OK, so spring is springin' and I need some new threads. I dropped a ridiculous amount of money last week on waxed linen, black, high-waisted, wide-legged BAD ASS trousers for work and play (Robert Rodriguez) and got a few Forever 21 tops, but where are all you looking for good looking, but REASONABLE deals?

Reports on the following,please:

Charlotte Russe

(Unfortunately there are no H&Ms around here, so please don't suggest.)

Kohls is mostly ick for anything but foundation garments and Levis, but I have found some nice sweaters/slacks there, and saw some cute cropped swing coats. I guess them have some low-end Vera Wang shit there, too...which is extremely out of place and way more than I'd ever spend at that store.

I'm a big fan of Dillards. I can usually find some great dresses on clearance.

I'm reigning in the spending this year and haven't bought much of anything except for some bathing suits from Land's End and a $5 skirt at Target. Looking for a shirred 3/4 sleeve turtleneck to go with it.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 9:11 am
I have never set foot in a Kohl's; I just wondered what the fuss was about.

Dillard's has great sales. I need a short sleeve blouse with a nice big tie like this (this is actually a jacket, but they are making a spring blouse version that is more tailored):

I am in the middle of selling tons of stuff on eBay including two vintage 1977 Club Magazines I found at a yard sale yesterday for a buck a piece. Porn was so much better then.

Porn was so much better then.

I agree 100%. Porn will pretty much be lame until pubes make a comeback.

Went to Kohl's for the first time the other day. Didn't even like the Vera Wang much, except her sleepwear (chubby wang!), got some sexy jersey summer jammies. I pretty much ended up with a bunch of stuff for my kid (I dress vicariously through her, it's so much more exciting), and some new bathroom rugs.

I've got a bunch of 60's and 70's porn too. Pubes, though? All of them? I'm so not sure, and not just because of my job....the muff police. I'm still for controlled muff.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 12:02 pm
Semi-controlled is my game. I hate a "strip". Ugly.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 12:37 pm
strips are creepy...
i say target and nordstrom rack if you have it for work wear. i only still buy stuff at stupid ole thrift stores except for basics. i know its gross but american apparel has a couple tops right now that are super plain and good. but i never dress for weather so...hmmm...

I figure you fashionable ladies can help me- I have been looking online for purses for days and have found jack shit. I'm looking for a nice new roomy shoulder bag that is preferably leather, but also vegan (which I guess is the fashionable way of saying pleather) purses are cool if they're really well made (i.e. Matt and Nat's purses). Anyone know where I might find a good selection of purses in the under $200 range?
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 1:55 pm
Sorry Saispas- not trying to hijack your thread. In regards to your quest- I am on the same one and ventured into a few Portland boutiques the other day- and found not too much, but got a really cute short sleeve sweater-y top and a bunch of Matt and Nat vegan purses that I am tempted to buy. Then I went to the mall which not surprisingly was a horrible experience and looked in all the usual mall places- old navy, Gap, Forever 21, Ross Cross dress for less and Macys. Found nothing worth looking at much less buying. I'm going to go to a few more local boutique places and hope I can find a few things that aren't ridiculously expensive. I second the Nordstroms Rack suggestion. I wish I was waifish- it would be easier to shop.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 2:38 pm
There is supposedly some eco-friendly boutique somewhere (SE Second maybe) where you could find some things. I forgot the name.

Do you have to have vegan? There are some GREAT recycled leather bags made by Ashley Watson (made from old leather jackets) that run between $250 and $500. I bought one last year and it is my favorite still.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 2:59 pm
No, absolutely doesn't have to be vegan- I just noticed that there are a lot of good 'vegan' styled bags out there and I'm interested in seeing more. I'm most interested in good ol' animal skin. But I am looking to stay under $200- as much as I'd love to spend more- I can't! I love these bags, but can't afford them: http://ananascollection.com/store/index.html
I will check out Ashley Watson.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 4:41 pm | Edited by: saispas
Oh those Ananas bags are GREAT. I say spend a few more bucks on the Ashley Watson's; they are very original and mine has held up like a champ. I know they have them at that Portland boutique b/c my friend bought one there.

