for several years, derek hess (http://www.dking-gallery.com/posters/sale/Hess.html) did many of the cool posters in cleveland. he did some memorable posters, a few of which i still own.

chronic cheapskated-ness has prevented me from framing a giant Jesus Lizard poster (http://www.dking-gallery.com/posters/sale/Hess/9526.html) from when they played 3 straight nights at the euclid tavern in the mid-90s.

Rock poster "art" is the worst excuse for an identity I've ever seen....horrible...couldn't believe all the smoke that was blown up those over-inflated douchebags asses in my years in SF....more shit for collector nerds to validate their existence.....

Yeah "hand numbered"!!!

I really don't know why posters meant to "promote the band" should be limited and hard to get your hands on...
doesn't that defeat the purpose of having LOTS of promo posters, so
more people know?

if its art, put it in a gallery! If its a poster, hang it up like a fucking poster.

Quiet, you. Last year I sold a Shellac/Fugazi poster by Jay Ryan for almost $700!

my favorite poster artist is Bobby "fucknut" Louis.

Kozik, I guess. Being a native Austinite, I keep seeing his shit whenever I'm drunk at Emos and looking up. It doesn't distract from the bill because everybody draws like that but it's colorful.

I like Max's Times New Viking poster with the Hello Kitty Reich.

Didn't Kozik do the "loser" series? Sherri? What about the bigass Flinstone BDS&M mural?

Too many to list.

I like Kozik's older stuff a lot better, than Barney Rubble with a dog collar or the unfortunately awful Red Aunt/Cheater Slicks poster sporting Penelope Pitstop. Yeesh.

Pretty good for clip art

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/gmullett/100_2686.jpg

Prime example of Kozik poop. I was screwed, though. I had to get a poster to collect autographs.

Snorkel of Gronigen's legendary Club Vera holds a special spot in my heart. Mara's pretty good, too, but I don't have anything by her.

Hess works.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/gmullett/100_2695.jpg

Ugh, you can have Coop. All he does are Fran Drescher look-a-likes, then adds horns & a tail. The 1st couple were neat. The last thousand got old fast.

I'd add Brian Mercer, but he overdoes the devil thing, too. Probably because he does a lot of metal shows.

Art Chantry's liner notes in the Cheater Slicks CD Don't Like You are right-fucking-on.

I'm not really feeling a lot of the stuff you guys are throwing out there.

I hope we can all agree that Eric HONE is a modern master...

Moscoso

Yeah, while I like Hess & Chantry's work from a decade ago, how can anyone rate that stuff above some of the best shit from the late 60s? Currently there seem to be a good number of talented "rock" poster artists following a long lull.

what? they added lots of neon colors?

I had a huge personal backlash regarding bands that used notorious artists for covers. It seemed for a while there that Sympathy would put out any crappy band, particularly if there was Coop or Pizz artwork on the cover.

It's OK if the band sucks. Just get Peter Bagge to do the cover & it'll sell out in a week!

Meeloo Gfeller / Bongout studio.
Dunno if he's the raddest but he made some really cool gig posters!
I think most of the Yakisakana sleeves are made by him too, along with a lot of sleeves of other European releases.

Lindsey is a dude. Kozik put out our first 7" and lp, Lindsey did our second. Plus we have a poster in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame and several artsy fartsy books because of the posters they did.
