Starting in early 2001, I kept up a blog pretty consistently (posted 3 or 4 times a month) for about 3 1/2 years. I stopped in late 2004 when I changed jobs (and had less time to dilly-dally on the web all day), got generally more busy in my life, and found out that people I knew had started reading it regularly, which made me uncomfortable.
When I started it, it was a way for me to keep up my personal writing style at a time when my job required very dry, objective narrative writing on a daily basis (for government documents). It also helped me to better remember events, travel, bands, great restaurants and all the things that I love (because I have a TERRIBLE memory). And to vent, as needed, instead of going postal. I looked back at it recently for the first time in over a year and was surprised to see how well I'd documented some pretty big events in my life - including meeting some of my favorite Goners back before this board was around!
