New York -- Years of war, bad government, corruption and poverty have left Afghanistan with the highest infant mortality rate in the world, according to UNICEF. More than one out of every five children are dead by the time they are five.

Good to see someone's doing something about over population.

Yeah, Obama has been a tremendous disappointment. Anybody with a wife and kids that could wage war on poor innocent women and children is very sick. He's lost his soul if he ever had one to begin with. I'm glad people like Howard Dean and Tom Hayden are turning against him. I heard some congresswoman from California on the news last night talking about how great he's been. I want some of what she's on.

we've apparently reached the point where our only choices are a feckless grandstander who "means well" (aka Obama), or some straight up sociopathic morons who think the earth is 6000 years old and wants super-Jesus to come down and smite brown people and libruls (aka GOP)

USA! USA! USA! USA!

I'm not even bothering to mention how he's providing zero leadership on health care reform and just wants to get it over with without actually providing affordable health care to anybody but the poor and rich (who already have free health care) or how he's doing absolutley nothing about the economy and jobs creation. He's basically just enjoying a nice 4 year vacation on our tax dollars. Pretty sad. Maybe we should all just quit our jobs and go on SSI, Welfare and Medicaid. Probably be better off than getting up to go to work every morning.

Imagine if we had McCain/Palin? We'd be in a depression and we'd be at war with Iran. Can the people ever win?

its only been a year. give the guy some time. we will be at war with iran soon enough.

Military force would have only limited effect in stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons but must remain an option, the top U.S. military officer said Monday.

"Tehran shows no signs of backing down in the standoff over what the United States and other countries say is its drive for a nuclear bomb," Adm. Mike Mullen, the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told his staff in an annual assessment of the nation's risks and priorities.

The United States has given Iran an informal deadline of the end of the year to demonstrate that it is seriously willing to discuss its nuclear program.

sounds like even mccain wouldnt quite be ready to invade iran...

On Monday, Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona voiced support for attempting economic pressure against Iran before considering military action, but warned that time was slipping.

both parties are the same. the results are the same.

Ha! No, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - and according to the economists we're not in a depression. Supposedly coming out of a recession.

Pretty much how I feel. I pretty much feel like a subject, not a participating citizen. Whichever way I vote, the result is that the people who have the power are the ones making the decisions anyway. USA is about as rigged as a WWE match.

Why don't we get to play a part in deciding what health care we want? Whoever is in Washington representing me and voting for me never came to my house or called my phone. Stupid jerk.

i agree, for the most part. these guys don't really give a fuck about the regular folks. and trust me, if they did and were trying to actually do something about it, these pathetic little "socialist" accusations being lobbed at Obama wouldn't come close to the massive smear campaigns big corps would implement.

the only thing I can say with little doubt is that an Obama or a Gore or hell, even possibly a John McCain would have NEVER gone to war against Iraq in 2002. they just wouldn't have done it. for all their faults, none of those guys are (a) completely retarded and (b) so fucking smug that they would COMPLETELY disregard years of intel and the recommendations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and various other high level military leaders.

it's also highly unlikely that any of those three would have pushed for imprudent tax cuts right after 9/11 (just before mounting a two-front war with no exit strategy and no end in sight) when the shape of the economy to come was anyone's guess.

we will be dealing with the massive lack of judgment, foresight and prudence of the Bush admin for decades to come. believe that.

and John McCain (the REAL John MCCain, not that neutered douche who bowed to evangelical nutjobs and picked a drooling moron as a running mate in '08) could have very well have been the GOP nom in 2000, if not for Bush's campaign using push polling to torpedo McCain's campaign. South Carolina voters were asked "Would you be more likely or less likely to vote for John McCain for president if you knew he had fathered an illegitimate black child?" The poll's allegation was entirely baseless, but was heard by boatloads of primary voters in the south... McCain and his wife had in fact adopted a Bangladeshi girl.
