ass usual
don't go to shows
handled by ticket fucker

Pistol Pez, I got tix for both shows. If you got room for 2, we'll pay for gas from Louisville, Ky on.

Or another option I'm exploring, is that I'll buy someone tickets (for both nights) and pay them 20 dollars a night upfront, if they let just me crash on thier floor Thursday-Sunday.

Write me back here or joan666dark@gmail.com

It was a Navy Blue crewneck Sweatshirt, "Ed." I seen Mono Man wear them a million times. I was wearing Levis and Black Chuck Taylors on the bottom. All according to regulations I assure you.
Posted: Mar 30, 2009 5:52 pm

Regulation? As of the last 15 years I rarely wear all-stars anymore. I'm too lazy to lace and tie them. Zip-up boots man! Thats the way to go. One question though, what does Monoman have to do with this? But since you brought him up, I see that guy wearin' sweat pants all the time.
Posted: Mar 30, 2009 6:00 pm

What does Mono Man have to do with a Gories/Oblivians thread? Doubtful you'd have any of these fans let alone a band if it wasn't for him to start with. Mono Man rules! (I'll forget that part about the sweatpants.)

They are!

Yeah, Yeah! Let's party!!! Where are you staying?
Posted: Mar 31, 2009 2:58 pm

As for GenX v. Artisan - anyone know if either of them have a gym? Or close to the YMCA? I know I'll probably say to hell with it once I get there, but I like to have the option, at least.
Posted: Mar 31, 2009 6:04 pm

hey, is the memphis deal gonna be gories headline friday, then oblivians headline saturday? i noticed the ticket biscuit info reversed the order of band names for each date.
Posted: Mar 31, 2009 6:45 pm

So is there a definite date on the vera club show? Also, can any Euros out there in Gonerland tell me the way to get advanced tickets to the Vera once the date is announced? Thanks
Posted: Mar 31, 2009 9:42 pm

Okay, so after finding a webpage, the vera doesn't look like the small place I envisioned. Cool place to see a show?

And..

Which of the Euro dates are NOT festivals? It's getting hard to figure out. I want to hit a couple, but avoid fests. Paris or England would be easy for me in july.
Posted: Apr 1, 2009 12:30 am

vera will be a cool place to see this show

here's what it looked like in 93 or 94
Posted: Apr 1, 2009 12:56 am

Sjock in Belgium and Blast Off in the UK are the only two festivals.
Vera usually starts pre selling tickets 3 weeks in advance.

09-jul Brussel or Gent Belgium

any news yet?

Zip-up boots man!
velcro all the way for me
Posted: Apr 1, 2009 6:15 am

Paris or England would be easy for me in july.

Not sure what the Nottingham venue is like, but the Paris one is a regular club / gig and not a fest. Paris tickets were easy to order on-line too.

Yeah, Yeah! Let's party!!! Where are you staying?

Not sure yet.
Any suggestions. I notice a couple of places have been mentioned on here already. Anywhere in stumbling distance is OK by me.

ps - will be at Detroit show too.

The Vera is a very good place, no question! And to Clif, consider the show (14th of July) in Münster (2 hours from Groningen), too! No festival, beside the Gories & Oblivians probably the always amazing Rock & Roll Adventure Kids will play, but not 100% sure yet. 300 tickets are on sale (mail to: tickets@gleis22.de).

Seeing as soncdirt hasn't posted it yet here's his Saturday day show in Nottingham: http://www.sonicdirt.co.uk/blowout/

Handily all the decent bands bar the Coyotemen are playing the Friday and all the sucky ones on the Saturday. So we can have a great Friday night and Saturday afternoon then get too drunk to have to care on Saturday night.

Handily all the decent bands bar the Coyotemen are playing the Friday

And for that very reason I'm only going on the Friday and skipping Saturday completely.

Hey is the Verona, Italy date on the 17th of July confirmed??
Posted: Apr 2, 2009 10:46 am

No Verona but these are the shows in Italy:
17 july, friday: HANA-BI, Marina di Ravenna
18 july, saturday: SPAZIALE FESTIVAL, Torino

no tickets yet though

do you really think the show would sell out? have things changed that much in Spain? last time I was there was '05. the only things crowded were the free shows

The Funtastic Dracula Carnival with the Mummies was sold out.

