agreed; I love some T. Rex, but Marc Bolan certainly did get a little paint-by-numbers at points (still find it funny that he supposedly wrote "Solid Gold Easy Action" in five minutes or something and it topped the chart)

When I got home from listening to records all day at work last night I cooled out with my new King Tubby record-Dub Organizer. Truly great. Also, Keith Hudson-Brand lp. This morning so far at the store we've blasted this great new record by this guy called William Elliot Whitmore or something. Better than anything The Stones have done in the last 20 years which isn't saying much but it's a really good modern blues/rock n roll record. Been digging the new Wavvves a little more. Blasted both Zero Boys recs yesterday. Listening to the Damned Stiff Years now. Gonna blast King Tubby-Rastafari Dub lp in a few.

I listened to a lot of music yesterday. These Jamaican guys came in and wanted me to play them everything so I played Culture-2 Sevens Clash lp, Duke Reid-Golden Hits lp, Dancehall Vol. 1 & 2 lp's, Keith Hudson of course, played Horace Andy-Sings For You & I lp and a guy bought it halfway through Side 1 (great record on Clocktower if you can find it btw), Max Romeo-War Ina Babylon lp and a bunch of other stuff. One of the guys ended up buying the Studio One-Full Up comp and a Sly and Robbie joint. I'll play Reggae records all day for anybody.

the new kylesa album, old slick rick stuff, this cincinnati hiphop compilation cd i got from 1999, and some nice french pop stuffs a la gall, hardy, & dutronc which is fantastic for springtime. and for some reason or another, i have had "die die die my darling" stuck in my head for goddamn 4 days now. (mostly the guitar part though.)
Posted: Mar 23, 2009 1:34 pm

its springtime now kinda, so I usually break out the latin and jamaican records when the weather gets like this. I had a day off the other day after 13 straight days of workin 2 jobs, so I shot some hoops most of the afternoon and tried to give The Clash "Sandinista" a second chance after 15 years of not listening to it...unfortunately, it still sucks...so, after listening to that 3 LP terd, I broke out:

Novos Baianos "E Ferro na Boneca"
Erasmo Carlos S/T
The best of Slim Smith
Alton Ellis "Sings rock and soul"
Caetano Veloso "Transa"
Emanuel K Rahim and Khaliqs "Total Submission"

Thanks. I started swappin' stuff with Tommy Southard of Solace. He's one of those guys who's got too many records. I sent him a bunch of my favorites that I had extra copies of like the Christ Child LP & the Fucking Flyin' A-Heads 45. I caught him at a week moment 'cause he loves me now. Every once in a while, he'll send a Solace record that is long out of print.

I also swap with Marc Fischer who runs PublicCollectors.org (http://www.publiccollectors.org/). He sent me Roman Beach Party by Celibate Rifles, which I love.

Yes. If you want CD-R, gimme a couple weeks. If you can hack a cassette, gimme a week.

That Keith Hudson one is a great record. I got into a 15 minute conversation with a guy about it last weekend when I was blasting it. He never heard Keith Hudson before and said it was better than Bob Marley! I gotta score that one too. Been blasting Augustus Pablo-Africa Must Be Free By 1983 a lot the last couple of days.
Posted: Apr 1, 2009 12:07 am

It isn't hard to get better than Bob Marley, as that shit is soooo fucking white. By which I don't mean to slight Keith Hudson at all; he fucking ruled/ still rules and I named a song "Dub Dentist" in his honour. Anyway, today for me it's been... (almost all CDs; been traveling)

Elton John - Honky Chateau. I gotta digitize this. The insert tab A into slot B record cover can't last forever if I gotta undo it everytime I play it.

Hearin' "Honkey Cat" and "Rocket Man" on pristine vinyl on a fair-to-middling stereo makes you realize what you're missing hearing the cuts on FM radio at work.

a coupla months back I a buncha CDs from the ROYAL PURPLE... paisley pop, sunny psych!

I understand they'll send 'em to anyone, not just writers with inflated opinions of themselves, lotsa flattery and a promise of a good review... wrote 'em thru myspace. I got five total, mostly 14 tracks each.. that's a lotta music!

Good luck with that; honestly. The fuckers are REALLY expensive and I almost never see them on eBay even, let alone in person. Might be cheaper/ easier to get the Japanese CDs; I have all ten of them myself.

