a cool tone with, say, a femur?

i'll buy the fucking thing rather than you chop it up.

I say you glue a pickup to a stuffed badgers belly, and tie a string from it's jawbone to it's back feet.....

You're a fucking idiot

Y'know, now that I think about it-it may be a good tone. Maybe not exactly the crappy live Keith has on most live bootlegs.

What's so idiotic about making a guitar out of a taxidermied animal? I hear that's all Ted Nugent plays anymore. How come Jack White can make a guitar out of his moms peg leg and that's considered not as stupid? You are the idiot.

Almost as good as what somebody did to Mike Bloomfield's Telecaster, the guitar heard on "Like a Rolling Stone".

This really the same guitar?

i think that was directed at me?

i'll have a photo up of my new creation soon

It's gonna sound pretty cool when I rip your leg off at the hip and use your own Femur to pummel you up side of the head. So I guess the answer would be yes.

That Mosrite idea was funny.
But way too comercial.

Just nail a guitar string to both sides of a mop stick, fasion a bridge out of a flattened dog food can, and use the playback head STILL HOOKED UP from a portable casette tape recorder for the pickup. Get a 1/4 inch adaptor jack for the headphones auxiliary, and whamm-o jamm-o. You've got the punkest slide guitar in the state of Utah!

happy feedbacking

i'm more interested in that stack of mcintosh components behind the lego guitar.
Posted: Jan 27, 2010 2:07 pm

Yr not an idiot deadcityrebel, I think you should make a slide out of your mosrite....I don't see why anybody else should care.

Just like I should be able to make a stuffed raccoon into a lap steel.

Woh! My friend just got that Macintosh preamp and main....they're still soild state but a step up from mine...the guy who designed most of the Macintosh recievers believes that they basicaly all the sound the same however. I don't understand what those other things are for, maybe a radio or something....it's 200 watts, I just don't need that kind of wattage for one.

Holy shit, that guy has a studer 1/2 inch reel to reel or some shit.....

My buddy will have a picture of his setup on the termbo site in a couple weeks...his paradigm speakers don't realy do the components justice though....so he says.
Posted: Jan 27, 2010 2:58 pm

me neither, but still. i'm pretty happy with the marantz i found
Posted: Jan 27, 2010 3:20 pm

It's a McIntosh 2205...it looks like he has one main and two pres...I speculate that one of the pre's is for each reel to reel, and then the silver thing on the bottom is probbably some sort of compressor.

Well I'm satisfied with that deduction...I'll sleep soundly tonight.

Hey, I was trying to help the dude out. If he doesn't value the Mosrite, there are plenty who do. What's wrong with selling it and buying a lap steel and 100 Whoppers with the extra dough?

agreed. i'm not a huge fan of them and like vox guitars they don't sound that great and don't play well. i'm sure some japanese mop top in a paisley button down will buy it from you top dolla!

I guess your sarcasm detector wasn't turned on, then again you were baited, carney. I believe that was the purpose of the whole thread.

At least J.R. had the sense to replace the bridge pickup with a superstrat.

Hey around here anything is possible. I've seen stupider shit proposed with a completely straight face. I hope the pickguard thread was a joke, too, but I don't think it was. Or do I?

Stupid joke

Pickguard question was real and not at all ridiculous

You're a true dumbass for thinking that this thread was real

Go jack off on your Rickenbacker. I was trying to help DCR, you I was making sport of.

It really depends on what model/year it is. There are some great Mosrites and some pretty shitty ones. They have been made by about dozen different manufacturers over the years both here and in Japan. There are even "non-authorized" Mosrites made by employees that are amazing. If you have
a Mosrite made by Semie Mosrite himself, then you probably have a fine guitar. Unless someone put a wood pickguard on it and destroyed it's tone.

Yea I think that goes without saying, dipshit

Don't you think that anyone that wants to build their own lap-slide guitar knows what a Mosrite is? Duct Taping a 2x4? Idiot

Note: I'm only giving you shit in retaliation...you felt stupid (understandably) and decided to pick a target on which to load off some of your embarrassment.

If you were from Memphis it wouldn't affect you.
Some black females (I'd estimate 20%) have that over the top, high drama, entitlement quality.

Oh yeah, and if you say anything about it, they play the race card.
Linda stopped caring a loooong time ago.
