"Your Song" by Elton John. It's not a song; it's a set of instructions as to how you should react to a song. It's a fraud. "I hope you don't mind/That I put down in words/How wonderful life is/While you're in the world." Except that you didn't actually do that, did you? You just invited me to imagine what it would have been like if you had written a song for me.

"I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner. Another total fraud. He spends the whole damn song asking what love is, and asking me to show him. Setting aside how creepy that is, he exposes the fraud he's been trying to perpetrate at the end. As the New Jersey Mass Choir is swelling with emotion and the band tries to break a sweat, Mick Jones "spontaneously" belts out "Love is a feeling you feel inside," which just proves that he's been lying. He knows what love is--a feeling you feel inside--and he has known all along. He doesn't want to know what love is. He wants a blow job.

"Running Against the Wind" by Bob Segar. It was tough to pick just one Seager song, so consider it a stand-in for everything else he ever did. "Turn the Page" was a close second.

"Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin. Oh look, it's a fable! How quaint.

Also, I like the Police, and Station to Station is worth it for "TVC 15" alone.

That album (Back In the USA) is hard for me to listen to due to the craptastic Jon Landau production. Wonder what "American Ruse" would've sounded like with actual bass on it.
Posted: Sep 21, 2007 5:12 pm

I'm not gonna get into a MC5 debate. A long time ago I kept seeing the name MC5 pop up in interviews claiming this band to be some must-hear essential shit. One day I found a cassette of Back In The USA, bought it, and nearly puked.

Time went by and somebody let me hear Kick Out The Jams and I was like, ok this is cool I suppose. One version had the word "motherfucker" and the other one didnt... and I suppose it would be cool to own that and I can see where it would be ground-breaking for 1969(or whenever). But it didnt change my life or anything.

But that has nothing to do with "Highschool-high-high-high". I just can't picture anybody going to band practice saying "hey fellas, I just wrote this bad ass song about kids shakin booty and your part is 'highschooool' and that's when I go 'sisk boom bop'. I dunno. moving on.

"That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd

One of those songs that somehow snuck on the radio when it came out initially, and has now become a permanent part of the classic rock format forever. It's doesn't rock, it's kinda pathetic, it's got nothing. Does anyone like this song?

"Dime a Dance Romance" (written/sung by Boz Scaggs, no less) is TUFF. If you're gonna rip off "Jumpin Jack Flash" that's the way to do it.

Hell, I even like "Enter Maurice," off Recall the Beginning. (One of the funniest spoken bits ever - "Honey I don't know why you won't make me no apple pie. . .Ever since you left it's been STARVATION, mama!") But I never did cotton much to his 70s hits.

One song I've recently heard for the first time in ages is Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth". That is a steaming pile of a song. And the production they used to make her sound like she's singing in key just made it worse.

"Spinning Wheel" by Blood Sweat and Tears

The genesis of the much-lamented Eddie Vedder "singing" style.

Every Canadian radio commercial during the 70's HAD to have that B,S, & T sound (David Clayton-Thomas was a canuck).
It must explain the unfortunate existence of Nickelback.

Besides, "Spinning Wheel" is an important prop in the best Larry Sanders Show episode of all time (Hank Goes Vegas).

The mere fact that AC/DC and MC5 are mentioned in a thread with this title once again shows that this board is mostly frequented by crazy people. Pearl Jam, U2, Billy Joel are more like it. What I really despise though is Dire Straits. That song "Sultans of Swing" might be my most hated, it definitely is in the bottom 5...

"What's Going On" 4 Non Blondes

The first time I ever heard this song I was doing a bunch of crystal meth at a firefighter's party in my home town. Somebody there had bought the album and they kept playing that song over and over and by the end of the night all the girls and a few of the guys were singing along with it at the top of their lungs.

True story.

"Hungry Heart" Springsteen

oh, he's got worse ones on that album.... "I'm A Rocker" comes to mind as the worst, crappiest, most hated song on that album, The River

Damn yall took a lot of the worst songs I would pick but I got some others

Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana-what a bunch of fucking noise, they would get my vote as the worst band ever. Wearing dirty clothes and whining about how bad the world is is not punk!!!!!

