Nothing has made my day more than this news. The Gories and the Oblivians playing on their own is amazing enough, but both together is total mind fuckery. 30 hour drive to Memphis here I come. I will feel such relief when I know that I have tickets to the show of the year. Soon I hope.

Big news. Any updates? Sorry to say that this would/could ruin any plans for me to go to gonerfest this year. I can only drive to Memphis from LA once a year. You could really kill some birds with a stone Greg..

we thought about this... might be a weird year.
Posted: Jan 15, 2009 10:45 pm

For real...that was one of my first posts on this...some of us can only afford one trip...Gonerfest could be it..

Why not?
Posted: Jan 15, 2009 11:41 pm

if i had money and i could at least go to one, i'd pick gonerfest.
Posted: Jan 15, 2009 11:42 pm

of course there's probably gonna be a grip of periferal shows and parties around o's and g's.

any firm dates on this? planning my vacation around it...

Getting close to a firm routing for Europe. Stay tuned- Greg

Europe is all well and good, but what are the goddamn US dates?!?
Posted: Feb 8, 2009 11:14 am

Getttin close to announce US dates guys?
Posted: Feb 11, 2009 5:51 am

can't wait for the dates that G and O will play in Europe; and for the Balls that don't understand: when G and O play in the US, will they also play at the Gonerfest; do the US dates of G and O also include Gonerfest 6?
Posted: Feb 11, 2009 10:53 am

Gonerfest is at the end of September. The GO's tour has been pushed back into July it looks like... but by then the economy will have turned around and all of us will be able to afford trips to Memphis every couple of weeks!

One English date seems to be happening at some festival in Nottingham: www.myspace.com/blastofffest

Shame, it's about 5 minutes from my house but the rest of that line-up looks pretty weak to say the least.
Posted: Feb 13, 2009 10:01 am

pretty weak to say the least.
never heard of any of those bands.
aside from the top 2.
Posted: Feb 13, 2009 10:04 am

i think they will also be playing a festival in belgium (the one the sonics headlined last year)

bummer, since i don't like dresscodes & beer in plastic

One English date seems to be happening

As it's the only UK date there's no way it can be missed. The rest of the bands look shit, with the exception of the always great Coyote Men.
Posted: Feb 13, 2009 3:14 pm

Oblivians have to dress as Robin Hood and his merry men if they play in Nottingham! And play lutes!
Posted: Feb 13, 2009 5:32 pm

I hear This solo act is opening all the shows:
Posted: Feb 13, 2009 6:44 pm

i don't like dresscodes

didn't notice a dresscode last year.
Beer in plastic indeed sucks tho

Dress code? What?
Posted: Feb 14, 2009 8:26 am

Kind of a shame they're playing England as it means I probably won't bother going to Europe now. Los Chicos and Coyotemen are great though. The rest looks like generic garage that I can take or leave, but it's not like it'll be painfully bad or anything. I think I can deal with it for the sake of two of my favourite bands...

probably way early to be asking this, but what's the best way to get tickets for the european shows for someone in the states? online through the venue websites?

Depends on the venue. For the Vera show people outside Groningen, or the Netherlands for that matter, can reserve exactly three weeks in advance on their website.
For the show at Paradiso, Amsterdam, you can buy tickets at the Dutch Ticketmaster website. I can notify you in advance when pre-sale starts if you want me to.
For the Sjock Fest show you can probably also buy tickets at their website, like last year when the Sonics played.
And don't worry, all these sites are in English!!!
If you're interested in other shows, let me know and I will find out for you.
Posted: Mar 24, 2009 12:27 pm

Thanks for the info Jasper! I'm interested in Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin prospectively.
Posted: Mar 24, 2009 12:39 pm

For Berlin, tix are already for sale but the website is in German.
Maybe you can arrange something with that Wowsville dude who lives in the neighborhood of that festsaal??
Tix for the Paris show can be bought at this website (in English!) and printed at home. It looks like pre-sale has started on this one too.
And if I were you I would go to the Vera show instead of the Amsterdam show, trust me on that one!!!
Posted: Mar 24, 2009 12:42 pm

Good to know! Thanks. Groningen is accessible by rail yeah? Everything in Holland seems to be.
Posted: Mar 24, 2009 12:45 pm

Yes, Holland is small so you're almost always close to railways.
Groningen is very easy to get to.
Posted: Mar 24, 2009 1:07 pm

Why not going to Groningen and to Amsterdam, like I do!! It is worth it, I am sure.
Posted: Mar 24, 2009 2:38 pm

updates?
Posted: Mar 24, 2009 8:42 pm

For the Münster (or Munster for the americans) show on July the 14th you can already reserve tickets online. Just send an e-mail to tickets@gleis22.de and you got further informations. Münster is in the north-west of Germany and pretty close to the dutch border. The Gleis22
is a venue for max 300 people. Of course Münster (280 000 inhabitants) aint as interesting as Paris or Berlin but you can have a good time here, too! And for the Gories/Oblivians show the venue is perfect, and there will be a Punk/R&R/Garage/Soul aftershowparty. So best plan might be to go to Münster first
and than visit Berlin (4-5 hours away) and see the fantastic double a second time!
Posted: Mar 25, 2009 9:39 am

Thanks for the info Markus!
Posted: Mar 25, 2009 9:49 am

that Wowsville dude

Alberto rules! I'd rather see him than the Oblivians/Gories revival any day.

