while the part you speak of does conjure up memories of what I like to think of as "the softer side of Mad Max" (I know, I know, the song wasn't in the movie), I am more partial to the "I... I-I" vocal breakdown of the Gap band's "You Dropped the Bomb on Me".

Flute Solo Appreciation Thread?
The Dutchess and the Duke LP has a flute solo on one song. Better than Tull. The Eric and the Happy Thoughts cassingle has either a flute or a recorder on "Think Happy Thoughts." It totally works.

It totally works.

Of course it works, it's a flute solo! Have you ever known a flute solo not to work?!?!

The pinnacle of all pop-rock flute solos is found in Marshall Tucker Band's "Heard it in a Love Song." They actually END the song with a flute solo! That takes stones. Runner-up is "You Are the Woman" by Firefall. That flutist's vibrato is sick.

"I I-I" is much more exciting than a flute solo that I had to scrape my brain to recall. I mean, is that event a real flute?

Has there really been this many responses that did not include Jethro Tull?

Moondance has some nice flute, as does Goin Up The Country....

Are you sure about this? I need verification! I'd check youtube, but I'm afraid to find out what Firefall looks like.

Listen to it! I guess it could be a piccolo, but it has that Suzuki sound, daddy-o.

hating on all who midi their flutework. you've got the right idea for the sound, but you must use a wind instrument to achieve it.

Nope, you were right. Although I have thought that the flute is just a hair out of tune. Or maybe it's something else on that track.
