"Hey Robbie, this is Ray. They found Jim dead this morning"

Fast forward a few weeks later in a band meeting.

Ray sais " Hey guys, we rocked before Jim and we can rock after him. We don't need him to be successful."

THAT'S the best Doors line ever.

I don't know the exact quote, but my favorite would have to be whenever they said something to the effect of "we're breaking up and not putting out records anymore."

Blood in the streets in the town of New Haven
Blood stains the roofs and the palm trees of Venice
Blood in my love in the terrible summer
Bloody red sun of fantastic L.A.

line? did someone say "line?"

don't know about the rest, but this poem is pretty fuckin good to me:

It was the greatest night of my life
Although I still had not found a wife
I had my friends right there beside me
Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding
Ghosts crown the young child's fragile eggshell mind
We scaled the wall
We tripped thru the graveyard
Ancient shapes were all around us
No music but the wet grass felt fresh beside the fog
Two made love in a silent spot
one chased a rabbit into the dark
A girl got drunk & made the dead
And I gave empty sermons to my head
Cemetery cool & quiet
Hate to leave
your sacred lay
Dread the milky coming of the day

first heard it on some weird soundcheck outtakes cd called alive she cried. then found it in a book of his poetry. most of that poetry was completely useless but i can't get this one out of my head years later.

p.s. he takes the fragile out in one of his readings and it is the only edit that needs to be made to my mind.

"we're breaking up and not putting out records anymore."

that just about says it all.
seriously, the Doors were like, the Nickel Back of the day, but worse. And that says a lot, seeing as how Nickel Back is Canadian.

That's about the most cliche statement I've heard in a while...You forgot to mention something about creed...

Morrison was the first LA punk. First guy to play with his dick and piss and spit and tell the crowd to fuck off and start riots.

Nickel Back of the day, but worse.

Nickel back is definitely known for starting riots.

Very true. PLUS, musical geniuses are allowed to get strung out and accidentally starve themselves to death, but getting fat?? Nah, not in this universe, bro.

I have no problem with Ray Manzarek. He was pretty cool. I guess my problem is just with Jim Morrison. He was a joke. A bad "poet" who was lifted to lofty heights by retards. So dumb, he bought into his own bullshit. I've always thought he was just a giant cliché. It's easy to play with your dick and make an ass of yourself when you're so fucked you can't even remember your own name. Maybe Nickel Back was a bad analogy. How about.... hmmm... Papa Roach?

ever see a a 9 y/o kid ridin a bike with his hair all neatly spiked up and wearing a ramones shirt and a pokemon backpack and white adidas shell toes? What's the difference?

Get over it! Jimbo was something not for everyone but, definitely made a strong impact on the punk rockers and musicains who came after him.

Guess you weren't a fan of the early/sloppy drunk and pissn black lips.
Posted: Mar 6, 2007 2:12 am

the black lips and jim morrison are a ridiculous comparison.

my dad was a huge fan, has all the LPS videos, live at hollywood bowl etc.

BORING!

he even has the early B&W footage where morrison's not even facing the audience, unlike the movie however he doesnt turn around at the end and wow the crowd, he just bores the shit outta em. standing with his back tto the crowd, wow the guy really doesnt care, eh? who gives a shit? their music was almost all boring self indulgent shitty and lacking in hooks.

Too many long afterschool hours holed up with drummer bf who INSISTED that I listen to him "just one more time."