Here it is:

I have a green Junco:

Where you you bitches get that kind of disposable income?
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 5:41 pm
VISA and MasterCard!

Certain things are worth the extra money. It all balances out when you get cheap Forever 21 crap.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 6:09 pm
Wowza. I love the Ashley Watson bags. I still have trouble parting with more than $100 for anything though. I'm trying to stop myself from buying large quantities of super cheap crap and start buying a small amount of higher quality things that will last longer but it's hard when you're a cheap ass like myself. Saispas- I just went to Moxie in Portland and found some cute stuff- Any other boutique-type suggestions here that aren't too expensive?
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 6:17 pm
Everything there that I really love is expensive: Una and Stand Up Comedy and Halo and Le Train Bleu. Moxie was good for the cute stuff for not much money. Try Foundation Garments--I think they are on Alberta.

I have never set foot in a Kohl's; I just wondered what the fuss was about.

They got freaky shopping carts! Never been in one, myself, but I test drove one of their shopping carts the other day.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 8:02 pm
Right by the Kohls there's a Bed Bath and Beyond. One day I needed bookends, for in my bedroom (I could actually use a pair in my bathroom, too). I figured Bed Bath and Beyond's gotta have 'em. But Noooo! Asked the teenager with a name tag if they had them. She said "What's a bookend? What do they do?" All hope is lost for this generation of teenagers...

Ashley Watson...cute bags! Love the white one...but it would become filthy the moment it left the house. Why not a Matt and Nat, Franny? They're real cute, good pockets, interesting zipper configurations... I'm in the market myself, and I've never spent more than $50 on a purse. I tend to rotate quite a bit and cheap totes are pretty cute sometimes. I can never seem to get all my shit out of the last one I used...but I get to rediscover a lip gloss or something when I pull out an old one....happy amnesia!
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 9:14 pm
The white one looks more like mine as there are small (huge) and large (massive) juncos...I think the blue is the massive tote size. The small is so damn big, but she has to make it that way because of her clever slash pockets detail! Her wallets are awesome too. I am very impressed with her whole operation; rather genius.

I fell in love with a cream-and-burgundy crinkly patent leather Marc Jacobs bag at Nordstroms the other day, but it was likely over $400 and I had just spent $300 on those fancy linen pants...so no dice.
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 9:24 pm

Only $332!

(Good thing I have no more money--or access to-- for awhile)
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 11:54 pm
Effin' cute...what's with the white gloves?
Posted: Mar 15, 2008 12:48 pm
Kohls is mostly ick for anything but foundation garments and Levis

Levis is about all the fashion a broad needs. A nice butt stuffed into a pair of 501's induces insanity. When I see one in the store, the motion is so mesmerizing, I just follow her around the store, ackin' like I'm about to buy some kiwi mango facial mask when I get caught.

Sometimes female execu-wear gets me sprung too...but mainly 501s.

Where are 501's that you can "stuff" into? All my 501's are very boyish and hang loose. You are likely looking at 517s or another tight cut. Even if I wore a pair of 501's that were constricting my waist, there would be a long space for a "package" in the front and lotsa straight leg room. Maybe these are just the vintage cut 501's that I have.

Just got home from Neiman's Last Call outlet store. 2 pair Hanky-Pankies in rad colors for $12 ea, and perfect Marc by Marc pants for $35!!!

Oh hells no, SSSSSS!

Like this
Posted: Mar 16, 2008 5:00 pm
What are Hanky-Pankies?

I scored 2 Wacoal bralettes for $24 at Nordtrom last night; I also tried on this adorable dress by their Halogen label...but resisted. It was $132!!! It was like a better cut Forever 21 garment; how do they get away with this?
Posted: Mar 16, 2008 5:09 pm
hanky pankies are underpants.
Posted: Mar 16, 2008 5:10 pm
ps i went into an F21 hole this weekend. 2 bohemian tops and some long chains and some chandelier type earrings. i bought the look hook line and sinker...oh well, the whole thing only set me out 50 bucks.

High waisted pants with crop tops.

Hey Alex, when do we get to see your new line of stuff???
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 2:48 pm
High waisted pants with crop tops.

