It's not a bad record, that's all. NOT BAD. That's ITR highest standard these days: 'This doesn't suck completely, so hey... let's put it out.'

i don't even understand this.i get pure excitement out of it. if there's new music being made better than this i'd really like to know about it.
Posted: May 3, 2009 3:56 pm
I agree that ITR usually caters to the lame LCD garage punk crowd but every now and then he accidentally puts something good out like The Oh Sees.

"She's The Dutchess, He's The Duke" (kinda too dirgey so I tossed on..
"Discovery" - ELO (disco up beat, but the tie in between the above is the ELO cover of "Little Town Flirt") D&D might benefit by a listen to Del Shannon the genius of pop depression.

Now on to "The Ultimate Blue Notes" Herold Melvin and the Blue Notes (featuring Teddy Pendergrass)

the new Dylan album (yeah see what your voice will sound like in 30 years and zimm is still a Marboro man, lot's of viagra blues cause those 30t are hip to his tricks.

Then Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass "El Solo Toro" (a true genius for the appletini set)
Posted: May 5, 2009 1:00 pm
Coconut Coolouts, Vivian Girls, Hunx and His Punx, Joan Dark, in that order....Then also Scientists, The Horrors, ZZ Top Tejas, Oblivians, Devil Dogs, same shit as always.

X - Aspirations CD [yunno, them from Australia]
The Flesh Eaters- No Questions Asked CD
Instant Automatons- Another Wasted Sunday Afternoon CD
Spike Jones- Musical Depreciation Revue: The Spike Jones Anthology CD

Then Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass "El Solo Toro" (a true genius for the appletini set)

yes well, that kind of thing is just about all I heard around the house until I started listening to the rock 'n' roll; so that whole thing is not quite as camp/ kitsch/ irony for me as it is for a lot of people- my dad even calls Herb Alpert jazz (see what I mean?!)

if there's new music being made better than this i'd really like to know about it.

I really cannot believe you said that. But you adored those dumb ass Hipshakes too, if I remember correctly.

Come on, party people. That record has some awful crap songs on it, the vocalist is annoying, and there's some good stuff on it, if you can stand that singer.

Get The Hospitals' Hairdryer Peace from last year and get with the fuckin program, you disco boys.

As for ITR. A couple of years back I thought it was a great label. Enjoyed many releases Larry put out.
Now it's a shitty label, a real shitty label. O sees or no O sees. Specialized in shitty singers.

And it's a long time waiting for the new Reigning Sound.

A better album than that O Dears thing?
New Risen Throne - Crossing the withered regions!

Howlin' Wolf (disc 1 from a 3 disc Chess box set, early 5ts) the voice again and he's unrelenting, you can almost feel the throb)

Emmylou Harris "Elite Hotel" (sweet, tight and totally doable, just ask Gram at your next sayance)

bo diddely "elephant man" on youtube, in anticipation of my soon to arrive replacement copy of the "black gladiator" lp.

also an unknown band from volume 4 (all new york recs) of the norton garage acetate comps. the song is called "voodoo" and sounds like the black lips should cover it. dead on lips sound, the song is superfuckingcool.

Anybody who can say they like Reigning Sound with a straight face has no credibility and should maybe shelve the know it all attitude.

Wooden Shjips-Dos lp. Killer.

Buck Owens "21 #1 Hits"
sheeeeet, you noise fucks need to kareoke this fucken package, learn to twang, swoosh those harmonies, then get back to sweepin' the corners of the streets of Bakersfield (on the chain gang), yeah real gone and Buck rules.

Listening to the new Eat Skull right now - first impression: WAAAAAAAAY better than the 1st record (of which I was - admittedly- not a fan)… I think the "hi-fi" production (at least compared to the 1st record) really suits them better than blown-out distorto production…

I gotta give it a few more spins before I make any sort of judgement… not hating it that's for sure…

Get over yourself, Ned.
Your hatred for Greg clouds your judgement. Man, your so 'sitcom'.

As soon as I have some money again al check out that Wooden Ships.

A 'Know It All' in music? There is no such thing. And I don't believe I pose as one.
If I do, shoot me.

This is pretty rich coming from a guy who champions the Lyres and the A-Bones and once fronted a band that used Pete Bagge art on their record cover.

I've bought too many records lately. That's the problem with working in a record store. Today I checked in a ROIR order and was like Half Alive by Suicide on vinyl. I need that! Then I'm copping all these Reggae records that I can't say no to. Had to get the Khan Jamal reish. The Eddie Hazel reish. The Charley Patton and Dock Boggs lp's on Monk. The Oh Sees and The Wooden Shjips. Now there's newer Oh Sees and Wooden Shjips stuff. It's a sickness.
(Still need to cop some Wipers reishes too.)

Listened to the new Ty Segall (Lemons) today a couple of times - really, really great record! I feel like it'll be HUGE...

More mellow than the first one (although not by much)... dunno if this was recorded after some time spent in the Sic Alps, but it is very reminiscent of said band... but catchier... I likes it!

(BTW thx for the cd Goner!)

I meant the penultimate song. Not the last one, but the penultimate song. Last songs okay but I like the one before that.

The Blank Dogs record is like the greatest record ever made compared to Tyvek and The Intelligence.

Was sick of all this new crap and blasted a used copy of Devo's Freedom of Choice lp at the store Sunday afternoon. Rulin. Especially Side 1.

New Music Sucks!!!

It's true! As great as the new Blank Dogs album is I can't remember a note of it. Plus it's sort of off-putting knowing that only a rich kid like Mike Stiper who owns his own record store and label could afford all the vintage synths and drum machines it took to make it. I'm hoping if I keep plugging it though Mike will send me a free Iphone.
Posted: May 26, 2009 5:10 pm
I liked "Dismorphobia" and a couple of some of the earlier hits, but I decided to avoid "BD" records after purchasing "On-2-Sides".

I nearly didn't buy Under And Under as I thought it would really bore me; it doesn't and in fact I like it a whole lot, but I won't say there's much of anything new or groundbreaking about it- sounding like a record from the '80s that I actually enjoy for once isn't a bad thing for me

Of course, such saccharine probably won't salt my next task of crawling into the small attic to run some new wire. I might have to dig out some Meat Is Murder to grease those skids, um, joists. I'm not looking forward to meeting the remains of whatever was living up there two months ago. Maybe Trout Mask Replica would be more appropriate.

Blasted Public Image-Flowers of Romance reish LP over and over at the store this weekend. Does anything ever happen on this record? (Seen P.I.L. after it came out and they were totally guitar-heavy. Wonder why Levene left the guitar off the album (other than his explanation at the time that he listened to the tracks and didn't hear anywhere to put guitar...). Still dig it though. Second Edition coming out this week.

The new Avett Brothers album is on right now in my office.
Next, I am putting on a comp that a buddy sent from Boston.
Lots of obscure indie that he is in to, but stuff that is office friendly.
It starts with a Danny DeVito soundbite from a Christmas episode of Taxi.

At home, I was listening to "Oranges and Lemons" with the Kiddo, some Mothers of Invention while doing Laundry and American Don by Don Caballero while sitting on the porch having a beer. Seems that the indian summer has hit the burgh, so I am enjoying my last weekend of porch time I believe.
