i'm booked that entire month. take the fridge with you.
Posted: Mar 26, 2009 5:58 pm
Probably bring a special bottle or two along, but the fridge is on its own. One of my favorite things about the Majestic/Magic Stick/Sgt. Pepperoni's is that there's a brewery a 5-minute walk away.
Posted: Mar 26, 2009 6:41 pm

Posted: Mar 27, 2009 2:31 pm
I'm in the clear...

In general, if you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to breastfeed. Less than 2% of the alcohol consumed by the mother reaches her blood and milk. Alcohol peaks in mom's blood and milk approximately 1/2-1 hour after drinking (but there is considerable variation from person to person, depending upon how much food was eaten in the same time period, mom's body weight and percentage of body fat, etc.). Alcohol does not accumulate in breastmilk, but leaves the milk as it leaves the blood; so when your blood alcohol levels are back down, so are your milk alcohol levels.

sixer of Henry's Private Reserve.
Double Deuce of Ninkasi Spring Reign Ale.

Sometimes Henry's PR ultimately hits the spot right after work. I had two of them, then..

I tore into the Ninkasi, drinkin' it straight out the bottle. Generally unimpressed by the couple of other Ninkasi brews I've tried, I'm totally in love with Spring Reign. Makes me wanna hug the hippies that I imagine brew the stuff.

I can HIGHLY recommend the Left Hand Brewing Company Twin Sisters Double IPA Ale that comes in a 28oz. big bottle...come with a champagne style cork...bad ass...9.6% alcohol....extremely hoppy...only available at a liquor store due to the high alcohol content. VERY nice.
Posted: Dec 10, 2009 10:29 am
Izzat Colorado laws?

Wonder what the liquor laws are around here. I can get DFH 120-Minute which is 18% at a regular ol' beer/wine store.

I'm poor, so made do with Thunderhead IPA last night.

Founders Backwoods Bastard...smmooovve

This has been my evening sipper of choice for the past few weeks...great stuff. That beer really is perfect for barrel aging.

Other acquisitions in the past few weeks, still waiting to be tasted:

Sierra Nevada / Dogfish Head Life and Limb
2 Brothers Heavier Handed oak-aged DIPA
Ommegang's 10th Anniversary
some Brewdog IIPA I don't remember the name of

Did anybody ever get to try that Brewdog beer with the unfortunate Radiohead-inspired name? It was a total session beer---just around 4%---that evidently had an insane hop presence. Looked for it and never found it...I'd love to drink something ridiculously hoppy without having to worry about being wasted after 2 beers...

Victory's Prima Pils is what you are looking for. Its a new one around here, lovin' it.
Posted: Dec 10, 2009 4:06 pm
two things:

Six packs in PA are ridulously expensive, in my opinion. You can get a case of yuengling for 17 bucks, but a six pack is like 8 bucks. And, you can only buy six packs at a six pack shop or a bar. Being able to buy 2 six packs for last call to go is pretty nice, though.
And, I have one Coors light in the fridge, a remnant from when some friends came by for a house warming. Not sure who brought it to be honest. I need to restock, badly.

Victory's Prima Pils is what you are looking for.

Yes and no. It's awesome, and during the past 5 years, there's probably no beer I've drank more of than that with the possible exceptions of Bell's Two Hearted and Alpha King, but it's not what I was trying to describe.

I dug around and figured out the name of that beer; it's How to Disappear Completely. (Evidently it can get much worse than a BBQ joint named Smoque.)

Prima Pils: 5.3% ABV, 44 IBU
HtDC: 3.5% ABV, 198 IBU

I'm a total lightweight and the idea of a 3.5% beer with IIPA-style hop bomb bitterness is only slightly less exciting to me than that of a green jetpack that costs $25.

YES! Their awesome scotch ale (one of the very few I really like) then aged in a bourbon barrel. Incredible.

I'd love to drink something ridiculously hoppy without having to worry about being wasted after 2 beers

Have you tried Founders Dry Hopped Pale or Short Pandemonium. They're around the 5% mark. I'm sure you could go 3 before feeling too wasted.

Prima Pils: 5.3% ABV, 44 IBU
HtDC: 3.5% ABV, 198 IBU

For some reason I always thought Prima was bit higher than ABV. Must be that hoppy sting in it. After two Primas the inside of your mouth can feel all wrinkly. I'm hoping their Wild Ale (Belgium IPA) makes it to these parts eventually.

Had a New Holland Pilgrim's Dole last week. My first wheat wine. It had a top end like a barley wine and finished like an Arrogant Bastard.

My fave NEW IPA is North Peak's Diabolical out of Traverse City, Michigan. Hoppy as all get out (A "Michigan IPA" trademark) and bit darker than usual.