Love it. Or at least short, regular hems. I have a HELL of a time finding shorter hemmed shirts for my high waist pants. Esp. tees.
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 2:51 pm
Oh yeah, who is making a good GREY or washed out black denim jean?
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 3:16 pm
High waisted pants with crop tops.

I'm for this too, though not too extreme, and tops that are fitted, not boxy...yeah, hard to find, unless you're a "tucker".

HELP! I'm having a huge internal debate over these shoes right now. I tried them on...super comfy. I never buy this color shoe either, but always seem to need them. It's a lot of shoe... hideous or awesome?

Posted: Mar 19, 2008 3:57 pm
Get em.

Yeah, and I'll probably just wear them with jeans like everything else, that cognac color looks good with blue.

I like those little silver sandals. Hey......I always find great tops on the Anthropologie sale racks...lots of in-season stuff, pretty cheap.

I hate a "strip". Ugly.

Back to pubes for a sec...because I forgot to mention that at work we use the terms "Tostitos" and "Doritos" which I find amusing...I strongly prefer "Doritos".
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 4:35 pm

Yeah! I totally forgot about them; I found two of my fave work standards on that store's sale rack. I have to drive to Tampa, but it might be worth it.

I don't get it. Cause they're shaped like triangles?
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 4:42 pm
Tortilla triangle vs strip chip.......yep.
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 4:48 pm
I LOVE the Anthropologie sale rack! I used to hit that action monthly. My current favorite blouse and my favorite sweater were sale rack scores from there. So sad they don't have a store in Memphis. Their sizes are a bit screwy and vary too greatly for me to order their stuff on-line. Gotta go to Nashville soon, I guess.
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 10:29 pm
i like dorito triangle ...ha ha..gotta tell the girls that one at the next estheticians \"guild\" meeting....aka drinking white wine at the bar and bitching about work
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 10:38 pm
Gotta go to Nashville soon, I guess.

Hey, you and I can carpool every once in awhile; it will be worth it.

The "strip chip" is exactly what that looks like!
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 10:40 pm
So I ended up with this top and these bottoms (tightened up so they're less skirt-y) for vacation. I haven't worn a bathing suit since 1999, and it was hard to find one that wasn't either juniors-looking with little in the way of titty support or old lady hibiscus swim dress. I need to find a skirt or some kind of cover up, though.

I still wear teeny lil bikinis...I hate the feeling of fabric on my stomach out at the beach. I am contemplating this look though:

http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp;jsessio nid=903632D8610C72E504A1636D58AA8281.app11-node3?itemdescription=true& itemCount=60&id=14451454&parentid=W_APP_SWIMWEAR&sortProperties=&navCo unt=7&navAction=jump&color=

But now that I look at this picture of it, it really looks like shit. I think I will stay with the bikinis.
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 11:02 pm
It looks a little like she tried to tuck her underwear into a bikini top.
You would rock it better than Miss Confused in the picture, though.
Posted: Mar 19, 2008 11:14 pm
Hate to rain on this fashion parade, but the guy that owns Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie donated, like, 10 grand to Rick Santorum's political efforts. Just so you know.

Word....well not that teeny...gotta keep the girls in line. Yep lycra shit on my stomach makes me nuts as well...my feet are also like that, I can't sleep in socks.

But now that I look at this picture of it, it really looks like shit.

That is freaking me out. It reminds me too much of Borat....plus Paris Hilton.

I did not know that, but I did know this:

Santorum Pronunciation: san-TOR-um
Function: noun
1. The frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. 2. Senator Rick Santorum

Man, what is the fascination with Posh?!?!?!? She is so hideous.

I am buying these with some of the money I just made on eBay; sure I won't wear them for a year, but they are good for winter and these kind of boots look really good with jeans and certain dresses; they are very 1992:

these kind of boots

Oh my lord! Not sure why I'm surprised, but I've been looking for that exact boot for the last year. I found perfect little vintage army boots in Hawaii in 1989....I loved them so... wearin' 'em with everything from cut-off Ben Davis' and peasant tops, to big fluffy skirts. They totally replaced my Monkey boots. Holy shit, I want them too!

