I think the wife and I stopped there to get food at an Arby's or something in January on the way to Wabeno.

Sheboygan is not a town I like to stop in. Back in 1995, my green 1975 Plymouth Valiant had mechanical troubles when I stopped at a McDonald's on the way back from a Milwaukee visit (wuz living in De Pere at the time) and I got stuck in that shithole town for 7 hours before help arrived. Got picked up by a friend and my dad later called his friend, a race car driver named Richard "Dick" Hed, who owned a shop nearby and fixed the problem (even though the problem reappeared a few weeks later... Thanks a lot Dick Hed! You may have know how to race modifieds on the dirt, but sure couldn't diagnose the solenoid issue with my fucking Plymouth... speaking of Plymouth, it's a much nicer Wisconsin town than fucking Sheboygan, let me tell you...). So, you know, fuck Sheboygan. It's a pit, and out of every weird story you hear on the radio about incest, murder, people getting stuck in sewers, drunks running their cars into a crowd of people at a church festival, etc... about 3/4ths of the time its outta Sheboygan, what the fuck...

I drove past/through it on my way to Door County this weekend. Was there a couple weekends ago, got drunk in its many bars. In Sheboygan, you don't "grill out" or "barbeque," you "fry out" even though no frying is involved. And this is the home of the American brat. That place is fucked!

Lots of good food there, though. Swampy, you should hit up Gosse's next time you're driving through. Supposedly the dude made the best broasted chicken anywhere and his friends kept bugging him for it so he started up a little business out of his house...but it became so popular he opened a restaurant. Haven't even had the chicken, but the steak sandwiches are amazing. All the curds and whatnot are breaded/fried fresh and delish. Also, Luigi's has killer sandwiches and good, greasy pizza.

Sheboygan.

Sheboygan is an eastern lakeshore city (Lake Michigan), so you would not have driven past it going to the Dells (west side, closer to the Mississippi).

I've never been there but I've always been a little fascinated by the name and the "magic" there.

And thanks for the Curly Howard idea Bazooka! Now I'm a REAL madcap...

Green Room, yeah. It's not a bad town to go out & get loaded in. Also, the Miesfelds or however you spell it butcher shop/sausage emporium is astounding. Aisles of fresh home-done brats, andoille, dogs, beef sticks, cheese curds, you name it. In the summer they sell beer brats in a hard roll outside the store, and they are excellent. Sheboygan brat = local (not Johnsonville) brat soaked in beer + hard roll + mustard + kraut = mmm mmm good.

Sheboygan knows how to party and that's no joke. I've never not had a good time when visiting there, however my current roommate is a former Sheboyganite who lived at a house called Dirty Fuckers Central. I've slowly reintroduced him to civilzed living but his bedroom still resembles "a shopping cart full of dirty laundry colliding with a shopping cart full of porn" (his description). I suspect such lifestyles are not merely endemic to Sheboygan, however. Also no one mentioned that the PGA Championship is returning there in a couple years! Kohler toilets are based there and Old Man Kohler is a right-wing kook but also a rich-as-fuck golf nut and has built a half dozen world-class courses around Sheboygan. Go figure.
