I remember when the folks down the road got cable. Must've been 1976 or 1977. It was the first time I saw myself on TV, cuz the access channel played a taping of our whole school singing the Candy Man or some shit.

I'd like to forget meister brau. And Alf too, saw an episode on WGN the other day, man that show sucked.

Remember the day, remember the play, remember the way we used to say "di-di-di-da-di-di-di-di-di-da-di-dey".

Do you remember? I hope you do, I'm sure you do."
still trying to find something by The Rockafellas - who I only know of by way of Die Toten Hosen covering "Do You Remember" any leads? Videos floating around on the web?

New Wave Theater with host Peter Ivers? That show introduced me to the Angry Samoans.

Peter Ivers was later murdered by some nazi skins in Hollywood.

You know what doesn't hold up now, tho everybody watched it back in the day? The Cosby Show.

I happened upon a rebroadcast about a month ago. Tough sledding.

I do think Cosby was a great comic, and I know this show was a massive success, but wow.

OH, god, yeah WGN used to play Cosby like 5 times a day. I had to sit and wonder "Do Chicago people really still like this shit?"

TV REALLY sucked in the 80s, didn't it. Another steamer is Newhart. The other bosom buddy and that Julia Duffy wrecked that show!

Newhart was great in the couple of Desperate Housewives episodes he appeared in, tho.

people who would tape every movie they showed on broadcast tv and had a wall of vhs tapes?

dude, those people were the worst.

Never taped movies, but I DID find an old VHS tape from 1985 or so:

MTV blues documentary with John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Willie Dixon playing live with George Thorogood hosting. Yes, the same MTV that's morphed into "Who'll Fuck My Mom?" Thorogood was the price you had to pay...

BET live showcase with Koko Taylor, BB King, that sort of thing. They did that every night back then. Blues and Reggae bands

Plus Night Flight. TV in the 80s did NOT suck if you had cable. Shit is so different now.

I love people that taped every movie on HBO. Scored a VHS in the trash the other day with Tron, Time Bandits and D.A.R.Y.L. on it.

...mike tyson on espn being awarded and honorary doctorate of humanities from central state university and when he took the stage to give his speech he began " I don't know what kind of doctor I am, but watching all of these beautiful sisters here today, I'm debating whether I should be a gynecologist."

teevee in thee 8tees rooled!

Night Music. Residents and Conway Twitty sharing the stage. Genius.

Also the one with the Pixies, Al Green, and Sun Ra.

I saw this!

Also David Sanborn jamming with Sonic Youth. That was pretty surreal.

Don Fleming played keyboards with SY on that show.

I'm glad I had friends with cable. Night Flight did make 80s TV bearable on the weekends.
Huge Radio 1990 addict, too.

can't forget Yanni on back up vocals.

Psycho Fred? That time he tricked those losers into thinking he had all that rare musical equipment was hilarious. And the time he was gonna go to Goner on the weekend to play video games but never showed. Psycho Fred rules!

All I remember is trying to watch movies through the fuzz on cable channels we didn't have.

That 16 year old kid who recorded the first Hipshakes single was one of the greatest Punk producers of all time. He's probably some accountant in training somewhere now.

Yes! And if you had satellite you always got caught cause those porn channels were up in the 300's with a hundred and something channels of static between them and the last working channel.

I've made that desperate mad dash on the channel down button many times.

Horny 5th grader, I was. Tech-savvy on a remote bigger than my head, I was not.

Kids these days have it easy.

Woulda been Galaxy 3 Transponder 15 for American Exstacy unscrambled. Not that I had any reason to remember that.

i could get it in pretty good with my old tv that had dials on it, the little fine tuning knob around the channel one. i would go to the channel before or after it (2 or 4) and fine tune up or down, that usually worked the best.
