My wife, the biggest Jaws fan ever, was shocked.
"How can you be shocked"
"He wasn't that old, was he?"
"In his seventies."
"Really?"
"O.k., think about how he looked in Jaws. They were smoking in a hospital."
"Oh, yeah."

No love for Marathon Man. Dustin Hoffman is great in that movie, too.

RIP.

No shit, when I think of Hoffman or Scheider I think of MM before anything else. Yet when I think of Sir Laurence I think of Sleuth and when I think of William Devane I think of Falcon Crest--weird, eh?

Ditto!

I think of All That Jazz and French Connection. He was recently on Criminal Intent...RIP.

"Jaws" is the prime example of the movie being(much) greater than the book.
Posted: Feb 11, 2008 11:21 am

JAWS is spielberg's finest work. he should have called it a day in 1976.

I thought there were sharks in my grandparents East Memphis pool. Well, maybe there were.

Speaking of smoking in hospitals, I watched some of Ordinary People the other night and Judd Hirsch was smoking in his therapy sessions with Timothy Hutton. Maybe that would make things easier for me and my clients?

Especially if the smoke was from spontaneous combustion

For some reason, I only think Sharks are coming after me when I\'m swimming in pools; never in the ocean.

I\'ve seen sharks in the gulf; they weren\'t very big, but I still caught the first wave I could and got the fuck out of there.

I have no idea what the fuck those slash's are about.

The Seven-Ups: Great, underappreciated cop movie with a car chase the equal of Bullitt:

Almost no dialogue for 10 minutes. Awesome. Roy's driving a Pontiac Ventura.

I bought aviator-style sunglasses back in the 70s because of his character in Jaws. RIP Roy, you were one cool guy.

Rich if you get the chance watch The French Conncection. One of the best films from the 1970's. The chase scene is not to be missed.

No shit, when I think of Hoffman or Scheider I think of MM before anything else.

I gotta say that I think of Jaws before I think of anything else when the topic is Scheider, but I remember Dad liking & watching Marathon Man a lot when I was a kid. "Is it safe?"

When the subject is Hoffman, I used to think Kramer v Kramer or [/i]Tootsie[/i]. Now, I'm all about [/i]Straw Dogs[/i].

I can quote that speech line for line. That breath he lets out after "rip you to pieces" gets me every time. Robert Shaw, man. What a fuckin' badass.

I think it is headed to the top of my Netflix queue.

Yeah, it's been forever for me too, since I was a teenager... remember thinking it was the saddest movie I'd ever seen.
Posted: Feb 13, 2008 7:53 pm

It was one of those movies I just happened upon in the middle of a marathon HBO viewing session. It was perhaps the only time in 11th grade that my dad sat down with me and watched a movie and talked with me...so yeah, sadness all over the place!
