Goner Message Board / ???? / help name my bar
Posted: Feb 8, 2007 1:15 am
So I recently started booking bands in a bar with a friend. It's a little bar in a cool part of town with almost no turnover and the owner let us have the weekends. My friend came up with the name Exile on Smith St. Good bands are playing, lots of people are coming along, it's been going really great. Then he started throwing tantrums all the time and left. He registered the business name, so we've gotta come up with a new one. Any ideas?

I thought it was a great name, Rigid.
I was meant to be there last Saturday too, but got caught up on the other side of town. Anyway, who is the 'friend', and why won't he let you keep using it?

It is a great name. He's just childish. I've known him for about 15 years, it's the same shit keeps happening again and again. I knew it would happen but I wanted to book a bar more than work in a kitchen, so I gave it a shot anyway. Like I said it's been going really well, we're doing Thursdays and Sundays after six weeks.

The owner didn't much like my suggesting The Slipper Inn.

Dave Thomas was hassling me to come to a trivia night a couple of weeks back, he said it was good- is that still on?

Please don't get as cutesy as Lambs Go Bar...

That'll show him.

The trivia is run by a mate from Sydney, so it's on whenever he comes down. Next one is Thursday 22/3. The guy is a walking disgrace, it's fucking hilarous.

We used to have a Stagger Inn here. It was the greatest. The owner slept in the kitchen.

On the marquee out front, you can put up the catch phrase "We put the man in manhole."

I went there last night- place don't NEED a name, it's just a hot happy happening. It's huge, too.
And on the way home I made the taxi stop at the Burger King drive-thru round the corner. All good.

Did you come up with a new name for it yet?
Can't see anything in the Beat or Inpress listings.

I once worked at a bar called "the No Blacks Cat"

It was awesome, cuz we already had a black dude working there, so if any more tried to come in, we'd just point to the "s" on the sign.
