Anyone else see this? Pretty twisted. High school chemistry teacher gets terminal cancer diagnosis so he starts his own mobile meth lab. Original series on AMC.
Posted: Jan 25, 2008 9:13 pm

Looks interesting. It figures that a Yooper would be into a show about clandestine meth labs.
Posted: Jan 25, 2008 9:15 pm

I watched the first episode and it was great.
Posted: Jan 25, 2008 9:29 pm

Yoopers?

YIPPIE!
Posted: Jan 25, 2008 8:46 pm

Two thumbs up from me. The show that is, not Yoopers.

...OK, Yoopers too.

The Yooper Nun is kinda hot.

Why is it that public school teachers are always portrayed as having some incredibly seedy private life in tv or movies? I am a public school teacher and I can tell you nobody is doing anything like doing/making hard drugs, sleeping with students, etc.

I'm not complaining as I got laid simply by the fact that I was a teacher and the girl was ready to act out all of her teacher fantasies.
Posted: Jan 26, 2008 8:39 am

I disagree - some teachers I know fit into that mold quite nicely.
Posted: Jan 27, 2008 3:13 pm

We watched the pilot. It didn't do anything for me.

network regected the series till the writers struck..

Me and my wife have burned through the first 3 seasons of this.....fucking brilliant. Anyone else caught on?

tet68 :(

I'm a fan. Will be much more so once skyler and/or hank get taken out.

It's like MacGyver, but if MacGyver was a felon. And he's not handsome like the old MacGyver, because he has cancer.

In other words I think this show is stupid.

Love DA YOOPERS though.

It is really well shot in that you feel like you are in on the action, but I'd prefer that it was about anything other than meth production so that I could really enjoy it. The depiction is an accurate portrayal of the Albuquerque I've known, showing the remnants of the trashy wild western town it's always been to the low tax, high desert refuge it's recently become to fleeing Californians.
Posted: Jul 28, 2011 11:59 am

i like the Albuquerque setting, but as noted by others, the plot device of him keeping his cancer secret for so long was annoying and phony.

i liked the fact that his sidekick's trustfunder galpal woke up dead.

Did no one else catch the Oh Sees on the show tonight?
Posted: Sep 19, 2011 12:37 pm

I am stilll on Season 3 with the DVDs. Kinda underwhelmed right now.

Seems like they'll do anything to keep on carrying on. Now that his cancer is cured, why is he still cooking meth?
Posted: Sep 19, 2011 4:06 pm

This season has progressed very slowly. However ,this weeks episode had a higher excitement level. As much as I love this show ,it has never had me leap off the couch like many scenes in the Sopranos though (like the murder of cocksuckah Ralphie f,rinstance).

I agree that season three was slow, and I hated the whole storyline about the jet crash in earlier episodes.

However, I really liked the way season three went out. It was getting pretty tense between Walt and his boss, and I loved that cliffhanger scene at the end where Jesse has the gun on Gail!

Unfortunately I was watching it through netflix and will have to wait to see the fourth season.

It's in remission. Could return at any time. Oh, and of course, he can't possibly get out of the biz without dying first.

Oh, and if you are a Dish customer and haven't heard that Dish has dumped AMC from its channel lineup, AMC will be streaming the premiere on their website.

Yeah. I've got to get my cable situation sorted out swiftly!

Breaking Bad is obviously one of the greatest shows of all time, but I just can't watch anything week to week any more. Netflix and dvds and itunes have completely ruined me. I last tried it with Walking Dead....abandoned it. Not the show, I'll watch 'em all eventually.

Rewatched Season 4. Ready for the next! SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY.
Posted: Jul 16, 2012 8:48 am

Well, that was awesome last night.

Interesting how they addressed two question marks: one, was how would Mike react to the killing of Gus? Interesting solution to that problem. Second, was that they left no room for anyone to question whether Walt poisoned the kid. If you had a sliver of doubt, that doubt was erased and the writers wanted you to know that Walt is a bad motherfucker.

I dug the magnet stuff too. It was like some weird, inside-out heist, and who doesn't love a good heist?

Also, that Beneke is not dead...
Posted: Jul 16, 2012 9:23 am

kind of a slow moving episode, but with a bunch of badass parts. Skylar is going to need to learn that there is no such thing as "someone who won't talk" in the drug trade.

Kinda ridiculous but a good start to the last season. Lots of devastation coming. Excellent 1st flash forward bit, too.

Has it been confirmed that this is, indeed, the last season?

I'm just impressed that Bruce watched all of season 4 and all of season 5 (so far) in a day.

While not testing her endurance nearly as much Bruce did, Fierydrunk has to watch Seasons 2-5 by 9:30pm, Sunday night so we can watch episode 2 together.

