Is there anything to do there?

Me the Millionaire and his kids are headed your way around March 10. (Stopping in Memphis on one end of the trip or other) Any places we must see? Anything goner-iffic close by? Can't wait to see you and thaw out.

Love, Windy

My parents live there, Orange Beach actually. I know they've been doing alot of construction the past couple of years at the toll bridge that goes from highway 59 to Canal road. Suppose to be waterpark type thing there. But Gulf Shores/Orange Beach is a family vacation spot. As far as bars, you'll see alot of the locals, and older men and ladies hanging out. They are really bad on DUIs there. The mayor's kid was killed years ago and they have really gotten bad with nailing people with DUIs. I would suggest checking out Flora-Bama if its still there, saw Kevin Kinney at Live Bait once.

A friend that was working at LuLu's saw River City Tanlines play there. He said it was sort of impromptu sort of thing, but families were turning their heads, and cupping there kid's ears, and asking for the manager.. Asking what kind of music this was.. The way he told the story it was funny..

Ahhhhhhhhh....Gulf Shores!

If I do recall correctly my parents used to vacation there when I was very young. Such a nice place this "gulf shores". Could use some sprusing up tho...
I'll have my ne PA get on it immediately! I'm thinking of starting a new theme bar called "Sex on the City EXTREME BEACH!" How awesome is that! There will be pictures from the award winning HBO show that I stared in (mostly me of course) and maybe an annual velvet rope vip only apperance by yours truly! No locals of course. We all know how they like to leach off the local barmaids for for free Sarah Jessica Parker Apple Martini's tm. and the rest of it. Hussies. Anyways...Have fun !

March 9th hopefully Pink Reason, Psychedellic Horseshit & Hibachi Stranglers are doing a house show in Mobile. Its about 2 hours west of Gulf Shores. Drive a little farther east and the beaches get a lot nicer.
Lots of Antique stores on HWY 59. Yeah I was at Lu Lu's that day but left before the Tanlines played. Pretty scary. If you like Jimmy Buffet Lu Lu's your place.

Windy, my folks live there. take the kids to the muscle car museum, to the genius miniature golf course (all tikis and dinosaurs) or the waterpark, plus the beach is beautiful and free. there's also a giant outlet mall if you wanna do some shopping, cool nature trails (kids can see gators, all kinds of prehistoric-looking birds, etc), the battleships in mobile, and this new development that's called the pier or something that is an amusement park with a ferris wheel etc. definitely grab a bite at mikey's, which has good po boys and great catfish.

We're staying here. Apparently there is a live-in butler that's a dog (scroll all the way down in that link). I can't wait.

In 1986,my buddy Vince Scary and myself were bored in Gulfport and drove to Gulf Shores to party w/our friends at a Skate Jam goin' on there that weekend. We drank about a case of beer between us while blastin' down I-10. We got into Gulf Shores around 1AM and they had the streets blocked off for the Jam (guess it was a big deal),and in our drunken stupor Vince managed to drive thru a barricade right in front of a cop car! Needless to say we were pulled over and he got a DUI. Instead of hauling me off to jail too they decided to give me the responbility of driving the car! I imagine this was to prbably bust me for a DUI to but unfortunately for the pigs i can't drive a stick,so i walked around GS in a drunken haze until i found the hotel where our friends were staying and got one of them to drive the car to their hotel.

The next day during the Skate Jam i was forcibly escorted off the premesis by local police who only said "we had complaints" as they physically removed my spiky leather jacket Chemo Cut sportin' ass from the event. I haven't looked back since.

But PrepX,Gulf Shores is only,like,30 minutes away from Mobile, not 2 Hours! Pensacola's only an hour away from Mobile if that.

for a year I drove every day back n forth from Mobile to Gulfshores doing hurricane demolition and restoration after Ivan. Average time was somewhere between 1.5 and 2hrs depending on traffic. About 3 hours a day in traffic. Theres speed traps all the way down HWY 59. Who knows you may get lucky but the cops around there look for any excuse to fuck with ya. They don't have problems making stuff up either.

I think it would be 45 minutes to an hour tops with traffic. If you take the backroads up 98 with no traffic I'd say you could be there in 30 minutes, like up through Daphne and hit I-10, you're right there at the causeway. I worked down there for 3 months in the summer of 2004 in Orange Beach. It was cool cuz I dried out for 3 months.

Hey Andria - what's the best way to get there from Memphis? Do I seem to remember some crazy route involving NOLA?

We're coming in town this weekend and are heading to GS from there.
