I'm thinking about getting one, but probably not until next spring. Any recommendations? Do you like your moped?

That's a scooter.

I'm thinking about getting a moped... no motorcycle license, 100+ mpg, easy to fix, etc.

This is sorta funny:

Ok, for some serious advice, a honda wave is your best bet. It's not technically a moped, it's a semi automatic motorbike. It gets awesome gas mileage, it's easy to drive, and it never breaks down. Even if it does break down, it's so easy to fix you can do it yourself.
I must stress that you will not look cool riding this bike! You will look a lot like a gay kangaroo(you'll understand later) while you are riding it, but, who cares? You will have a lot more beer money.
Honda Futures, Suzuki Hayates and Nouvos are all good bikes as well.

it's almost the same as the puch. you're crazy you poser skateboard faggot!
Posted: Aug 11, 2008 6:32 pm
I had pretty much that same Puch. I also had a Peugeot when I lived overseas.

The Puch was way better than the Peugeot. For one thing, it has a variable gear system, not just two gears like the French one.

As you mentioned, the advantage over a Vespa/motorbike/etc. is that with a Moped, it has pedals so classified as a bike and therefore no need for a license, etc., in most states. This means they can't issue you parking tickets, which really matters in SF.

It was pretty dependable and got up all the hills, and maybe topped out at 35 mph. Carrying two people it was slower but could still do it.

You have to mix oil into the gas, 'cause it's a 2-stroke, so if the previous owner didn't do that you would probably need an engine revision. As I recall it has an odometer so at least you can check for low miles.

The hipster crowd here in SF has discovered them so now it's a trend. They even have "moped rallies". Dunno if the mopedists like the Small Faces however.

that's funny. i've seen a couple 'peds around town and finally relaized how beautiful they are. plus my area of town is really low traffic and very, very beautiful, so on a nice day, a moped ride to downtown would be incredibly liesurely.

no, they are more into girl talk and oversized eyeglass rims without lenses. they are belching and spluterring all over chicago. a decently tuned car puts out less pollution than those shit heaps.

mopeds are like fat girls... i wanna stick my thing in both of their tail-pipes!
Posted: Aug 13, 2008 5:54 am
If you're even close to being tall, the low centre of gravity of a small-wheeled scooter means you're cruisin' for serious injury... I speak from experience, having nearly lost an elbow riding my '67 Vespa when I wuz a teen... large-wheeled mopeds be durn uglee, tho, unless you're going for the French teen circa 1970 look... here's an idea, take the bus!