GREG-O -
Are you guys only playing one show in Detroit?
Posted: Apr 3, 2009 6:58 pm

GREG-O - shit man, sorry - more questions -we're coming from the four corners of the earth and we're tryin' to get th' logistics dialed - IF you are only playing one show in Detroit, it prolly makes more sense to check you guys out in Memphis, and if we check you out in Memphis, are you guys headlining both shows, or what's the scoop? What I am tryin' to say is, I appreciate what you done for the musical world, and we are most keen on seeing you guys play, even though we love the Gories, too. And why oh why cain't ya'll play somewhere on the west coast?
Posted: Apr 3, 2009 8:13 pm

I know this is an inconvenience for folks who don't live close to either and I regret that. But, if you can get a couple days off work, Memphis is a pretty cool place to spend a weekend. Besides, once you conceed to a show in LA, people will ask why you're not playing NY. If we agree to NY then folks in Texas and Louisiana will feel snubbed. I think you see where this is going. Playing to our hometowns just makes the most sense. Both bands will play equally long with no opener so who's headlining is not really an issue. It'll be a great time.

You guys think they'll mix up the setlists a little bit between the two Memphis shows?
Posted: Apr 4, 2009 3:13 pm

All I know is June 19 will be the first Gories show in 15+ years and I can't wait to be standing there. This was one reunion that I'd guessed would never ever happen.

Thanks again to both groups and everyone involved for putting this on!
Posted: Apr 4, 2009 5:59 pm

I got tickets for Detroit too, though I wish the Oblivians were the headliners here too. I love the Gories, don't get me wrong, I just love the Oblivians a little more, and wanna see 'em play longer. Regardless, It's gonna be fucking incredible. If only the Mummies and Supercharger would jump on the bill....
Posted: Apr 4, 2009 7:54 pm

Sorry to keep asking questions, but who said the Oblivians are headlining in Memphis? The Hi-Tone's site has got both bands down for 9 PM...I figured it was TBA.

THANKS GREG-O - Still looks like ya'll are only playing one show in Detroit, so Memphis it is.

We got our 2 yesterday for Detroit. Fat bro will swell the crowd of dudes in girl jeans. Doin it for the kids. Will probably be better than The Flirt reunion I saw at the Magic Stick.

As for GenX v. Artisan - anyone know if either of them have a gym? Or close to the YMCA?

Gen-X site says, "Access to nearby fitness center."

No idea about the Artisan.

Artisan is very close to a Taco Bell according to the trash in our hotel room this morning.
Posted: Apr 6, 2009 12:47 pm

We're staying at the mid-town Holiday Inn Express right next to the hospital- I hope that hotel doesn't suck. And I hope that being 1.9 miles away from the Hi-Tone doesn't bite us in the ass when we're trying to stumble back there in the wee hours! Anyone stayed at this place?

I stayed there a couple years ago. It was newly renovated and low priced.

WHOOOOO EMEFFIN HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I can't wait for these shows. THANK YOU GREG-O! I never got to see the Oblivians, so I'm so effin' stoked that they are playin'. BEST BAND EVER. I hope they play for three hours each night. Waitaminnit - I bet they do it for five hours.

no, it'll be years down the line that you have to worry about that.

I developed HPPD soon after my fourth time doing LSD and stopped immediately. It's seriously some fucked up shit. I wish my body could have waited a little longer because I had some good times on psychedelics, but I'm done for good now. I'd advise anyone doing it to be careful.

On a side note, does you guys' HPPD bother you anymore? I heard after a while you get used to it. It really bothers me when I'm driving at night in particular.

I've experienced flashbacks before, probbably because I once accidentaly tripped for 3 days straight. I turned to my friend and said I think I'm having a flashback, and he said that is should kick back and enjoy it because it's a free high....I couldn't argue with that, I wound up having a blast. I'll never intentionaly do lsd again thow...well not without a video game system.

for detroit hotel, i recently stayed at motor city casino for like $90/night. the room had 2 huge double beds, excellent bathroom, etc. plus free parking.

i think i got the deal via an online special. casinos are hurting right now so you might want to also try greektown or mgm grand

adam, amtrak is about $30 each way from chicago to detroit. probably cheaper than gas each way. not sure how much more it would be from mke or wherever in wisconsin you are.

