Goner Message Board / ???? / White Stripes cancel all 2007 tour dates
Posted: Sep 18, 2007 4:49 pm

Fans are seeing red....and white.

DETROIT, Michigan (AP) -- The White Stripes have canceled all remaining tour dates through the end of the year, including fall dates in Britain.

"They thank you for your understanding and well wishes," said a posting on the duo's Web site.

Singer-guitarist Jack White and drummer Meg White had previously canceled their September shows, saying "Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time."

Spokeswoman Chloe Walsh, in an e-mail Tuesday to The Associated Press, said she had no further comment on the tour cancellation and White's illness.

Ticket holders can get refunds at the point of purchase, the Web site said, except for the Austin City Limits Festival, which is nonrefundable because it is a festival. E-mail to a friend

Austin City Limits Festival

ACL was last weekend -- so this story hit the local news last week.
As if it were Bob Dylan canceling or something.

The horror.

If only she'd take that $1,000,000 offer! That might make her less anxious.

Hollywood is full of pressure.

Well, a certain gentleman who is currently trying to sell his well-known record label and refers to himself as an "anti-mogul" (who might be in a position to know) posted the following on his myspace blog:

did you hear the one about the trendy pop duo who received such a poor response on the sale of tickets for their mega stadium shows that they had to cancel all 18 dates and cited anxiety as the reason ?? i thought i'd never stop laughing !! be still my heart . . .
Posted: Sep 18, 2007 7:07 pm

Did they have to draw straws for who had the "anxiety problems"?
Posted: Sep 18, 2007 7:25 pm

For some reason I don't think they have problems selling tickets.
Posted: Sep 18, 2007 7:40 pm

it's stressful doing this:
Posted: Sep 18, 2007 8:41 pm

I read that both of the Chicago-area shows they canceled were sold out, as were several of the British shows.

Ten Things That Probably Stressed Out Meg White

1. The cleaners keep washing her whites with her blacks and reds.

2. Difficulty of remembering drum part to "Seven Nation Army."

3. The emotional scarring of having accidentally married her brother.

4. Exhausted from constantly having to talk Jack out of regrowing his mustache.

5. Kanye West not winning a single award at the VMAs seriously, what was that?!

6. Secretly wants to wear orange, just once.

7. Jack's insistence on recording the next White Stripes album with just a megaphone and a wax cylinder.

8. Upset about Vulture's review of the band's MSG show. Whoops!

9. Wants to try one of her songs for a change.

10. Is actually a great drummer; sick of holding self back to fit Jack's idea of primitivism.

I wanted to like them. I really did. But I didn't. I'm sure they're very nice people though.

11. realized they aren't relevant and are car commercial music.

I have never liked Chan Marshall more than I have when I started seeing Little Chan on an iPod Nano screen and singing that little Sesame Street-esque song. Sounds good and I mean it, Chan...for like 1 minute 30.

It's not her!!!
I don't think it's her. I really thought it was her, but then I looked up the YouTube thing of that song because I couldn't get it out of my head. Course, I watch a lot of TV, and they play it about fifty thousand times a day.

It's a song called 1234 by "Feist". And when you look at her she doesn't really look like her.

I really like that video. Yeah, I'm a pop song whore. Oh well.
Thanks for bringing this up, saispas. I wanted to, but didn't want to look like a douche.

i don't know who the hell it is, but i love that song

wait is this the chick that supposedly got signed because of all her youtube plays but had really been signed for two years?
Posted: Sep 19, 2007 2:34 am

man, I've been watching this off and on all night, and I damned love it. Great song, absolutely brilliantly choreographed video.

Her name appears to be Leslie Feist, and it looks like she's put out several records. The youtube hits on this video are more than a million.

Thankfully that's not her, it's Feist.

One of Broken Social Scene's rotating cast; she put out her third (?) solo record this year and it's great. Although her songs are featured in every other commercial on tv.

That video was shot in one take.

shit, that catpower footage was great. confident, happy. very cool.

Nah, that is someone else.

Whew! I still don't have to like any Cat Power since 1999. It is like a record. I heard some other Feist thing and thought it was crazy boring but that 1,2,3,4 song is cattttttttchy. I'd likely not like it for the entire length of the song but it is way cute in the commercial.

Chan Marshall just does not do it for me, esp. together, medicated, Hollywood Chan doing the Ashlee Simpson jig.

Lied. I liked the whole thing. When I first heard it I thought it was Bjork. The whole vid is sorta Spike Jonzian too.

I remember her having a crush on A Trout

well that shows she's smart , then, too!

hey, maybe that haircut is magical after all. this clip of feist is also cool and proves she she can play live:

I'm diggin' it. That video is cool too.
Posted: Sep 19, 2007 2:42 pm

Yeah, got a soft spot for that song--arrangement and all. The haircut and some of the phrasings are Chan's, but I know about 25 other femme singer-songwriters who have been around as long as Catpower, didn't get famous and all have that similar sound...so Copywright This.

Chan's got plenty of dough from DeBeers and wherever else and maybe she'll make another LP I will dig one of these days.

I can't believe people are talking about fucking Broken Social Scene on the Goner board. Next thing you know, they'll be a thread about Hidden Cameras (though to their credit, one of the dudes plays drums for Brutal Knights now) and New Pornographers.

Fiest was also the singer in a really, really bad Calgary grunge band called Placebo back in the day. Like, Greenapplequickstep bad.

I like that new video, though.

Totally fake. The Meg in the video smiles and reveals semi-white teeth. The real Meg's teeth are an orange/green color.

Just read an interview with Mr White, where he rails against "cool hipster garage rock stuff", saying "I couldn't take anymore of that... all the cynics, hipsters, bloggers, internet critics, independent punk rock kids and all that crap. they aren't going to be there next year. They're only loving music for the identity it gives them."

Oops...
Posted: Oct 5, 2007 5:15 pm

And there's more: "You do all this work building up a relationship with an audience and then these people just walk away, and it's for shallow reasons too. They can't like you any more because the person who lives next door to them likes you, so now they have to like someone more obscure to keep their identity going. That shit just gets old. I thought it was supposed to be about the music, and I was fooling myself for a long time over that."

Erm...

I have admit to a developing respect for JW. When I saw them open for the Stooges I was appalled at the lameness. In fact, I even said I couldn't believe somebody would stand on the same stage the Stooges were going to stand on and play that crap.

But at least the guy holds his ground. I think he means it.

That cover of "Conquest" cracks me up, but I don't think I'd like to own it...

the problem is I hate Led Zep