My Ding A Ling by Chuck Berry-Whats depressing about this horrible song is that it was his only number one. Lets see Chuck Berry has served jail time for crimes no white man would ever go to jail for and he has been ripped off by greedy promoters and his biggest injustice is this song.

Also anything by the Stooges. Iggy Pop just annoys me, like nails on a chalkboard.

When I took my daughter to see Chuck Berry for her first concert the only song he played all the way through was My Ding A Ling. All the Bakers in the audience (read: fat stupid old guys) were singing it at the top of their lungs.

Oh another song that annoys the hell out of me:

The Fabulous Thunderbirds version of Sam & Dave's "Wrap It Up"
yuuuucccccckkkkkkk

I read somewhere that white musicians show not cover Motown or Stax records, whoever said that must have had those bozos in mind.

um, you and the person you're quoting know it was a white owned company (in the beginning) with a half white house band, right?

ARTIST: REO Speedwagon
TITLE: Take It on the Run
Lyrics and Chords

Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from another you been messin' around
They say you got a boy friend
You're out late every weekend
They're talkin' about you and it's bringin' me down

/ G - / C - / D DC G Dsus4D / :

But I know the neighborhood
And talk is cheap when the story is good
And the tales grow taller on down the line
But I'm telling you, babe
That I don't think it's true, babe
And even if it is keep this in mind

... / D DC G G /

{Refrain}
You take it on the run baby
If that's the way you want it baby
Then I don't want you around
I don't believe it
Not for a minute
You're under the gun so you take it on the run

/ Em - / C - / D - G - / Em - / C - / Am - - D /

You're thinking up your white lies
You're putting on your bedroom eyes
You say you're coming home but you won't say when
But I can feel it coming
If you leave tonight keep running
And you need never look back again

{Refrain twice}

Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from another you been messin' around

One song I've recently heard for the first time in ages is Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth".

I came across this picture of Belinda in Playboy and decided she could make all the craptastic music she wants!

The Fabulous Thunderbirds version of Sam & Dave's "Wrap It Up"

the germans have a "side project" we call tequila fandango where we do hawaiian print/camel toe blues (including "wrap it up" in the thunderbirds style) and classic rock radio hits. we will play your party.

Yes, and also a vote for:
We Built This City

I coulda just about killed myself for watching the Simpsons episode with that song featured last sunday. Even after enjoying the HELL outta the Family Guy Star Wars episode, "We Built this City" was STILL stuck in my head. Had to go to sleep with the shit in my head.

You crazy. Lightning was total ewwww...but that St. Louis dude is a bad ass. There were lots of soccer moms with fake tits in skimpy garb all over the place at that game--I had never been to an NHL game before. If you wanna pick up on girls with blonde hair and fake boobs, this is the place. I have never seen so many women that were not lesbians at a sporting event.

James Taylor's Copperline has been in my head all morning -it's the musical equivalent of a douche commercial, albeit a douche commercial with sour mash moonshine, but a douche commercial none-the-less.

take it on the run is awesome!

I knew you sucked because of your Thin Lizzy Love, but this is the end. Get rid of your cape. You don't deserve it anymore.

party all the time - eddie murphy

I LOVE this song!

My most hated song (that I can think of at this moment) is Van Halen\'s cover of You Really Got Me. Painful. Actually, pretty much any VH makes me want to barf.

I was stuck in traffic in midtown Manhattan once and Eddie Murphy was in the car next to us for like a half an hour. I kept looking at him and he kept looking away.

Man, I had dinner with the lady @ the Belmont Grille night before last. The soundtrack in there is so 80's, and every song is deliberate.

The bartender has unique taste... Tres unique!

Paul McCartney's shitting Xmas song

That fuckin' Blues Traveler song that was at the end of Kingpin. I hope that fat fuck chokes on his harmonica. I hate that fuckin' shit.

OH, and as if the Police's original doesn't suck enough, have y'all ever heard Shawn Colvin sing "every little thing she does is magic"? Extra puke points to the thought that she probably recorded it for her kid.

He's really down
And he's no clown
He has the finest penthouse I've ever seen in town
And he's cute
In his mohair suit
And he keeps his pockets full of spending loot
Ooo whee, say you ought to come and see
His dueling scar
And brand new car