Got those Frye heels today...they're pretty sick. Also found a store that carries Ashley Watson bags...going to visit them Sun...I'm in trouble.
Posted: Mar 25, 2008 1:33 pm
Yeah, I am all in trouble too but I am feeling much better about my clothes sitch. Got this killer James Perse hoodie that is more like a weirdly constructed jacket with a big collar (the "collar" is the hood). And then a few more Forever 21 items, including a stretch denim pencil skirt.

Now, query of the day: Has anyone bought new Levis with women's sizing, not by waist size? I am looking for Levis cords and there are some for dirt cheap in a size 4 and 6 online, but as they have no sizing chart on their site, can't really figure that out as I am sometimes a 4, sometimes a 6.
Posted: Mar 25, 2008 2:42 pm
Here's a better query - aren't there any "thick" goner women?

I need some cute stuff for a short round body.
Posted: Mar 25, 2008 3:44 pm
I still want my query answered...can't help I lost some damn weight! I think compared to many I might even be considered "thick" in this weird society. Remember, size 6 is approaching Plus Size in Tyra's World.

So true... hey, I usually wear a 4/6 and love levi's, and I always get a 4, and they fit perfectly to slightly loose. I can fit into a 2 in Levi's - they run a bit big.
Posted: Mar 25, 2008 4:04 pm
I bought these, and I swear they are a size 8, even though the sizes are listed by waist # here. They are a little loose, but comfy, and I'm a pretty true size 8. I also got some sort of reissue 501's in a 28 and a 29, I wear them according to my ass fat at the time (today it's the 29's).

What does this "tilted" thing mean? Does it help women with big butts (me) look good in skinny legged jeans, cos if so, SIGN ME UP!!!

I am going for the 4; you know how jeans do, esp. cords. STRETCH OUT.

I have about three pair of wide legged trousers to take to an alterations place and I gotta do it pre-move to Memphis to be ready to look sharp for work. I am terrified to just choose one of these foreigners to take care of it. I had a Polish woman in Portland who was the biggest racist ever and would make disparaging remarks about the dark-skinned tailors and how I was doing the "right thing" coming to her. I was so conflicted about it, but damn if she wasn't the best!
Posted: Mar 25, 2008 4:19 pm
"Tilted" refers to the waistband which V's in front, higher in back (no ass crack show!). They are stretchy too. Which ones are you getting? I just tried on some AG cords on sale at Anthro and they were awesome but still $80...so no go.....yet.

Tailoring sucks, it's nothing like the "What Not To Wear" hosts describe. Some shit costs as much as the garment itself to alter, and it's usually a disappointment when you get things back. Nightmare!
Posted: Mar 25, 2008 4:59 pm | Edited by: saispas
That is why I wish I had my Polish racist back; she was amazing. Expensive, but worth it. I am getting all pants done--hems--as you know (well, maybe you don't because I believe you are tall) but the hemlines on all pants tend to be for women who are 5'7" at least. I am 5'4" almost 5'5" so petites are too short and the rest too long.

I am going for Levi's cords...maybe. They only have the most bland colors left. I want some deeper colors that would pass muster for work on casual day.

Hey Windy, you look great. As far as the size issue: Some of my sexiest friends are/have been size 12-14 or thereabouts...all poured into their Betsey Johnson dresses. I was a 12 after my kid was born. Work it...wear things tight, show cleavage, curves rule. I see bigger sizes all over the place, Old Navy, Anthro, Forever 21, just not as plentiful as the size 2's and 4's. I'm not naturally skinny or small, but I'm in OK shape finally, and I work really fucking stupidly, ridiculously hard at it... can't apologize for that.

I say check Banana Republic's sale rack right now, Windy, there were tons of sexy dresses and tops when I looked yesterday and at least here in the land of eating disorders and plastic surgery and personal trainers, there was nary a size 2 or 4 left. I don't know how "thick" you are or anything about how you look and I suppose you don't know that about me either, but yeah, I hate all the hate on either side of the fence. I am no longer the "string bean" (though short) I was for eons, but I can't tell you the abuse I took for that. Grass is always greener.
Posted: Mar 26, 2008 8:15 am
Oh, there's tons of cute stuff out there, but most of it isn't flattering. sigh.

