anbody know anything about a group he produced called The Hornets on the VIP label? It's a bad Beatles imitation, but strange for motown and for andre. I had never heard of it. I don't know how many records he produced for motown.

Was VIP a Motown subsidiary?
Posted: Dec 13, 2006 7:34 pm

Yeah. It's actually V.I.P. to be exact. i know andre was a staff producer for a short time.

Some fellas look at the eyes
Some fellas look at the nose
Some fellas look at the size
Some fellas look at the clothes
I don't care if her eyes are red
I don't care if her nose is long
I don't care if she's underfed
I don't care if her clothes are worn
First I look at the purse!
Some fellas like the smiles they wear
Some fellas like the legs that's all
Some fellas like the style of their hair
Want their waist to be small.
I don't care if their legs are thin
I don't care if their teeth are big
I don't care if their hair's a wig
Why waste time lookin' at the waistline?
First I look at the purse!
A woman can be fat as can be,
kisses sweet as honey
But that don't mean a thing to me
If you ain't got no money
If the purse is fat....that's where it's at.
Some fellas like the way they walk
The way they swing and sway
Some fellas like the way they talk
Dig the things they say.
I don't care if they wobble like a...
or talk with a lisp
I still think I'm a good lover
if the dollar bills are crisp
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
I don't care if you got yourself a wrap
all I want is your pretty green cash
Bought me a suit, bought me a car
Want me to look like a hollywood star
Money, (Money!) I want money (Money!)
Baby, ain't no "why", baby (Money!)
I need money!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!

YEAH! -that album is an instant party starter. In fact, I set it aside this morning and intend to be spinning it tonight, probably around 11:00 PM and fully expect dancing on the bar...

I need the Countours LP. BAD. Let a couple slide through my fingers this year. "Ed" snagged one of 'em.
Posted: Dec 13, 2006 11:31 pm

doesn't norton have the reish???
Posted: Dec 14, 2006 12:12 am

I had no idea what a monster that Contours album was until a friend played it for me two nights ago. Whole Lotta Woman kills.

I have an 80's pressing of that LP. You must have one of those, right? I'd trade it if it wasn;'t totally bad ass.

I don't care if they wobble like a...
That line is supposed to be "I don't care if they waddle like a duck or talk with a lisp." Co-written by Smokey Robinson!

i know of a couple different places here in indiana you can get it, and it is in fact the jam, unlike that fucking "dreamgirls" movie which looks bad.

I got the Contours first LP for Motown, the original 1962 on the Gordy label and its a killer. Berry Gordy should have kept his dick out of Diana Ross and pushed these guys. I do know that Andre Williams recorded a couple of singles for Motown, and are on that first Motown singles box.

I'm wondering what song- Blowfly- Clarence Reid produced for KC & the Sunshine Band-anybody know? Andybody tell?

Just got that Contours LP offa EBay (80's repro) - but MAN it it fuckin' GREAT! "First I Look at the Purse"!!
Posted: Jan 6, 2007 4:15 pm

Mine is the 80's repro too. Sounds fantastic, but I'd love a mono copy. "First I Look" 45 is pretty inexpensive but "Whole Lotta Woman" is not. Have you ever heard the freakbeat-ish cover of "First I Look" by The Gass Co.? It RULES!!!

Yeah that 80's version is a comp but its still good. The Contours did not get the credit they deserved
Posted: Jan 7, 2007 7:47 pm

Yeah that 80's version is a comp

no, it's a reissue of the album.
Posted: Jan 7, 2007 7:48 pm

i think (questioning myself).
Posted: Jan 7, 2007 11:44 pm

it is.

The Contours were fucking brilliant, great rocking stuff.

no its a comp. The 80's Contours record has "First I Look at The Purse" that wasnt on the original cause the orignal LP came out in 1962. I got the original and I can get a track list if you like
Posted: Jan 8, 2007 6:04 pm

So they added one song? That doesn't make it a comp, per se.
Posted: Jan 8, 2007 6:11 pm

I can get a track list if you like

HOLY CRAP!
now I feel gypped!
dammit - time to start saving for the original....
Posted: Jan 10, 2007 6:38 pm

Yeah, it IS a comp! Well, there's a few songs that cross over anyway. How dare they keep the OG cover!
Posted: Jan 10, 2007 6:45 pm

no shit!
DAMMIT!!
Posted: Jan 10, 2007 7:32 pm

Norton might still have the repro of the original LP..

I have both of these records, they are different so there is definitely a reish of the OG, unless Norton is selling originals for $9!!

The original version has more good songs, but is missing "first I look at the purse".

Did anyone ever hear the Nashville Pussy version of it? Possibly their only good song...

The 80's Contours record has "First I Look at The Purse" that wasnt on the original cause the orignal LP came out in 1962.

This sentence still doesn't make any sense. There's information missing from it (like maybe the release year of said single). Just sayin'.

Norton might still have the repro of the original LP..

according to the Norton (print) catalog - its a repro of the actual original LP....might have to get it if we ever get outta this tax hole....