One seller recently had a bunch of killer, obscure gospel stuff up on Ebay that I couldn't afford but thankfully full MP3s were provided.

This one's my favorite, for fans of early Staple Singers, etc.:

I loved that record, but Robertson's headbands & hair had to make for one of the worst looks in rock 'n' roll. Kinda like Mike Reno from Loverboy.

Listened to Tago Mago, Abner Jay LP (holy smokes! mezmerizing!) today already…

N.P.: Oh Sees 'Help' LP (not as immediately satisfying as 'Masters Bedroom', but it's a grower - I think it rules! - one of the best bands going right now for sure)…

not as immediately satisfying as \'Masters Bedroom\', but it\'s a grower

are you crazy? "immediate" is the first thing i thought when i dropped the needle on it the first time. that opening track is a monster! as is every other song. i\'ve listened to this record about 20 times since last week and have been blown away every single time!

i never heard masters bedroom though.

new Neil Young (Pretty good. I keep playing it
those middle clas fols on Sound Opinions gave it a "trash it" and a "burn it" rating, said it was unfinished, needs more polish, sounded like Rust Never Sleeps or the folky harmonies he did in the 6ts.

Then those two gushed over some pop dou from Montreal.

Course the new Dylan record sound get high revues since it plays with "sound".

Black Sabbath - Paranoid (Deluxe Edition)
The bonus tracks are pretty boring (mostly instrumental versions of LP tracks, with a couple of "alternate vocal" takes), but the remaster of the original album is fucking BAD ASS. The bass sound is just killer. Geezer Butler wins again.

Black Sabbath

i put on the s/t album when i came from from work last night and listened to it in the dark.

unfinished, needs more polish

That's obviously what's good about it. It sounds like A Crazy Horse album without Crazy Horse. It's no Zuma or On The Beach but it's better that the last few he's put out and may be one of his second-tier best. I like it.

WoooHooo Tubes!!!! I gotta 1968 Wallace and Ladmo cast poster looming over me right now. Oh, actually a 1968 "Wallace & Co." cast poster.

Heard an XTC cut while watching "Ashes to Ashes" on demand today. Since they made an American "Life on Mars", I wonder if an American "Ashes to Ashes" will come to life. I've still yet to attempt viewing an American Life on Mars episode, but the tunes in the brit version and the tunes in Ashes to Ashes get me sprung.

I gotta 1968 Wallace and Ladmo cast poster looming over me right now. Oh, actually a 1968 "Wallace & Co." cast poster.

A what what? Yeah, this is before they started to act "ironic"/ suck. Keep meaning to get out Now as I haven't listened to it in years; they covered a Beefheart song on there and that was the first time I heard it.

Which XTC song did you hear on there? I really need an all-region DVD player so I can check out things like Life On Mars!!

"Life is good in the greenhouse/ Rather be a plant than be your Mickey Mouse (ha ha ha ha ha ha)" etc.
Posted: Apr 17, 2009 2:16 am | Edited by: SSSSSSS

The XTC cut was on "Ashes to Ashes" which is another flashback show, but set in '81 and involves a broad with bad hair that wears Flashdance fashions. Life on Mars only had the 70s hits, yo!

It shouldn't take too much research to reveal the Tubes / Wallace and Ladmo connection.

EDIT: they bleeped out "Cunt" I dunno why....
Posted: Apr 17, 2009 2:45 am

I'd like to be able to dig up some old Fee Waybill action on Wallace & Ladmo, but I'm too lazy.

This clip is pretty good, tho.

When you go to jail in Phoenix, your meals are referred to as "Ladmo Bags." Typically a bologna sandwich and an orange or apple. Mmmmm, tasty. The worst is breakfast. Nasty oatmeal all congealed, with an orange.

Good luck with that; honestly. The fuckers are REALLY expensive and I almost never see them on eBay even, let alone in person. Might be cheaper/ easier to get the Japanese CDs; I have all ten of them myself.

Have you seen the documentary yet?

i haven't but thanks for reminding me! totally forgot about it.

used to work in a library that has all of haack's kid's stuff on vinyl and i used to keep those suckers checked out constantly. gave me hope i'd eventually find at least a few of them myself but, as you said, easier said than done. think i'll suck it up and just get the cds.

true dat - a great record.

'A Flag In The Court' is still my jam, yo.

my only critique is the garage number on side 2 (track 9 - 'I Can't Get No') - seems kind of like a throwaway track… other than that - this record is a burner!