I wish they would stop making clothes in larger sizes (10+) that don't flatter larger sized bodies.
Posted: Mar 26, 2008 8:19 am
oh, and the Vera Wang stuff at Kohl's looks very cheap. It was all on sale last weekend at ok prices, but didn't seem worth it.

I pulled out an old Banana Republic thrift store find. It actually looked pretty nice. Maybe I need to *gasp* set foot in a mall....
Posted: Mar 26, 2008 1:24 pm
I like the Banana Republic SALES. It is too expensive for what you get at full price.

The mall was fully depressing the other day, except for Forever 21, which is always so full of steals. I went to Dillards for the first time and no fucking way was I spending money on the crap they had there. My shopping game from now on is going to consist of some expensive stuff from places like Nordstroms and indie boutiques and online mixed with some Forever 21 mixed with some Banana Republic sale stuff here and there.
Posted: Mar 26, 2008 2:11 pm
I am freaking out over all the cute stuff out this season. Like seriously. Last year everything sucked. Last month's W had all these cute stocking things and Penguin and Ben Sherman are killing me with their dresses. Why do I have no money? And I used to hate Steve Madden. Like with a passion. And now he's putting out all these cute shoes. I'm even looking at bikini's. Wtf
Posted: Mar 26, 2008 2:21 pm
oh, and the Vera Wang stuff at Kohl's

I like the weird advertisement models V.wang picks out.

They look like K.Hicks on smack

You are so wrong for that! Anyway yeah where is all my damn money? I cannot get enough clothes!!! I know what you mean about Steven Madden too. He is suddenly 10x less cheap-looking.

Bad news. Discovered Off 5th yesterday in an outlet mall in some shithole Florida interstate town. That place is incredible.
Posted: Apr 1, 2008 8:34 pm
Off 5th

My husband managed one for 6 months when we moved here...it was the only job he could find, and it was the saddest identity crisis I've ever seen watching him go to work every day....that said, both our wardrobes improved muchly!!
Posted: Apr 1, 2008 8:38 pm
Mine is in a similar situation managing a restaurant; he loves serving, but managing is a whole 'notha can of worms.

But, yeah, I can only imagine. I was really grossed out though by the exorbitant prices on the true designer stuff. It was beautiful and so well made, but my GOD. $1500 on sale????

Still, I got some great stuff for work that still looks really cool; hard to find that...and I will be going back down for a pair of $75 Prada sunglasses, best believe!!!
Posted: Apr 1, 2008 8:45 pm
Someone broke the window of my car for the Gucci shades I got there...tip: don't leave 'em in the case with the name on it. Most amazing sunglasses I ever had......motherfuckers!

One of the better perks of his job there was I got a special Saks credit card that was good for 35% off at the regular store too...helloooo MAKEUP!!
Posted: Apr 1, 2008 9:01 pm
The best deals were in shoes. They had been pretty picked over by yesterday b/c there was some crazy Sidewalk Sale last weekend with all the stores, but I got a pair of BCBG metallic low wedges/skimmers for $60 and a pair of army green John Varvatos limited edition jack Purcells for $24 because it was buy one/second pair 1/2 off. I also got a kick ass pair of Nanette Lapore pants and some other things. There was this incredible, very Ossie Clark silk Anna Sui dress for $179 with an extra 20% off, but I could not justify it. I already have 3 Anna Sui dresses and I wear them maybe once every year and a half they are so delicate.
Posted: Apr 1, 2008 9:18 pm
I still wear a Michael Kors wool trench, Prada boots, Urchin and Tse cashmere sweaters, and a whole shit ton of Marc by Marc from there. My favorite Marc Jacobs piece is a tuxedo jacket in navy blue with black silk lapels!!! I also have a cute Nanette Lepore dress that I need to get taken in and a few things to sell, because they are too big now. I don't remember any Anna Sui.....I'll have to get back. Still regret not popping for some Miu Miu green kitten heels for $150...

One January, employee sale on top of sale time, Jason and his brother got like 5 overcoats each for $15 a piece. Burberry and Italian cashmere! Most of them still have the tags on. Ridiculous tie collection. Now he wears Carharts and 501's to work and is 1000% happier.
Posted: Apr 1, 2008 9:41 pm
The mens shoes were all fantastic too and then they had all the cute Munsingwear and Ben Sherman that I love for Ryan. Cheapola too, but Ryan still (and rightly so) thinks it is way too much. He got two pair of loafers (for work) for $90. I didn't even look at the clearance racks b/c I knew i just could not do it. I saw tons of Theory sweaters too...next time!