Gories/Oblivians will be playing at the awesome 4AD club in Diksmuide, Belgium on Monday July 13th. That's right, the day after the SJOCK festival where both bands are scheduled with Untamed Youth & New Bomb Turks!! I am so glad with this indoor show, especially because both my kids will be on holiday camp with the youth organisation that week so daddy's gonna have some real fun at night & sleep all day long!!! That is one expensive rock show.

But think of the quality of that rock, it'll be worth it.

It's gonna cost me about the same to get the train/coach to Nottigham as it is to fly to Europe. Nutz

hmm... it's looking like around $400 to $500 to fly to Memphis from Seattle. That is one expensive rock show.

Hey... I am flying from Australia!!
Airfares and accommodation is going to cost me approx $2500.

Now THAT is an expensive rock show.

Some of you should just Greyhound it. After 2 or 3 days on the Greyhound you'll think you're in heaven when you see them play. Then on the way home you can tell some smelly Amish guy all about it and realize just how worth it it was. I'm seriously considering it, any takers?

A bonus is that you can smuggle all your good home-town bud, fairly easy and share it in Memphis and make friends quickly.

Honestly I may just rent a car and gun it all Friday morning...any one need a ride around I-75. Gas, Grass, or Ass. Where are the speed traps?

We definitely wanna go back to Memphis, tho'. There were a few things we didn't get accomplished last time we were there, plus the food, the music, & the kids about town were just plain great.

One can only hope. I would assume the next Greg O. affiliated U.S. shows (other than the 8/15 Compulsive Gamblers reunion in Memphis, which I take is a one-off) will be a Reigning Sound tour in support of the new album, which comes out in July. Hoping for some Texas dates either way though.

I have no idea if it's going to be sold out but I've heard the capacity of the club is 250 people.
Tix are being sold at Le Trip only but not online. My gf asked a friend in Madrid to buy us tickets.
I guess the best thing you can do is contact the guy who organizes the show.

Does anyone know what time the show starts at Majestic? Flying in from out of town and don't want to miss anything. Site says 8pm which I'm hoping is just doors.

1. Where's a good place to stay in Detroit? Preferably around $100/night and within walking distance or a short cab ride to the show?

2. Any good breakfast/brunch spots that serve bloody marys/alcohol that are worth hitting up before the greg o show on sunday?

I think we are staying at the Best Western on Washington just across the street from Comerica Park. I've stayed there before. They have a the continental breakfast thing in the mornings, but no bloody marys.

Hey Eric! Do you mind if you show is videotaped? I will send you a DVD of the event as quickly as I can after the show & I will not post it on any forum, trade it with any chump, nor make it available for any kind of viewing without the band's consent.

Also, will the band sign a copy of 17 Cum Shots?
Posted: Jun 4, 2009 3:55 am

Oops... That's not a Best Western anymore. It's a Holiday Inn Express & it's noticably more than $100/night.

The Marriot in the Renaissance Center is $139/night on hotels.com.

1. Where's a good place to stay in Detroit? Preferably around $100/night and within walking distance or a short cab ride to the show?

There's not a lot to choose from. Walking is not an option, and cabs are a joke that aint funny. The Majestic claims to have some sort of shuttle service, which may or may not be of use (someone should look into this) As for Hotels, there's no deals downtown. We've had Friends stay at The Milner before, and it was fine. Only drawback was no parking (there's a lot down the block). The Corktown is reasonable, but involves a drive (it's in Corktown, down the road from what's left of Tiger Stadium) As for anyone coming in Friday, you'll be driving to The Old Miami. Should I remind everyone not to leave anything visible in your vehicle?

2. Any good breakfast/brunch spots that serve bloody marys/alcohol that are worth hitting up before the greg o show on sunday?

I hate lineups. And I especially hate children and babies when I'm nursing a hangover. We usually hit a neighborhood with several options; The Eastern Market, Greektown, Mexican Town. I'd suggest The Bronx on 2nd at Prentis, but I don't know if they're still doing brunch.
