Recently got the 2LP of "Southern Funkin': Louisiana Soul 1967-1979" and it might be better than both the Soul Jazz NOLA funk comps....

HOME IS WHERE THE FLOOR IS!

yes indeed; my second favorite X (Orstralia) song, after "Batman" on Aspirations of course- that song used to get me in trouble at the dorm, 'cause I would crank it up and apparently scream along with it!!

oh, and these days I'm particularly hooked on...

Cheap Time- s/t CD
Bruce Haack- Haackula CD
Big Balls and the Great White Idiot- s/t LP
Eddie & the Hot Rods- Teenage Depression LP [UK version, of course]

I also have a copy of the second Big Balls album (Foolish Guys) on its way from Germany, which I strongly suspect I shall soon be also hooked on...

I dont see how ANYONE can like BOC and ZZ Top and also be listening to utter garbage like Lover in equal measure...it is truly horrible horrible shit. Please explain the appeal...no songs, shit playing, shit recording, total dreck

Some weird Shellac Live thing

"The Futurist"?

(Austrailian) X rules.

The S/T LP from Stepson has been on my heavy rotation. It's a hard rock wet dream from 1974 on ABC Records.

Blank Dogs- On Two Sides LP

finally came in the mail today and I listened to it all the way through around three or four times in a row; I don't do downloading and had forgotten that I really can't on this computer anyway (it has no idea what a .zip file is; fucking Macs sometimes...)- I will not be ordering the cassette version for the car, either, as that seems like a ripoff when I can just make a CDR of the LP with my CD burner and not even have to use a shitty USB turntable to do it, either

oh, and I HATE getting dirty and always have; maybe I'm not a "real man" or something...

Karate Party.
1st listen, but I'll probably come back to it a few times.

Love that one!

I've been listening to Cooper's "Killer" and Mayo Thompson's "Corky's Debt..." at least once a day, sometimes 3 or 4, in the last two weeks. Also rocking the Barbaras 7" quite a bit. That's a charmer.
Posted: May 11, 2008 12:39 pm

My favorite Barbaras tunes still aren't on a record yet, but hopefully they'll be on that LP.

... yeah, Karate Party is good. (for lack of a better term). I particularly enjoy the new Mack Blackout l.p. and I highly recommend it to like-minded individuals out there. In addition to that, if you have good taste like me (and I bet that you do) I really am in the best of spirits when I have a listen to the Meth Teeth e.p.

I'll ask around, I never saw a vinyl of this one. But I know some golddiggers - maybe they have one. I always had this strange notion I'd find it some day in a shitty town in the middle of nowhere.

I also bought the Cheap Time LP, the new Jay Reatard single and Pierced Arrows.
Going to go finally listen to them now.

My playlist from 20 years ago was "Down in the Boondocks" and the Ghostbusters' theme.

"Down in the Boondocks"

I love that song. When one of the most fun things in town was karaoke with Kube @ Cafe Bourbon St., that was one of my favorites. No one would ever pick it & it's such a good song.

We had some awesome times there. "Love Shack" duets with Lara Yazvac. Tommy Shenanigan singing anything, sometimes with a beer in each hand. Jim Shepard singing "New York, New York." Davey Highben would sing Cheap Trick or Van Halen & Lisa Carver was so impressed by his antics, she took him on tour & paid him really good money for being on tour & what he doing. My favorite might've Dave Katznelson. He did "I Write The Songs." He told us in advance & we laughed, but when the song breaks & the crooner gets to scream "I AM MUSIC," it's a pretty fun feeling if you're behind the mic.

T'ain't listenin' to records no more since I fucked up my d.j. mixer one night during a drunken blackout thrashin' and actin' like a maniac. Got a new one coming in the mail (fingers crossed, breath held).

Sorry. Last granny standing died of a violent car accident in March of '89 and I only do dedications to people that are still alive. I stopped playing records because...I fucked up my d.j. mixer one night during a drunken blackout thrashin' and actin' like a maniac.

wasn't trying to be a bring down..just don't understand why you need a mixer to play a record on a turntable...don't just have a plebian style stereo?

and I just stated reviewing records fo the local weekly here

first one - The Resonars
next one - Digital Leather "sorceror"

Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band- Ice Cream For Crow CD
Lee "Scratch" Perry- Chicken Scratch CD (new expanded version)
Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan- Birds Of A Feather LP
Henry Cow- Legend CD every morning when I go to bed
Modeselektor- Ganes De Frau Vol. 1 12" (yes kids, it's tekkno!!)
a whole bunch of 45s

I can't believe that I've been listening to Captain Beefheart for half my life now (since I was 15!!) and had never heard those records before last week- I had heard a couple songs off of Doc on an old SNL rerun I saw years ago, though (it was fucking cool to see Don Van Vliet on TV!!)
Posted: Jul 24, 2008 3:58 am

I hope you aint got those remasterd versions of the Beefhearts that were released a couple o'months back on EMI, cause they suck poopshoot and are an insult to the Captain.
Posted: Jul 24, 2008 3:32 pm

no, I don't; these are the old ones on Virgin (UK) that I saw around when I was a kid- sure, they're not as heinously LOUD as newer CDs but old CDs are fine for home use (not so good in the car, though)

yeah, on a different but related note, I was listening to Nevermind yesterday and it was the same copy I've had since I was 15- wouldn't have it any other way; I may have mentioned I studied audio engineering in college, so I'm kind of an asshole about this whole louder-is-better thing with CDs- OK, there is no "kind of" about it!!

listening to Doc At the Radar Station as I write this, actually
Posted: Jul 24, 2008 4:48 pm

I dunno if you mentioned that, but EMI re-released all that Virgin stuff and remastered it and made the sound of the music fall apart by spreading it all over the place, which is totally the opposite of how Beefheart wanted it to sound.

Stone Harbour- Emerges CD

just arrived in the mail and listening to it for the very first time, but I know already that I'll be playing the shit out of this thing; read about it years ago in Ugly Things (where else right?!) and am finally getting to listen to it- every bit as right up my alley as it sounded like from that review

I liked this thread too...for once I know how it feels to have a dear thread hijacked.

Nanne, you will be gutted like the goat you are and your carcas will be hung on a fence to dry out. You need to make the trip to Nuremberg, go to the Durer house, take particular note of Knight, Death, and The Devil...you are a diseased dog.