My fave purchase of the day was actually at the Adidas outlet--limited edition, high top, shell toe, true blood red leather embossed with a tiny "diamonds" pattern that resembles reptile skin--completely ridiculous, completely gorgeous. $20.

Did you just throw the random comfy shit on? Well, I am in an American Apparel two toned muscle shirt (gray/taupe) with lime green ancient thrased J crew yoga pants! Hot!

I went to the BCBG outlet too--finally, they were selling their cheap-ass Cambodian slave shop gear at reasonable prices! I found this killer pair of navy brushed cotton skinny pants with these weird satin stripes running criss-cross all over them--$19 and the first skinny pants to ever look sexy on my big hips!

Lucky! I found one once, but it was around $30 and too big in the old busty.

I bought those engineer boots I posted a couple of weeks ago and they are better than I thought. The only problem is that the exterior zippers that would theoretically make them easier to get on and off are heavy duty, rough brass and I still have to unlace/lace them to get them off/on. Which means breakage of long laces, which means HARD TO REPLACE.

Basically, I have to start selling tons of stuff on eBay now and quit buying more stuff. I have plenty to get me through interviews and about 2 weeks of summer Memphis.

What I do need now are summer weight hosiery that doesn't look like Hooters girls and isn't too dark...Nordstroms maybe? I need to get the good stuff.

I gots on pink H&M drawstring "genie" PJ pants, a grey Old Navy tank and an American Apparel green hoodie... also heinous pink fuzzy "sherpa" slippers that my Mom gave me...
I'm a Mom so I never shop on the weekends. I went to an amazing hockey game with my brother in law and 3 of his friends and got rowdy drunk... also saw a gal from work debut her burlesque act... watched her and left early, what a snooze!

I still haven't found a goddamn purse even though I've brought my internet purse shopping to new levels. Bought one from endless.com (Amazon's purse/handbag offshoot) and when I received it it was spectacularly ugly and cheap looking so I returned it. That's what I get for ordering a Jessica Simpson purse- I'll just go ahead and admit to that lapse of judgment- it looked cute in the picture, that's my only defense. Other than that, had some great clothes finds at Nordstrom Rack which consoled me a bit. AND found an awesome boutique in my hood which is very expensive but worth it because the lady who runs it designs most of the stuff herself and uses beautiful materials.
I still want a big black leather purse though!

Yesterday, Levi's store: Vintage style, buckle-back, trucker jacket and a pair of 501's - $20 each!

I've got an Ashley Watson bag on hold at a store right now...I wanted red, or dark purple, but they only had green and navy...what to do....hmmmm?
Posted: Apr 3, 2008 11:04 am
I love my forest green one...but I can understand wanting dark purple. I have a red baguette bag everyone STILL compliments me on, just because it is red.

My new fave rave is the Aerosole mid-heel sandal or pump! Seriously folks. Sure, they have some grandma shoes up in there, but some of there heels are bitchen. I have been unable to wear real heels in years and have been wearing these (probably 2.5" heels) for 2 days, no pain! And they are cute.

summer weight hosiery
The only ones I could ever stand to wear were calvin klein - they made a petite length that were actually comfortable. which for me is saying a lot.

My nails are usually long and almost always tore my hose. The CK's lasted me at least 5 wears where most others I could get one maybe two uses.

I dont know where you find them now as I haven't needed to wear pantyhose in years(hallelujah!) They might not be made the same. good luck with that one. I hate pantyhose

i'm an aerosoles lover! all the boots, and they knocked off some good ones this year are great...patent leather wedges...love em. i got some gold saturday night fever sandals that i love too...their shit is always on some kind of sale too...

I got mine at the Aerosoles Outlet Store--buy one get one free! I felt rushed and quit looking for a second pair.

