I was in Detroit last summer for a CWA meeting.

Time before that would've been December '05, maybe? Modey Lemon/Apes show.

Last time I was in Detroit I'm not sure if I was actually in Detroit or if it was just Ham Hammock. A year ago.

Drove down the Lodge at about 90 mph, hit JC King bookstore, paralled the high school bus line (down Cass Corridor), saw some music (forget who), marvelled at the wreckage of Highland Park, helped last old-time friend left in the city move to the 'burbs, had some sliders at the Tel-Way, recounted dead memories of the dead, felt nostalgic for a happy childhood........

last time i was in detroit, i was there simply to change planes. that was in december 08.
time before, it was 6/6/06
i saw some kinda sorta rocket 455 gig (ie: most of them were in this new un-named band) and also cuckold
mike walker left a very drunk john brannon in my care
steve nawara couldn't drive me home because of the usual no license/insurance/registration issue
i wish i could remember what kind soul shepherded me from corktown to hamtramck and then took brannon home.

Super Bowl XL, Steelers vs Seahawks.
Night before the game we went to some bar outside the city with some friends from there. I was doing a carbomb with some chicks from Chicago when one of my compatriots pulled my pants down. I finished my shot, then pulled them up. Apparently the bar all got a good view of my nuts.
The next day we watched the game and stole a life sized Hines Ward Cutout from Larry Foote's restaurant. The cutout is proudly displayed at the deli.

spent 81$ on records ( should have gone directly to Peoples Records ), ate way to many perogies at the Polish Village, went to Jim Shaw Fundraiser, and had one dollar beers at the Painted Lady, missed out going to the Tel-Way though, damn!

I think I had a layover at the airport there once back in '79. I'm not sure. Maybe I haven't even been there.

I was there for a conference in 1999. Just as the welcome speech started, about 6:00pm Saturday, the huge old Holiday Inn across the river in Windsor caught fire (insurance scam, maybe? Apparently it had been empty for some time.) It was the most spectacular fire I've ever seen - huge flaming chunks of debris breaking off the 2nd and 3rd floors and tumbling into the river...fire boats in the river...what a welcome to Detroit.

The next day I walked around and looked at some of the ruined buildings and I also went to look at the Heidelberg Project.

Damn, just heard that MI has the highest unemployment rate in the country (no big surprise, I guess). They were interviewing a Humane Society in Ann Arbor where they're getting tons of applicants w/ college degrees for the shit-shoveling job that pays under $10 an hour w/ no bennies. One was a lawyer!

i haven't been there in a number of years, but the last time i went, i ate at nikki's pizza in greektown and ate some awesome baklava from some little bakery/sweet shop. hung around at the ren center a bit too. rode on the people mover just to be moved. went to windsor for ketchup chips and kinder eggs (this is precisely what we told the people at the border too. they looked at us like we were on crack, but we were being honest). a friend of mine was djing at motor too so i went there and got drunk. that place has been closed down for years so it was quite a while since i went, obviously.

Ryan , Jelania and I rode bikes out to Bells Island and swam in this swimming hole off the main river, screamed "Hey Canada" across the main river then went to see the Reining Sound play a show for the opening of Dan Roses movie with a bunch of Detroit rockers. Super Fun!!!! I love Detroit!!

Was there last summer for a Tigers/White Sox game. Drove down Woodward towards Motor City Brewing for a couple of brews when we see zombies converging around a church, like in Carpenter's Prince Of Darkness, except these zombies didn't shoot unholy water out of their mouths. 2 zombies were pissing on the side of the church and one zombie had his head in his hands puking between his feet on the church's steps. Then after a few beers we saw Tiger Stadium with two less walls than I saw a few months before. Tourists.

Average cost of a home in Detroit is $15,000 but you can find some fixer uppers for $1 online.

Scarcely believe it now but I was just happy to be there once the prick U.S. Customs agent finally decided he was done harrassing us 'Mericans and we were allowed to re-enter our own country. Are people swimming to Windsor yet?
