Soap Opera!

Live at Kelvin Hall is always a hoot to listen to, especially the mono version with the girls' screams being louder than the band...and the audience singing Sunny Afternoon....

i'm one of those freaks who really likes Lola vs Powerman & The Moneygoround and Muswell Hillbillies. I like all the ones before those, too.

'Muswell Hillbillies' is a great album! their last totally solid one (in my opinion)

not that partial to 'Lola'...

Something Else

Village Green
Most of Lola/Powerman
Muswell Hillbillies

I have never listened to any of Preservation or Schoolboys in Disgrace. Should I? Anyone?

Soap Opera has it's moments but it's mixed all crappy.

Low Budget was OK I think.

I LOVE the kinks and I know it's a fucking collection, but it's just easier for me to put on "Remastered". It may be gay, I know, but I don't really care, because it captures what I need to hear. Every. Fucking. Time.

Preservation or Schoolboys in Disgrace

nope

but you SHD reconsider f2f

for a collection Kronikles is REAL good
Posted: Jan 2, 2009 11:03 pm

Never got around to F2F.

There's an EP called Candy From Mister Dandy that I used to have, had Dead End Street on it. Great. If you can find that one anywhere...

Percy.

i bought my first ipod & i just put 184 songs by the kinks on it.

but i didn't put Father Christmas or Black Messiah on it -

and i really really think "Give The People What They Want" is wonderful

this one is also fun for later period kinks channeling the jam stuff -

the reprise mono issues are superior sounding, is there a good bio of the band?
Posted: Jan 3, 2009 3:22 pm

Percy and Preservation I have a song a piece worth hearing ('Dreams" and "Lady Genevieve", respectively). most of the rest is pretty useless in my humble opinion. I still need to get my hands on The Great Lost Links Album. And Kronikles is an incredibly awesome compilation. Mandatory, even, unless you bought the '98 reissues on cd of everything from Something Else thru Lola v PM & MGR with all the bonus tracks tacked on the end.

Everything else form the mid o late 70s is worthless IMHO, but Give the People What They Want and State of Confusion have some great songs.

If you want a good read, check out X-Ray by Ray himself (which is a weird sci-fi thing but has some history) or Kink, by Dave. It has some goofy new age crap, but some great stories. The gay stuff is revealing...
