Goner Message Board / ???? / Best packaging or insert ever?
Posted: Sep 17, 2008 2:34 am

Something like So Far that has an insert for each song, the Lumbee record that has the drug dealer-Monopoly game, the postcards with Exile On Main Street, the rolling paper with Big Bambu or the panties in School's Out.

The original Live At Leeds?

Live At Leeds
Someone brought this on Antiques Rd Show once. The lady was like, it's worht $4.75.

I had Gerty Farish 10", the sleeve for which turned into a paper model rocket ship. That was kinda cool.

They played my basement when I lived in Chicago. Some disgusting crusties from the H-100s or some other Cleveland band showed up. I mean, besides us who lived in the apt, they were the only ones that showed up.

How come they don't make 5" records anymore?

The Pink Slip Daddy "LSD" EP is a ten inch record on pink vinyl, gatefold cover (a parody of Beggars Banquet.) One side plays at 33, the other at 45. One - or both - sides, I forget which, plays from the inside out. One side has two grooves so its three-sided like that old Monty Python record. There might be a run-out groove as well - can't remember. Guess they were trying to get all the gimmicks on one record.

run-out groove

locking groove.

sounds like a neat-o record!

It's pretty good late 80s garage. Ben Vaughn played with them.

I found a beat up Gordie Howe card in a Steppenwolf record last week.

i can't remember who the fuck it was, but some band put sandpaper in the record sleeve
Posted: Sep 17, 2008 3:07 pm

Sandpaper INSIDE the record sleeve?? Feederz put it on the outside of the sleeve so it would fuck up the records it was next to on the shelf. Neptune (current Boston band who build their own instruments out of scrap metal and light switches and shit--they're awesome live!) released their first album in a metal lp sleeve--it probably weighs like five pounds. Boris' 'Amplifier Worship' cd on Southern Lord comes in a clear green plastic case with a gummy worm encased in the spine! Who thinks of that shit??? I must note that as a label, Southern Lord consistently has the most gorgeous, unique and high-quality artwork, design and packaging of any label by a long shot (speaking specifically of vinyl here).

goner sent me the superman movie record cover as packing material. thats the best i've encountered so far. i promptly taped it to the wall.

I love the jacket for the Beastie Boys' "Paul's Boutique" LP. It's a triple gatefold printed on both sides with a continuous panoramic photo that spans an entire city block (Ludlow and Rivington in Manhattan.) Pretty neato.

Another outside sandpaper sleeve was The Durutti Column's first LP.

Isaac Hayes' Black Moses with the cross fold-out.

I'm holding on to my Mr. T picture disk.

sandpaper in the record sleeve

whitehouse did something like that.

and to toot my own horn, we did a pretty cool tar paper/wax seal cover

Wimp Factor 14 did a single called train song with tar all over it and a penny that had been squashed by a train stuck to it. Those Caroliner rainbow records are my favourites. I like the one wrapped in a shitty, dirty pink t-shirt stuffed in a plastic record sleeve. This record by Sexual Milkshake had inserts, stickers and free mask. UK Subs putting a stencil in one of their albums was a masterstroke, you used to see their name stencilled fucking everywhere as a result.

what about the flipper album, with the flipper on tour board game

Public Flipper Limited. Loved the illustration of the U.S. map on cover. It came with board-game pieces, spinner, etc. Had one of those with everything still intact. Could've sold that thing for mucho $$ had I waited a little while longer for eBay to appear. Shucks.

The Child Molesters 'Brown Album' had an awesome poster insert. Porno-sleazarama collage w/pics of them dressed in Nazi garb and surrounded by young nubile girls. An utmost un-PC thing if there ever was one. It was a beauty...[sigh]

some band put sandpaper in the record sleev

Was that Richard Ramirez or someone? He did that album with the metal sleeve that was welded shut or something.

I've got a pretty cool 7" by Pound of Flesh that's clear vinyl with no label encased between two pieces of 3/8" Plexiglas with neat full color film pieces on either side of the record. Chad did something cool like that with the 2nd Mangina 7".

The Boredoms Super AE had that limited edition blue-goo-filled teething ring type poly-bubble. Not as cool as it sounds though...

Where have I heard that before?

Oh, yeah...

Feederz put it on the outside of the sleeve so it would fuck up the records it was next to on the shelf.

big black "headache" ep black polyvinyl bodybag edition.

-grusome, I'd post a lik but the photos are pretty ugly, look it up yourself if you're that curious.

also their "lungs" ep with the metal sleeve, of which mine unfortunately doesen't have any of the following;

"In the original edition of 'Lungs', there were also supplementary inserts, some of which included: dollar bills, rubber animals, locks of Will Tizzard's hair, tiny fish hooks, cray ola sketches, Trini Lopez albums, bloody gauze, blasting caps, firecrackers, razor blades, squirt pistols (loaded), antique shop cutlery, Bazooka comics, Bruce Lee trading cards, scary photographs, old condoms, and a bunch of other shit."
-- from The Hammer Party liner notes

I've got some pretty cool Coil items with original artwork as inserts but I'm not sure anyone on here around know or cares about them.

There is a trauma edition of one of their releases which is smeared with the blood of Jhon Balance after a psychotic episode which was alcohol related.

A special "Trauma" edition limited to 26 copies (lettered A to Z)
on white or amethyst vinyl in plain white covers smeared with John
Balance's own blood during a "psychotic/demonic episode". These
also contain the cover picture and prints from the amethyst edition
listed above. Initially, only 11 copies were to be sold with the
remainder being held by Coil in their personal archive, but the
edition was expanded due to high demand. -Brainwashed.com

^^^That's nuts. I've got some nice Coil stuff, but clearly nothing like that.^^^

& of course people know about Coil. C'mon, man...

There was a Prisonshake 45 for "120 Days of Sodom" in which they wanted to include actual pieces of shit for an insert, but the idea was "too impractical (and smelly)."