People, don't give up on the future!
Posted: Mar 25, 2009 11:48 am

Ha Ha, nothing against Alberto (great guy!) but in my eyes thats a little to much honour for him, and maybe you'll met him on the Berlin show (in case he is not perse against reunions like Rich). Dont see the problem; you can see all the fresh new upcoming bands and also see a promising reunion once in a while. Why do i have to decide!? And nearly nobody here in europe had the chance to see the Gories before. From the 35 - 50shows i see per year, maybe 2 are reunions. From the 24 shows i book 1 is a reunion, just to get some perspective. And for most people here, who are busy concert visitors it will also be the only reunion show this year.
Hope the future wont give up on us!
Posted: Mar 25, 2009 2:45 pm | Edited by: rich riggler

Hearing Alberto say Ijjy Pop is far more entertaining than anything The Oblivians or Gories ever did.
Posted: Mar 25, 2009 3:03 pm

Or when he claims the best colored vinyl is "jello". (attempting to say yellow).

Classic!
Posted: Mar 25, 2009 4:36 pm

...oh didnt know Alberto is the new rising comedy star...someone
should give him a tv show! Maybe make him support the
Gories/Oblivians...mmhh no good idea, he would probably steal the show!

Where's the best place for out of towners to stay near The Hi-Tone?
Posted: Mar 26, 2009 3:38 pm

Don't try stealing Alberto from us "Ed." He's MC'ing the Real Wrong Numbers NYC/Thing With 2 Heads revival reunion.
Posted: Mar 26, 2009 4:11 pm

Memphis shows will be on sale Saturday at noon.
www.hitonememphis.com

Call the Artisan Hotel at 901-278-4100. Home of out of towners for Gonerfest. We haven't set up a room deal with them this time, but if you tell them you're coming here for the weekend at The Hi-Tone, they should take care of you. It's right around the corner, they have a pool and don't seem to mind excessive behavior.

Posted: Mar 26, 2009 4:39 pm

Whatever. We'll play Berwyn then. Wherever that is.

See, I was thinking a blowout at Fitzgerald's with Tributosaurus Rex (as Steely Dan) getting the opening slot.

So what's the drive like from Memphis to New Orleans? I am due in New Orleans for a wedding on the 20th. Google maps gives me like a 6 hour drive. Anything out of the ordinary with the drive? Seems like a straight shot to me. Leave Memphis early in the morning puts me in New Orleans by noon, right?
Posted: Mar 27, 2009 12:22 am

wait, so both bands are playing both nights?!
Posted: Mar 27, 2009 8:23 am

Look King Khan, hang loose. We haven't decided anything yet. Of course you can open for us. We'll let you know when everything's planned.
Posted: Mar 27, 2009 8:41 am

I haven't made that drive since pre-Katrina. It used to be a 7 hour drive. You might be able to make it in 6 if you were really hualin ass. Nimereht, both bands are playing both shows.
Posted: Mar 27, 2009 9:30 am

that is sweet
Posted: Mar 27, 2009 2:54 pm

Wait, where are they playing any Detroit? Looks like TWO shows in Memphis. I'll be at all three! Anyone else?

time to sell some plasma at the blood bank!
Posted: Mar 27, 2009 3:27 pm

How big is the Hi Tone? I'm in the process of convincing my girlfriend that it's worth the 15 hour drive but I don't want tickets to sell out before I do it. I'd rather go alone than not go at all.
Posted: Mar 27, 2009 3:37 pm

just buy tix - you can always sell 'em if you can't go.
Posted: Mar 27, 2009 4:18 pm

Yeah, I wasn't really grasping that this was gonna be TWO shows in Memphis. (WOO HOO!) I get it now. The Hi Tone website lists the Memphis shows as Friday, June 19 AND Saturday, June 20 with tickets for these going on sale this Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 12:00 PM. Do it.

Should I enter the name of the ticketholders or do you think it won't matter?
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 12:11 pm

Shouldn't matter too much.

I know with the last Oblivians show at the Hi-Tone that people either sold their extras via an online auction site or couldn't go and gave them up on the cheap to peoples on here and they were able to see the Oblivians.

I'm not going to say that I'm the bestest friend ever, but I know that Dutch is working until 3pm today and I bought an extra pair of tickets for Saturday for him because he's special to me.
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 12:14 pm

got mine for both days.

Artisan has on reserved 75 -100 rooms for Memphis Gay
Pride on the same weekend. They have about 150 rooms total.

So, where are we all staying? I'm cool with whatever at The Artisan but we do want to be at the party hotel.
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 12:21 pm

Gen-X has the plasma screens for a few dollars more. And will definitely have more pride with me and my mimosas by the pool.
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 12:31 pm

Got reservations at the Artisan with no issue...tried to get reservations at Gen X, but they said they weren't booking those days yet/didn't have the rooms priced and that I should call back in 7-10 days.

Huh?
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 12:33 pm

Got mine
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 12:38 pm

I got mine too!

PARTY!
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 2:33 pm

Try booking with the Gen-X online. I was able to get a room that way (last week).

got my tix! Jun 20 - many thanks to John @ the Goner who was kind enough to call me back cuz I'd happened to inquire today. bringing a small crew from ATL as well... all set at the Artisian. gonna be tough to decide whether to hit the hangout action at the pool or the Goner Sto'!

btw: is there any cosmic reasoning behind why my spell check wants to change Goner to goober?
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 4:41 pm

Party of six headed up from Atlanta and booked at the Artisan! Tickets for both nights!

Memphis Pride!!!

got tix for both shows.

anyone traveling to memphis from the columbus/ohio area? mullet?
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 6:46 pm

Which is closer and cheaper artisan or genxinn ?
Posted: Mar 28, 2009 7:15 pm

artisan is definitely within walking distance, not sure about gen x. artisan is also within walking distance of the bucc and has a walgreens and a starbucks across the street which is key for next morning tylenol/gatorade/coffee holy trinity of hangover relief.

So what's the drive like from Memphis to New Orleans?
when we traveled from Memphis to NOLA it was a good 7 hours.

it's a sweatshirt. you ever get a titty hard on when you're wearing one of those? embarrassing.
