Good news! I was starting to think no one was coming to Detroit other than Craig Daniels, and an assortment of my Toronto friends.

And maybe my brother.
Posted: Jun 19, 2009 8:56 am
There's going to be a pretty heavy Toronto contingent coming down...at least 20-25 people from who I've talked to about it.
Posted: Jun 19, 2009 9:02 am
someone get a good picture of Greg playing the amp we built for him at this show!!!
Posted: Jun 19, 2009 11:15 am
junior, when i was looking last week i think the motor city casino had the cheapest rooms but they were all in the same range.
Posted: Jun 19, 2009 4:10 pm
What the hell is this "Detroit" you speak of?
Posted: Jun 19, 2009 6:16 pm

Comment about the Doubletree/Fort Shelby from hotels.com:

This hotel was very nice. The beds were very comfortable and we went to a wings game and it was right down the road from it. The only thing that I didnt like was that we found some old torn underwear behind the door to the bedroom...a little weird. but we called and someone came right up. Also the room service was a bit pricey. But the room itself was very good for the price i paid.

This patron must not have seen The Thing remake or he would have been watching his back for Wilford Brimley to put his fucking hand in his mouth and drag his shit away in the snow.

I think that we might stay at a casino. Drink. Fight. Fuck. Gamble.
Posted: Jun 23, 2009 8:38 pm
Are you guys getting a hotel?
Posted: Jun 23, 2009 9:04 pm
If we can find a casino with the Star Wars slot machine I might not need a to sleep. And if the party store across from the Magick Stick still has Lazer quarts I might eat a dog's brain. I feel like eatin a bag of BBQ'd broke legs.

Casino. Not sure which one. Have only been inside the Motor City one once.

Gories in the Metro Times.
Posted: Jun 24, 2009 10:01 pm
Hey Driver, one big question:

Tunnel or bridge?
It's been a while!

PS - We're staying at the Corktown Inn and we get the added bonus of a Baptist convention staying there too over the weekend.
Posted: Jun 24, 2009 10:05 pm
I had tickets and travel plans and everything, but am now not going. Taking care of my mom instead.

Trying not to bum out too hard. (Or worry too much) See you at GF6 instead, hopefully.
Posted: Jun 24, 2009 11:38 pm
Mania all over Detroit for cynical types saying "It wont sell out" now that they don't have tickets.
Posted: Jun 25, 2009 1:21 am
Im riding my bike. be there in about 6 hours. GOnna take the Battle Creek Linear bike trail straight into Wayne county. Punk Rock is serious buisness.
Posted: Jun 25, 2009 9:11 am
Craig - that's a tough call - it depends on time of day/week (and downtown events), but Friday evenings the tunnel is usually a recipe for sitting in line with the TGIF crowd. The bridge has truck traffic, and there's construction on both sides of the bridge, but at least there's more than one lane each way. I dunno ... I say bridge.

As for the Corktown Inn, that sounds about right. I'll bet they don't even put you on the same floor.

Are most of you staying at the Doubletree? It looks to be the best deal I can find online, but I want to know if anyone has found something better.

Check this out---$82 including taxes/fees, 1.6 miles from the Majestic, and looks pretty decent:

Thanks to Chicago Kevin for pointing this out.

Thanks, Rob!
Posted: Jun 25, 2009 8:36 pm

Posted: Jun 25, 2009 9:33 pm
if anyone needs tickets, plz let me know. fml.
Posted: Jun 25, 2009 11:53 pm

You could always cross at the Blue Water Bridge @ the Sarnia/Port Huron border. Average time seems to be a bit quicker....but make sure you have yr paperwork in order first.

if anyone needs tickets, plz let me know. fml.

I totally know how you feel. :-(

Average time seems to be a bit quicker....

- how's the construction on 94? (last time I drove that route there were stretches down to one lane)
Posted: Jun 26, 2009 1:31 pm
Posted: Jun 26, 2009 3:01 pm
The construction is out in the sticks areas between Port Huron and 23 mile. Going into Detroit from Port Huron shouldn't be all that bad (unless it's the morning rush but that doesn't even exist as much as it once did with less commuters heading down to Big 3 jobs). I've done it a few times the past couple of weeks and had no delays.
Posted: Jun 26, 2009 4:04 pm

There are two seasons in Michigan: Winter and Construction

Posted: Jun 27, 2009 6:07 pm
Congrats on Oblivians / Gories selling 1000 tickets tonight in Detroit!

Thats a long way from the Continental yo!

kevin, do you still have a ticket available???

Posted: Jun 28, 2009 3:18 pm
Both bands killed it last night. One of the best shows I've seen in quite some time.
Posted: Jun 28, 2009 5:41 pm
Fuckin great...
Thunderbird ESQ, Nitroglycerine and That's the View From Here were so good it was kinda nuts.
In short, amazing.
Posted: Jun 28, 2009 6:01 pm
The Oblivians came out on fire. Hit it hard and strong from song one on in. The Gories picked up momentum as their set went on. Halfway through their set they were like a locomotive. Mick's voice was still a little rough but Dan was a star that held it all together. Fucking awesome show.

Video from Detroit

Motorcycle Leather Boy

more getting posted soon.

I think I saw you. I meant to introduce myself but then I forgot.

Yes - awesome show. I was totally unprepared for Detroit's too cool for school attitude and lack of outward enthusiasm, but I still had a great time.
Posted: Jun 28, 2009 10:16 pm
oh, and totally unprepared for Peg to have any idea who I was.

Pop tarts are my new favorite hors d'oeuvre
Posted: Jun 28, 2009 10:24 pm
Posted: Jun 28, 2009 10:29 pm
"Ghost Rider"? Holy shit!

That killed! Peg laughing then mouthing something to Danny that looked like "What are you doing?!" All that sound/noise/boogie. Amazing!!!
Posted: Jun 29, 2009 12:02 am
I remember that part, that was great.

I loved how Peg would casually cross her legs during songs. So cool.

Thanks for the kind words on the photos. I'd like to think it makes up for me being the asshole with the giant camera right at the front.

great pictures! of the gories at least, ha!
What can I say? The Gories were more photogenic on Saturday.
Posted: Jun 29, 2009 12:00 pm

Also, the version of Memphis Creep was a highlight for me, too...
Posted: Jun 29, 2009 1:43 pm
Those shots rule Alex.

Where's all the Gories vids so far? I wanna relive the whole thing!
Posted: Jun 29, 2009 1:55 pm
Classy Craig! Great to see ya! Missed Meg White, so you were my celebrity sighting!

I only got one Gories video because my battery was dying. I'll post it soon...
Posted: Jun 29, 2009 3:15 pm
Peg's kick drum sounds great! Also dig the new bass player. How's Margaret taking all this?
Posted: Jun 29, 2009 3:32 pm
I wasn't up front anymore, but the sound is still decent.

Thunderbird ESQ
