We're very sorry to announce that founding member of The DESCENDENTS, and close friend Frank Navetta passed away on October 31, 2008 after becoming ill over the course of a few days. This is obviously a huge loss for the DESCENDENTS family. His contribution to the band, and to music in general can not be overstated. Frank will be truly missed. We will share information about memorial services when we find out.

This sucks. Frank wrote so many awesome songs, including "Parents" which was the first song I ever learned how to play on bass.

dude, this really sucks! they really held it together for me in high school when punk changed and peeled off into a thousand directions!

R.I.P. I seem to remember he was a mail delivery guy- saw him play in his sexy postal bermudas in a post-Descendents band. No doubt the early Descendents set the bar way above anything later "pop-punk" bands ever reached...

According to Wikipedia (?) (yeah I know), he played on four songs on the record.

I loved these guys growing up. Since I heard about Frank I've been playing a bunch of their stuff. Still sounds good.

MR Bass!

That song was a ton better live, just as I'd hoped.

I hate california r&r but "Mr. Bass" is an exception

There was some good Desecendents-related stuff in the new Black Flag book "Spray Paint The Walls" by Stevie Chick. Worth checking out for that, and other early SST-related stuff, alone.....