Yes. 8 episodes in 2012, then 8 more some point in 2013 then it's done.
However, there is talk of a spin off

I guess it's better that they go out on top of their game. I liked the first season but stopped watching it during the second season because it started to bore me. Caught up with it when last season started. Still think the second season was kind of lame but I can't think of another show that improved so dramatically from one season to the next.

I'd be stoked for a Saul Goodman spin-off. He rules!
Posted: Jul 25, 2012 8:21 am

I am all about some more Mike. I think it's a bad sign that the two men he brought on to be in his own operation are two men that hate his guts and have no loyalty to him whatsoever.
Posted: Jul 25, 2012 9:56 am

Saul rules!
Posted: Jul 25, 2012 4:52 pm

Mike is cool but doesn't have anything to do with Saul. Saul is funny with Walt & Jesse.

If he starts representing Hank, look out.

Like the new woman. Though she should already be dead.
Posted: Jul 26, 2012 2:22 am

I've heard a couple people say that Mike is basically a comic book superhero at this point, which is accurate. The man is omniscient.

Even though I haven't really loved the first two episodes this season, I trust the Breaking Bad creative people enough at this point to believe they will create something incredibly entertaining. I'm hoping for plenty of Pinkman payoff this season as well as many shots inside Saul Goodman's office as possible. That office is the greatest room in television history--the columns, the round windows, the constitution on the walls. Perfect!
Posted: Jul 26, 2012 1:23 pm

well, gus was a superhero, and so is walt. They've all done things that you won't get away with "in real life."

but then again, so was Omar, and he was the best thing by far on the Wire.
Posted: Jul 26, 2012 1:41 pm

Posted: Jul 26, 2012 2:30 pm

Walt doesn't understand any of the ramifications of what he's doing.

Oooh, that smell.

True. I also feel like they will both end their superhero run the same way. Obviously, that's just a guess.

I feel like Walt is more of a bumbling "hero" than a superhero. Obviously, he always seems to come out ahead, but I don't feel like we're supposed to think that it's because he's so good--like we are with Mike. Of course, it helps that we've seen Walt work through and nearly fuck up all of his schemes, while Mike just appears on screen and shoots someone through a wall or hangs a stuffed pig on the door. Walt's clearly very smart, but he still strikes me as a goof who has fallen ass-first into everything.

With no one after him so far, Walt has got to be the full-on villain this season. The first two episodes have been hitting that pretty hard with his creepy grabby stuff with Skylar and Jesse.
Posted: Jul 26, 2012 3:07 pm

Omar was a Robin Hood figure, IMO. I've yet to really get that from anyone in Breaking Bad.
Posted: Jul 26, 2012 6:38 pm

If anyone's still looking to watch season 4, it's on Netflix now.
Posted: Aug 20, 2012 9:45 pm

lydia is the worst.
Posted: Aug 20, 2012 10:38 pm

Hurting without a baddie to fight against. Miss ya, Gus!

Walt sucks.

Last episode was funniest in a while, though.
Posted: Aug 20, 2012 10:56 pm

agreed about the problem with no antagonist. don't think there's gonna be one though. walt is now the baddie.

dinner time was fun time

I am amazed at all the internet dudes that still think Skylar is a terrible harpy. Walt is by far the worst of them all.

i thought the train heist episode was kinda jump the shark-y.

i have no problem suspending disbelief for the sake of entertainment but that episode was too much.

^^^^^

definitely

I think you answered your own question. Walt is the antagonist. All the shit flows downhill from him.

I'm curious as to why they decided to present this season as an extended flashback.
Posted: Aug 21, 2012 1:46 pm

well Walt has always been the antagonist, it's just he had a foil before and it's only now that they are allowing him to take that position over completely and not have any of his sympathetic qualities anymore
Posted: Aug 21, 2012 3:56 pm

I loved the last two episodes. I dug the heist. A lot. I love heist movies. Now, I'm waiting for the double-cross!
Posted: Aug 21, 2012 4:00 pm

Now, I'm waiting for the double-cross!

jesse?
mike?
skylar?
matt damon looking dude?

it's gonna be one of those, if not more.

i have a feeling hank knows more about walt then he lets on & i wouldn't be surprised if he knows full well that picture frame is bugged.

I highly doubt that. The Hank/Walt confrontation has to happen eventually.

Walt is gonna kill Skylar. She's too risky to keep around.
Posted: Aug 22, 2012 12:14 am

a lot of stuff on the show I don't have a problem believing, but the fact that walt could walk around in public with that fuckin' hat and not get his ass beaten is pretty fucking far fetched...that heisenberg guy looks like a pussy....

Whatever these guys' sources have been, they've been pretty accurate so far:
