Anyone seen her play lately? She's gonna be at Drive-Invasion this year?

haven't seen her, but she's coming here this september.
she's playing a small old-school tavern, 100 people max.... should be amazing!

I've seen her around three times in the last ten years. The last time was around 5 or 6 years ago... She was great! Her voice sounds almost the same, with a little rasp here and there and she mostly sticks to what she knows her fans want to hear. A few gospel numbers thrown in for good measure and it's a show.

as much as i love her, she's not so good. she does have the same voice, but i dont think she exactly remembers her songs. she should go back and listen to the original recordings. in fact, i wish alot of older artists would do that, its like theyve played it so often over the years it slowly evolves into something else.

Eh, I've seen her a few times, and I thought she was really good. The only problem is her Christian crap, where she tells a story about being "saved" and then launches into a borin' long "I Saw the Light."

i have to admit, i do love that song

Posted: Aug 4, 2009 5:42 pm
yeah, i saw her around 5/6 years ago and thought it was great except for the christian stuff, i think it helped that it was a great memphis band backing her

I caught her a few years ago (2006?) and thought $20 for a bar / club show was a little high-- but my friend dragged me along and I didn't regret it. I don't recall if she did the boring xtian schtick because I was too busy indulging in sinful booze and other substances.

but yeah, her voice is still great and it was about 100x more entertaining than I expected.

heres a recent wanda jackson vid, not bad...

James Burton played with her at the Stomp. That was pretty great.

She's either great or terrible depending on who's backing her. She doesn't have her own band. She picks up bands for tours or specific shows. Greta band=great show!

I liked the Elvis stories....

Who cares if she is going to be great or not, it's Drive-Invasion!!!!! Bummed it's only one day this year but it looks like fun line-up. I can't wait, just hope this isn't the last.

I think by boiling it down to one day it helped to get the original vision back on track somewhat. To me, this is gonna be the best one day in recent Drive-Invasion history. I'd lost interest the past few years. How they're gonna pull of and who's gonna stay for six movies though, I don't know . . .

Does he know you as Carney? Will do!

Penetrators just melted the asphalt and made it surfable, with a little help from some good friends! RIP, Rip and Spanky!

Tell him it's Rick from Gravy Boat, thanks!

Wanda was great, totally worth it! Lots of great performances yesterday, with the exception of The Detroit Cobras who have once again lived up to their reputation of being lazy complainers with no inerest in actually entertaining.

Carney, Jim says get your ass in a band and play next year!

I'm working on it!

As always, one of my favorite events of the year. I'll have to agree with you on the Cobras, could have gone with some more GoDevils instead. Still can't get the image of Shane sucking somebodies toes while playing out of my head. My two oldest kids get grief from the other kids at school for not being into the same shit music they listen to. My babies loved Wanda Jackson. Great day for sure!
