you guys can call dibs all you want, i'm a greedy capitalist. it's gonna go to the highest bidder :)
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 8:32 pm

AWESOME!!!! Before selling them, you need to do an art opening with them somewhere and take lots of pictures!!!
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 8:34 pm

damn, i'm gonna have to start selling these individually. how much would one charge for a craft? i mean, these things take months to make, given my obsession to detail, so it's got to be worth the amount of time i put in. but then, it is just a craft so i can't charge what i would for a painting. dcr says $25-50 but i'm lazy and say that's not worth my time. hmm.
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 8:39 pm

It's not just a craft. You're making satirical art there. Charge more.
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 8:46 pm

so, what, we talking in the hundreds? are there humans out there who in their right mind would pay like two hundred bucks for rapper needlework? i guess i would if i weren't making them.
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 9:09 pm

i can't think of the name but if you pick up a juxtapoz magazine they usually have an ad towards the back for someone who does similar stuff, much more than $25.

also, maybe someone from chicago would remember the bartender from the rainbo that did this kind of stuff, kenny(?)
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 9:11 pm

yeah, i knew i wasn't the first. it's nothing groundbreaking or anything, i just love rap. and cross-stitching.
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 9:13 pm

i meant to look at that to see what the prices are
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 10:05 pm

you need to do an art opening
yeah. thats what i said too
Posted: Dec 13, 2007 10:17 pm

This person charges $65 - $75 for portraits, based on hours spent, as well as "on the number of stitches (8500), number of colors in the palette (6), as well as the cost of materials. Shipping not included."

And, there are a BUNCH of completed listings on ebay for portraits of the pope and other complex scenes that sold for $75 - $100.

I think you should have an art show, take REALLY good photos of the pieces, sell the originals for $75 - $100 and make a book/posters of the rest of the pieces and sell it/them for cheaps to friends.

Actually, that's a really good idea.

How about one of Joe Smith?
she would have to go with the other joe smith paintings we've seen lately and make it look uncannily like you. how this keeps happening i will never know
Posted: Dec 18, 2007 10:11 pm

yeah, see i have about ten times the number of stitches that chick has and four times as many colors. but maybe i'll start out around $100.

Every drug store in town offers to convert your favorite photos into sure-to-be-cherished throw rugs/blankets. All the ones on the wall look like shit, but it could be because they started with shitty photos of ugly kids. This is the first one that came up on google.

Needlepoint could be cool, though.

Mostly unrelated, but a couple years ago in some stoopid artsy zine I read about some artist who painted gangsta rappers into baroque-style religious poses. The dude was especially obsessed with tupac. For some performance art shit, he got tupac's AK47 tattoo, and fakes of all pac's other tattoos. Then the black guy from mtv interviewed him (the artist) and really tore him a new one, telling the guy "I knew tupac and he would've hated what you're doing here" and shit like that.

Motto: do whatever you want, but don't expect validation from the black guy on mtv.

not being validated by MTV may be good
