ECSR may be the only record I bought this year that made me dance full on around the house like an ape-woman. So thumbs up for that.

Honorable mention: Maybe Vivian Girls. When did the Box Elders 45 come out?

Favorite jamz : Been a slow year, but Mrs. Officer and Love in the Club get my vote

Don Rickles lp.
Posted: Nov 17, 2008 9:12 am

without a doubt, lili z's album "the two of us" is the best record of this year. i don't even care what comes in after the top spot.
Posted: Nov 17, 2008 9:32 am

I'm all for ECSR but I think the Ooga Boogas are the LP of the year. Especially "Fannie Mae."

Worlds Lousy - #4
Posted: Nov 17, 2008 10:01 am

oh, and i can't wait for the Barbara's LP to come out. that'll be best of 2009 for sure as long as jaytard don't fuck it up. leave the wall of reverb alone!!!

Weird doesn't use bass, man.
We only use Rhodes electric pianos.
You should really check out that Rocket Science Audio place.

Daisy, Kitty and Lewis. Two sisters, one brother, all youngsters, from London who play a mix of r&b, swing, blues etc. Besides the normal LP and CD, they also released their debut album as one of those 40's style 78 books. It contains five 78RPM 10 inches. AWESOME!!!!!

Could be, I guess I don't remember. I buy very few new records so it's hard for me to come up with ten worthy candidates.

I agree. Saw them once, liked them. Checked out recordings, didn't like them. I was wondering if I only liked the show cause of a large consumption of booze.

I'm a pop fag, so this year I liked:

Powerchords - Think I'm Gonna LP
Gentleman Jesse - LP
Wax Museums - LP
Black & Whites - LP
(Douchemaster was on fire this year)
Marked Men - Fortune 7"
20/20 - Going Up With My Girl 7"
Miss Chain & the Broken Heels - Boys & Girls 7"
Perfect Fits - both singles
Jay Reatard - Painted Shut
Pleasure Kills - Mission Boy 7"
Ted Leo side of split with Zack Galifianakis

Not pop, but my favorite record of the year was Dean Dirg - Raus! LP

Song of the year is BOOGER IN MY ASSHOLE, by a mile.
Posted: Nov 18, 2008 10:16 am

Oh yeah, PETS LP is great too.
Posted: Nov 18, 2008 10:41 am

The Hussy (new from Madison, WI!) demos

Adam, they've been getting better (live), too. I really wish they had a bassist! But they do well as a duo. Some of the tunes get samey over the course of a set, but they're youngsters and will hopefully figure it out. They're playing Milwaukee a lot now, first Madison band (unless Dead Luke is a band) that's done that in forever.

When the fuck is Tyvek gonna finally do an LP? How about Electric Bunnies? Happy Thoughts? Home Blitz? UV Race? Wizard Sleeve?

I'll just slot the Nodzzz LP in for the 2007 Sonic Chicken because I know it'll rule.

Maybe the worst year for new music ever.

I totally agree. All the music that mattered to me this year was either re-issued or compiled.

Some personal highlights

Highlife Time: Nigerian & Ghanian Sounds from the 60's and 70's (Vampisoul 2LP)
All Bagged Up - THE BAGS (Artifix LP)
The History of Rhythm & Blues Vol.1: The Pre-War Years 1925-1942 (Rhythm & Blues Records 4CD)
Give Me Love: Songs of the Brokenhearted: Baghdad 1925-29 (Honest Jon's CD)
Guitar Boy Superstar 1970-76 - SIR VICTOR UWAIFO (Soundway 2LP)
In the Pines: Tar Heel Songs and Fiddle Tunes (Old Hat Records CD)
1970's Algerian Proto-Raï Underground (Sublime Frequencies LP)
Salah Ragab Egyptian Jazz (Art Yard CD)
Shbahoth Iraqi-Jewish Song from the 1920s (Renoir Records CD)
Sprigs of Time: 78s from the EMI Archive (Honest Jon's CD)
Sounds from a Bygone Era Vol.5: GABY LUNCA (Asphalt Tango CD)
Dr. Boogie presents Shim Sham Shimmy (Sub Rosa CD)
Halloween Recorded Live 1979-81 - ROLY ERICKSON & THE EXPLOSIONS (Norton 2LP)
Mad Mike Monsters Vol.1-3 (Norton 3xLP)
Double Sunrise Over Neptune - WILLIAM PARKER (Aum Fidelity CD)
Rembetika 3: VASSILIS TSITSANIS (JSP 5CD)
Classic Early Sides 1952-1957 - IKE TURNER (JSP 2CD)
LEROY CARR & SCRAPPER BLACKWELL Vol.1 1928-1934 (JSP 4CD)
That's What They Want: Jook Joint Blues 1943-1956 (JSP 4CD)

I did like the Davila 666 album though and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like the new Black Time album. My favorite new album is probably Cath & Phil Tyler's "Dumb Supper".

Over & out.

I've just gotten around to listening to the latest Graham Day and the Gaolers "Triple Distilled". Sounds like Graham has regained the magic touch that he had for a while in the Prisoners and Prime Movers. I'm loving it.

Finally heard La Dusseldorf-Viva at work. Not as mindblowing as I had expected. Kinda watered-down Neu. Pass. Next to score: DNA on DNA lp. Oh, and surprisingly been digging Pavement-Brighten The Corners reissue. Never really liked their other stuff but that rec is good. So I guess somebody else DOES like Matador. Go figure.

Whatever. I guess it was kinda stupid to expect La Dusseldorf to be as good or better than Neu. Neu was one of the greatest bands ever.
