Goner Message Board / ???? / Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay!!!!!!!!!! The G-PHONE!

Who's got T-Mobile and who's getting a G-Phone?
I'm getting one! I think that as the Android open source OS moves on it will be better and more powerful than the Iphone. On a side by side comparison, the Iphone wins in touch screen technology and screen speed and fluidness.... but I really the way the Gphone looks, it has a Qwerty keyobard, great google maps with GPS and all the google features we're use to now, all bundled up in the phone. Plus the applications that will become available for free is limitless. I also really like the idea of having a SD card slot (up to 8gb) removable. Apple is known to lock in their batteries and thats one thing that really blows as they trap you into upgrading to the newest latest model. The Gphone has a removable battery! I've never been a huge fan or for that matter, never even owned a phone that I had to pay for but I think its time. It's Gtime.

Gphone looks rad, but I don't wanna pay extra $ every month for a data plan.
Posted: Oct 2, 2008 3:49 pm

when's this fucker ready? does t-mobile really support it? i was thinking of getting a blackberry but wanted to wait for this.
Posted: Oct 2, 2008 3:56 pm

how much is the data plan going to be?

i have t-mobile right now and the service in memphis is shit. i was thinking of switching to at&t in november when my plan expires and getting an iphone...it's an extra 30 bucks a month though!
Posted: Oct 2, 2008 3:57 pm

the phone is available now for T-Mobile ONLY current customers for $299 with a 2-year contract or $399 for no-contract. It goes on sale for current T-Mobile customers on Oct. 22nd for $179 bucks.

You can by for pretty cheap on the plan as a whole.
$29.99/month for cell plan... 300 anytime minutes, unlimited Nights & weekends then another $25 for the data plan with 400 text or $35 for data with unlimited text. thats about $55 to 65 a month. much cheaper than most other options.

I had a cellphone once. Everybody called me all the time and it really got on my nerves. I enjoy being away from the phone and not having anybody bother me. One day I got off the train after about 10 people called in a row and threw it as far as I could across the parking lot. I wouldn't mind a Blackberry though.

the only thing that sucks for me, is that T-mobile is just now rolling out its new 3G network and it won't be available in Milwaukee until the middle to end of 2009... i can still use their old network but 3G is much faster... plus it runs on wi-fi and i have that most places i go.
Posted: Oct 2, 2008 4:02 pm

the 3G network however will be available in 25 to 27 cities by the 22nd

300 minutes is pretty much shit.

I bet Sweatpants Baker only wears free T-shirts. I can just see him walking around downtown Jersey City with his swaetpants halfway down his ass wearing a Google T-shirt he got free somewhere trying to scrounge a copy of the NY times so he can look at the baseball standings so he'll have something to post to Mullet later when he uses the free computers at the Library. Then shuffling back off to his mom's basement to think about his 2 failed marriages.

300 minutes is pretty much shit.

only if yer a fag or an idiot that talks on the phone constantly while in your car getting the finger and horn from me. I use about 150 minutes a month, either way though... you can 1000 minutes from T-Mobile for 10 bucks more a month
Posted: Oct 2, 2008 4:44 pm

i got my phone for free, only had to pay 30 bucks for 300 minutes. no contract, just have to pay for the minutes i use. i dont need internet on my phone. its a nice little motorola.

Yeah, I thought it was funny the add for the G-phone where the guy is holding it up, doing the moving GoogleMaps Street View - like, cool man, what's in front of you is on your phone!
Posted: Oct 2, 2008 4:46 pm

i just called and talked to a t mobile rep about the pricing. you have to off contract to get the phone for $179... or not exactly off contract but your last upgrade has to be at least 22 months for a 2-year contact... im only at 20 months but she said once the phone is released i should call back and they'll be able to offer me a deal on the phone.
Posted: Oct 2, 2008 4:47 pm

haha! yeah, true... but the maps feature with GPS is pretty sweet. you can find the building you're looking for before you get to it and be able to recognize it when you see it.

maybe ill just wait it out for this version....

no one calls me on my land line (one real voice a month). I turn off the ringer. hate it when my 6 is a 12, the final countdown is throbbing and some computer voice rings with a free vacation offer..

I wouldn't mind a Blackberry though.

doesn't ownership presume literacy?

i buy t shirts however at goodwill; my mom lives 500 miles away; i make a lot of money so the Times I pay for; i have two computers; i don't walk around jersey city; my knowledge of baseball is not in the evanescent moment of yesterday's news which would be apparent to anyone who could read and think, a subdivision of the human species that you apparently will never join, along with other creepy retards like michael jackson and leon spinks.

and those ex wives? they never supported me nor bought my t shirts. i actually like my job. i actually like to work. try it sometime. it will partially compensate for yr dwarfism and failed music career.

just kidding! nothing can do that!

I'm posting right now from my iPhone (woke up in the night, in bed, couldn't sleep). Like the GooglePhone, it's less a phone, and much more a pocket size computer that also happens to have a phone.

I hear that a lot of people really like that little Samsung touch-screen smart phone that Verizon is peddling.

Apple deserves the credit for the innovation that is driving the rest of the industry. As for the others now coming to market, competition is good. Can't wait to see what new innovation will come about as more players enter the market.

I see that Blackberry just came out with a keyboard-less touch screen model this week.

i just redid my contract two months ago and reworked it and sold me the gphone at the 179 price. didn't hear anything about a 22 month period since last upgrade.

Posted: Oct 9, 2008 12:45 pm

Hmm. I didn't know you could post on The Goner Board with an Iphone. This could change everything. Beer reports from Stop and Shop! Making fun of Sweatpants on the subway! Imagine the possibilities!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the mindset that propelled our current financial situation. "I'll sign anything because I can always get out of it. Oh, shit, no I can't."

1st gphone post!

let's hope Android takes over the world in the 1.75 years it takes for my iPhone contract to run out.

There's a lot I love about the iPhone, but if someone can make a halfway elegant open source phone that comes close in terms of rendering the web, I'll bite.
Posted: Oct 22, 2008 9:35 am

wish i had one but i gotta wait 2 more months before my contract is up to get the good deal. fuckin t mobile.
Posted: Oct 22, 2008 9:42 am

i can access/ post on the goner board with my blackberry, but yer right, compared to iphones & g-phones, the bb's kind of lame.

i'm not making any moves now, as my company pays for my blackberry & plan, but if i did, the g-phone's removable battery would likely seal the deal for me. Apple really needs to get on board with that. their stuff is admittedly awesome, but it's a racket.

how long does the average user keep a cell phone around for? chances are you'll be on to something newer / greater by the time your iPhone stops getting a decent recharge.

I have an iPod from 2002-- battery still lasts 8 hours or so. these days I can get a replacement for a few bucks. I know you can't exactly pop open the back of an iphone with a butter knife, but competition in the third party battery replacement industry will drive prices down soon enough, just like it did for iPods.

ok. i got to be honest here. despite all the ballyhoo, anticipation and hoopla, the pride of strutting down the boulevard with cutting edge technology poised in your mitt, my verdict on this digital lapdog...

piece of shit.

hasn't worked in two days. loved it in that short window of time where it actually functioned but that was about 1.5 days out of the last 5. i put my card back into my old piece of shit cell that actually works.

I have a G1 for work. No problems like yours yet, Seamus. But I wouldn't be surprised -- all this tech comes with a price. And the price is usually that it's FRAGILE.

(If only I had a dollar for every broken iPhone story I've heard.)