I'm glad someone else feels this way. As a big busted lady it really sucks trying to wear any of that stuff because it makes you look like you're wearing a tent. Plus it's just plain ugly.
Saispas- you had recommended boutiques in Portland before- did you ever go to IDOM on Alberta and 16th? It's GREAT!
Posted: Apr 3, 2008 9:15 pm
That wasn't open when I was there; Portland "blew up", as they say, immensely over 2007. I have read about it though and it seems great.

I am going to Memphis tomorrow for the Tigers game (gotta watch it with my people) and a JOB INTERVIEW for a great job (!!!) and I spent the last hour trying on clothing and packing and still don't have it down. The sucky thing is I have some great work blouses and pants for the interview...and no blazers! The only two I have are two big and shitty Target ones.

I'm going to have to get one in Memphis. Spending money on a BLAZER. Ick. Any hints for good dept stores for such things? I would love a linen one.

All mine are vintage, pretty much...I just wore my Grandma's bright red Pendleton blazer to her service...she made us promise we wouldn't wear black.
I also love my hot pink Western detailed one...

What about the Banana? Or JCrew...

Someone broke the window of my car for the Gucci shades I got there...tip: don't leave 'em in the case with the name on it. Most amazing sunglasses I ever had......motherfuckers!

someone stole my gucci shades off my desk at work. that sucks really bad cuz i don't pay much money for anything else since i'm a total cheapass and buy almost everything at the thrift store, but i'll shell out some mucho dinero on some sunglasses. and i'll be damned if someone didn't jack em. they were in the case sitting on my cubicle desk. grrrrrr.

And another thing, I am SO SICK OF THE TUNIC.

Can we please move on from Pregnancy Fashion???

tell me about it. those thangs are FUGLY. make even skinny lil girls look like they're prego.

i want a big gigantic hideous yellow purse. i have problems.

What about the Banana? Or JCrew...

Banana might be the best place. J Crew clothes fit like CRAP. At least on me they do. Everything except their yoga pants and swimsuits that is! I am still so in debt to them for charging tons of stuff 5 years ago.

I keep my Marc Jacobs sunglasses in my bag at all times. I am going back down to Off 5th ASAP to get these killer white pearl Prada sunglasses marked down about 65%. Gotta have em.

I used to wear the tunic all the time when it was vintage, then I bought a few last year. I gots the small chesty so they looked pretty good, but they are so everywhere that they simply don't look good at all. I was just looking for a cheap cotton top at target for work and everything was tunictunictunic.

s.pas, good luck on your interview!!!!! gina might have a blazer you could borrow, she's a workin memphis lady!!!
Posted: Apr 3, 2008 11:29 pm
J Crew junk fits me like crap in a totally different way...tight on the titties, gaping between buttons etc. I used to get pants there all the time...I havent looked at a catalog or set foot in a store in at least 3 years...too boring, and all the whales and anchors and shit drive me nuts. But a linen blazer they just might have...

Yeah! Good luck with the interview!

Empire waist, poofy baby doll tunic=bad
Long, fitted, shows the curves tops=not too bad
Posted: Apr 4, 2008 6:42 am
J. Crew's pants always make me feel like I am trying to wear men's pants: boxy, rumply and cheap. But, yeah, you right...linen blazers might be up in there. Thing is I need BLACK to go with these bitchen high waist pants I got awhile back.

I look best in the empire waist ones that aren't all poofy sleeved and a-line; just the subtle cuts that tend to be the vintage ones. The longer tunics emphasize my small bust and curvy hips.

I cannot believe I am boarding a plane home in a couple of hours! I started freaking out about the interview around 6 AM and it isn't til Monday!

I tried on a dress yesterday, at 1/2 price it was $500...Alessandro dell'Acqua...it was the best fitting, most amazing dress I've ever worn. It was fucking excruciating to walk away from it. I now want all my clothes to look like this collection from a few seasons ago:

That third look, the suit, is exactly what I am looking for!

...and another thing:

Anyone know where I might find a good selection of purses in the under $200 range?

YES!!!! Saw these today and they are wonderful!

The 3 "Vyntage" styles were my favorite, great colors...really nicely made.

I always have really good luck with purses at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, sometimes Ross. Gotta go to the ones in the ghetto though. The only things snatched up at the ones downtown are Baby Phat and Rocawear.