I'm thinking about heading out here in a few to see what the 3 stores that carry "GOOD" beer in this town might have new in stock. Oh...I GOT beer here (Some New Holland Poet stouts, Backwoods Bastards and Shorts Pandemoniums) but hey, might find something new. Since records stores are disappearing everywhere beer store shelf spotting has taken over my crate digging habits.

Gotta love the description of the KBS:

Deep black pour, layers of roasted malt, oak, vanilla, chocolate, coffee along with strong undertones of bourbon in the aroma and taste. (11.2%)

The only beer that stays in my fridge for long is an almost full case of Miller Light...my sister got it for people helping us move in. I told her you can't give that shit away, but still it sits in our fridge untouched a year later.

Steel Reserve High Gravity

You seen Earthquake? 12% party time!!!! They call it high gravity lager, hahaha. I love code names for malt liquor and especially love malt liquors named after natural disasters!
Posted: Mar 19, 2010 4:47 pm
You seen Earthquake? 12%

I wish.
I gotta go to the Liquor store if I drink that (Memphis), and the temptation of bourbon wins out every time.

The very definition of BALLWASH.

Any, and all, Miller product. You can feel the head, floating on the roiling surface of the contents of your stomach, when you drink High Life. Blech.

Miller Light...

Girls drink that crap.

It just makes me feel bloated, with no buzz at all.
Posted: Mar 20, 2010 1:44 am
Y'all talkin' about Miller High Life Light or Lite Beer by Miller?
Posted: Mar 20, 2010 3:50 am
Mr me and Mr Useless are driikin nerd lites and Armitage Shanks. Go figger!
Posted: Apr 10, 2010 1:22 am
OK, I got a 24 of Earthquake. Tied with FOUR Loko as far as alcohol content is concerned, but tastes a little nasty after the fake watermelon flavor of the FOUR.

Think I'll put it in the freezer for 15 minutes.... I think I'll like it better than the FOUR, cuz that shit keeps me up and shit, I wanna get knocked out.

I've enjoyed times in European bars and pubs trying all those European beers...the good, the bad and the ugly. Too many Germanic and such names to even remember.

Shock Top!
followed by it's cousin Blue Moon

Big fan of Miller Lite especially the 16oz cans with the twist top. Miller Lite is my favorite Nascar beer I dont dig Bud but 30 packs of Busch Lite are never turned down. In the house now: Strohs 30 pack remains from last month, some Yeungling Lager bottles and Golden Anniversary tall cans from recent PA visit by family, a tall can of Blue Schlitz (bring on tha bull), and some Founders IPA that made the trek to Memphis and back. Big fan of macro and micro brews.

Miller High Life..... and lots of it.

OK. I got a 24oz of Game Day Ice. It has a little more aftertaste than Tecate. It better have more alcohol content, but I can't find the content anywhere on the label. Sez it's brewed in LaCrosse, WI.

Much more palatable than Earthquake, not as tasty as Tecate.

Tomorrow could be grim...

40 oz. of king cobra my father in law just gave to me.
Best Father in law EVER.
I remember those commercials used to come on during Royals games. They had to take them off the air because whitey didn't participate in the ads.

We were going through TN to a wedding a couple of years ago and I found King Cobra at a gas station in Knoxville.
You bet your red, white and blue ass I had some!!

Mark Millionaire, Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee Stout has hit your area today. You should head to Siciliano's or someplace else you trust and buy some NOW! (as should anyone else in Western Michigan).

Was out in the burbs today running an errand for work and happened upon two 2-packs of Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree. Not sure how those lasted so long, but they're in my fridge now.

Quite fond of Peroni, from Italy. Just your standard European lager, but beautifully done. Starting to see it on tap at some places.
Posted: May 4, 2010 7:12 pm | Edited by: SSSSSSS
Haven't had one since 1991 or so. Thought it tasted like poo, but in all fairness it had probably been sitting on the store shelf since 1987 or so...

I like Schlitz.

Did you know that in some cities they're marketing Schlitz Original Recipe and charging premium beer prices?

I haven't tried it, but I've seen it in KC.

Sorry I missed you this weekend, Quinn. I was in decompression mode.

likin the negra modelos lately...$26 a case at costco, great price!

Some bullshit called Tap Room No 21 pale ale. Total garbage. I am pissed.

It's really good...for a long time it was only available north of a certain street here in Chicago (Belmont Ave), but in recent months it's been made available to all Schlitz distributors city-wide.

When a gouger like Whole Foods is selling it for $3.99 a sixer, I don't think you can really say it's priced as a premium beer.
Posted: May 5, 2010 9:17 am
My mistake. I thought it was going for $6.00+
Posted: May 5, 2010 9:18 am

Our local Costco just started carrying Two Brothers variety packs for ~$27.50 (including tax). We bought a card just for that several months ago and have already made our money back.
